Supply Of Sand & Cement

Hi all,

Need some advice.

My ID quoted me $750 to supply sand and cement. Is this normal? I have 2 other quotes and could not find such item. I know we need sand and cement for all the masonary work, but isn't that built into the prices for the tiling and construction of kerbs, etc?

Anyone has idea or comment on this?

Yes some IDs will put the sand/haulage/cement/etc separately, while some will build-in to other items. You just need to compare each masonary work item to know if any of the quotes are too high.

I prefer them to separate the items, so that I can take them out if I do not need and/or got cheaper lobangs. Items lumped together are always harder to bargain/negotiate.

is this sand/cement supply price the hualage price he's refering to? I'm currently searching around for haulage lobangs coz my ID charging me 1k for removal of debris.. ..ID are quite scary nowadays...

I cannot confirm with you now that if the cost includes haulage for the debris, I don't have my quotation with me now. But I don't recall my ID charging separately for haulage of any sort, the cost are included in the hacking as lump sum cost. But do let me confirm with you on this again.

Anyway if you are going to go with this ID, he is going to charge you that, you can only try to negotiate with him the price again. I don't think you can take that out of the quotation, cause it's part of the entire work scope.

Also I believe if really take it out, he most likely will move his cost somewhere else to make his profit back.

You can use your other quotation prices to help in your negotiation to show him if you are aware of the market price.

the funny part is that we are almost done with the reno..tiles done & debris no longer in the house..

he did mention before he will need to charge haulage before we signed with him..but throughout the tiling/hacking..he did not discuss with us at all..it's only now he told us that he has checked for us..it's 1k..

Thanks raincole for the advice..currently i'm still sourcing for other better offers..not easy to find one at all..

perhaps last resort will be to negotiate with him to bring dwn the price.. !!

My ID charge me $900...no choice but to go ahead with him too. Coz another contractor who is supposed to be HDB approved charge me $1,200.

did you carry out any hacking?rooms all tiles?..i found out from my cousin who is in reno business that $900-$1200 is the expected price range for now due to price of sand shoots up by 4 times..2-3 months ago, should be $600-$800. So cousin told me the price is quite reasonable already...if your $900 is quoted a few months back then it's considered higher end pricing...if it's now..very lucky for you...

My cousin also helped me to go through the quotes my ID quoted me for hacking of walls & laying of tiles..he said the prices my ID quoted me for sure did not include haulage from what he sees. So it's reasonable that i pay for the haulage.. he said usually contract will state includes all uplifting of goods/materials & removal of all debris..if didn't state so..most likely haulage must be self absorbed or ensure check with ID before signing..must also take note that the quotes ID gives really did not include haulage..

so in the end..f/h & i agreed to the 1k quote...else later sand price shoot up more then prices get worse..

plus the haulage for my area is already bidded by some contractors..so most likely noone else can step in for haulages..tt's y in the end, my cousin cannt help to find better offers for haulages due to the "monopoly" for haulage service...
