Laminated Flooring

Recommended Posts

Hi people

Has anyone lay their living room in laminated wood ?

I am thinking of doing it but have doubts as all the quotes so far are for homogenous tiles. Is there a reason why most are chosing homogenous instead of laminated ?

Appreciate any feedback.

Homogenous flooring is more expensive than laminated flooring right ?

I est the cost of doing my living room flooring in homo is $1,960 (tiles at $3 for 280 sqft).

The same for laminated flooring is only $1,063. A total savings of $896.

So it's definitely cheaper.

If you can afford it, sure.

well..a little more care is expected for laminated flooring. for homogenous...u can mop watever way u please...but for laminated flooring cannot let water seep into the floorings...if the water stay inside for too long will make the laminated flooring warp...another thing is although nowadays laminated flooring quite tough...frequent use of living room may wear it down faster then homogenous flooring...like everytime u wanna maybe drag ur furniture u gotta think twice...frequent dragging at the same spot of heavy furniture will confirm scratch one loh...

maintenence wise can go homefix or watever to buy those liquid for laminated flooring and spray on and wipe lah...quite easy...

look wise..homogenous shiny shiny glossy glossy some people think look nicer...laminated flooring all over look very warm and comfy..depends on wat u like loh...

:P

It depends on the type of laminate flooring you use, there is a wide range. For example I was quoted ~$5600 for my living dining and 3 bedroom for the Kronotex Amazone range, price is comparable or even slightly more expensive compared to homogenous tiles. And I believe Pergo is even pricier...

Of course there are cost savings involved with laminate, e.g no need to hack existing tiles if yours is a resale unit. But also slightly harder to maintain lah compared to homogenous - cannot just pour a bucket of water and scrub, need to do dry mopping.

But personally I like the more cosy feel of laminate...

Thanks for the feedback. Juz met up with one ID and ask the same question.

Was told :-

1. Might wrap in future if too much water

2. If have children or dog/cat, might urine on the laminate floor and leave a smell behind

My concern for using **** room :

1. As dining table is also there, sometimes might spill curry sauce, soup etc. Might spoil the flooring

So I guess I will stick to homogenous tiles as I have children. They will surely throw food or spill water during meal time.

Sign.. really like the comfy feeling of laminated flooring.

Hmmm i suppose as long as you don't let the liquids sit for too long they won't damage the flooring... as long as you go for the more reputable brands... Even for homogenous floors if u let the curry sit for too long the grouting will change colour also ma...

my 2 cents'w worth.

i can let u know in 5 years' time (after I've lived with my laminates for 5 years) whether they are hardy enough for day to day use haha

I use Supreme's AC5 (the better grade), there's also the cheaper AC3.

I wanted full house minus kitchen/toilets, but faced with "violent objections". hahaha. It creates the warm resort look, but they want to limit that to bedrooms only, they want to retain the cold homo tiles in the living room..

Personaly, I LOVE the feel of laminated flooring, I could have saved more back then to have them to overlay the entire house, it costs more (price of tiles, sand, cement) to hack off old tiles and install new ones.

So far no water issues yet. I wipe them with a wet mop, I'm not too sure about stains yet, so far non of us ate in bedrooms, can't really advise you on that. 8|

For supreme there are a few types, AC3/ AC5 and enginner laminated.

For engineer laminated is about the same grade as AC3. But slight better. It about the grade of AC4 from other brands.

AC5 is as lawry mention. The grade is indeed superior then AC3 and AC4. If you want to know more. i can give u mine supreme contacts to you. PM me if u want it. :o

Haha. My wife will surely kancheong like you if it happens. But for homogenous tiles, if got water, scare my kid slip and fall as floor will be slippery.

Hmmm....

Actually I haven't laid the laminates in my new place yet! Sorry if i sounded like I already have moved in... But I am set on using laminate flooring for my place. I've seen, felt, and stepped on various laminate brands while doing research.

You must go and see the Kronotex Engineered range - looks just like real wood, and patterns repeat only every 50 planks...

Hi,

Any review on Kronotex's Dynamic range? Due to the thickness, some ppl said it won't last. I am thinking is it tt bad?

I wanted to get laminated flooring for my bedrooms but dunno which range is best. Can someone advise me, pls? Any brand?

it's all about quality vs cost.

there are laminate flooring, eg, the highest end engineering wood are more expensive than tiles, or even exceeding the marble price.....
