Hi I need serious help here. Let me share some of my dream kitchen ideas for my 4rm Hougang BTO House, I love the sun, sea and the blue sky. So I'm settled with, TIFFANY BLUE BACK SPLASH / GLASS PACKBLUE SKY QUARTZ WORK TOP (CONSIDERING - NOT SURE IF IT WILL MATCH WELL WITH MY TIFFANY BLUE BACK SPLASH. I've did some researches about tiffany blue kitchen and got a lot of combination color that comes with white kitchen cabinets. Of course, the downside of having WHITE kitchen cabinets is the maintenance, cleaning (with heavy cooking like me) and also yellowish in 10-15 years down the road (not as if you gonna change your kitchen housing every 3 years right?) ... so! My question is, IS THERE ANY OTHER COLORS THAT COULD MATCH UP WITH MY TIFFANY BLUE BACK SPLASH / GLASS PACK OR BLUE SKY QUARTZ WORK TOP...OTHER THAN WHITE ? tiffany blue back splash - below blue sky quartz work top - below TIFFANY BLUE / TIFFANY GREEN BACK SPLASH

Selection of the unit was kinda fast. It only took me 1 day of viewing to decide on the flat. (I think the property agent must be thinking this client is easy earned commission). Actually the property agent was recommended by one of my colleague. I contact the agent and he arrange for flat viewing. On that particular day, he arrange for 7 unit around the area I told him I would preferred. The first 6 was really not to my liking. The last unit, it was the only one that is situated at high floor and its a corner unit. Although the unit was not in a tip top condition, it did not really bother me much cause I have already intended to do a entire overhaul of the flat before moving in. The moment I step into the house, there is just this feeling that this is the one. To cut the story short, I put up an offer to the seller on the same night and he agreed. 5 Months later I am the owner of this house. During the 5 months (1st appointment and completion date), I have been to 7 Interior Design company and to be frank, I did not know that renovation can be so costly. To hack walls, rebuild walls, change the entire unit flooring (Living, bedrooms, kitchen, toilet), rerun entire water piping, rewiring the entire house electrical wiring.

We finished our rather major renovations few months back but just found time to share some pictures. We engaged an ID but in the end, he was doing mainly the wet works (hacking, cementing, marble, tiles, electrical, plumbing etc) and playing more the role of a project co-ordinator. We engaged specialist contractors directly for many parts of the works (cabinets, kitchen, wardrobe, glass works, painting, landscape, pond etc) with my better half doing a lot of the "interior designing" herself! The result is not too bad. Learnt quite a number of things which we can share. This will also serve as a record of our renovation journey. Greetings! Wifey and I applied for a 5RM HDB @ Canberra, which is situated between Yishun and Sembawang. Canberra is a non-matured estate with growing facilities. We hope that things will get better, especially when the new Canberra MRT is operational. So let's start off with our floorplan. As ours is from a SOBF: 1) No flooring is included for living and bedrooms - No issues as we wanted a different tiles design. 2) Kitchen wall is included - We wanted an open & close concept kitchen, so this wall must go. 3) Sanitary fittings are included - After looking at the HDB sanitary fittings (toilet bowls, toilet basins, shower heads), they are acceptable and we will not be changing them to save costs. Here is a video of the "Before" reno: Defects Rectification Fortunately, the number of defects are minimal. We had minor defects. The more notable ones are; hairline cracks on wall, rusty door hinges, low water pressure at service yard. BSC took 2 weeks to do the rectifications. Before planning for renovation, I read through this thread which contains useful knowledge from other home owners. This has helped shaped my plans and is a must read for all first time home owners. https://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/19954-materials-that-u-regret-using-installing/ We wanted to make our home look bright, open and lively. We did not want our home to have a "hotel" feel. Therefore we would be going for a bright woody/scandi feel with shades of white, brown, grey. Below is an example of our moodboard, some of which were obtained from other Renotalkers here.

Hello everyone! Having seen the various blogs and excitement over home ownership and renovation, I decided to start this blog to account my own journey towards a place my wife and I would soon call 'home'. Ours is a cosy one bedroom condo unit measuring 527 sq ft or 49 sqm. Yeps, you read it right! It's small! But, with just the both of us and a little bundle of joy coming our way, it should be sufficient and easy to maintain for now! Below is the floor plan of our unit! We thank God that it's squarish and therefore easy to conceptualise in accordance to what we have in mind. The theme in mind we have is Modern English/French Classic. We didn't want it to be too Victorian or Baroque as those requires bigger spaces. Hence, we opted for a simpler touch with a mix blend of black and white as our main colors, thus invoking colonial style in mind as well. We were lucky to come across an exact same size junior suite when we stayed in Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Switzerland for our honeymoon! We immediately fell in love with the whole mood, design and layout that we decided to replicate much of what we see there here in our own home. Below are pictures of the suite: As you can see, one of the practical thing about this layout is that the TV is able to swivel from the living room to the master bedroom. The other functionality about this is that the other part of the TV is a glass mirror. Hence, it can be used both ways - as a decorative piece in the living room if you do not wish to have your guests engaged in watching the TV or use it as a dressing mirror in the bedroom. We also love the white-washed wall beadings and cornices. No false ceiling either but just a central chandelier. Simple and elegant. What we intend to do different however is to have the cornices in black just as the picture below: Will leave all of you with that for now! Next up would be furniture inspirations!

Hi Everyone, We finally collected our keys at the end of March and we hurriedly carried out all the necessary rituals (door opening & 动土) so that technically we have done what we should before Qing Ming festival. Hacking started on last Monday and we are so looking forward to completion and moving into our own place. My fiancé works in the architecture industry so he’s the brainchild of our place’s design. We will only be engaging contractors and doing all the coordination on our own. In order to get me involved and make me have a “we created this place together” feel, he asked for my inputs and we'll be doing some DIYs for our home as well. Our journey starts from here…. Floorplan: Draft design by the fiance: Original condition of the house. Good thing that it’s chui since we will hack everything away: Original condition of Living Room: Original Condition of Hallway to rooms, dining area and kitchen entrance: Original Condition of Kitchen: . Original Condition of Master Toilet: Since we are the one doing all the coordination work, the poor fiance had to do all the measurements and works himself Self measurement indications for the reno contractors: The works has started and all the floor tiles are gone by now. We are currently waiting for the rest of the permit to go thru before further demolition can be carried out. Can't wait!!!!

A beautifully designed room built around the conceptual idea of a black and white simplistic modern design which also reimburses itself in classical abstract lines. The contrast in lighting helps with bringing out the details of the room from the art pieces and interior decor material. Spotlights help bring out a gallery perspective on the elements of the room and can be seen to be a good way of completing the experience A stunning set of classical furniture flavored with artistic elements which are used to highlight the atmosphere of the room without taking too much away from the cleanliness aspect of the whole picture. Even the kitchen has an artistic feel to it that is thrown out of place with the floral-abstract wallpaper contrast and the use of a black fridge. The bunk bed is built in and non-removable with a hard thick design that matches the environment of the whole home. Opposing walls are textured or painted differently to bring out contra without much distraction from the main purity theme of the overall design. We can see here again that subtle black and white decor is the best preference to keep everything in line with the main theme of the design. Lastly, we have a slightly darker shade of wallpaper with a repeated square pattern housing abstract art and design cues from energy and nature.

Hi all! I just moved in to my new home at CCK in June and I wish to share my experience on how my renovation process went about. Before getting our keys, me and my hubby started to source for a reliable IDs and contractors in Dec 2015 Everything comes with a price tag. So we set our priority. For us we are not very particular but must be reasonable and practical. It is our 1st HDB but most importantly it should be comfortable and yet not burn a big big hole in our pocket. 1st - We draft what we looking for and what are our NEEDS and WANTS. and the hunting began. We got friends who are ID, Recommended ID/Contractor in the forum, Pic we love from the Facebook and hunt the ID company down and neighborhood ID . Our budget is around 28K for all the reno. We finally meet with 4 shortlisted ID/Contractor and some only thru email correspondence to get quotation. Most of them are package selling and to top up with the whatever you want. As you meet with more of them you can tell what to ask and go straight to the point. There are some who say this cannot that cannot yet some say everything can. For us we try to keep what HDB have already provide and just enhance to suit our need with as minimum $$ as possible. Very budget ah . We were hunting for the perfect match from Jan till Feb and during the CNY and come across this Contractor in the forum with good workmanship and layman pricing haha. We actually Message him thru Facebook and try our luck to see if he is online. We ask for a quote if any package, and an immediate reply was he only do ala cart and after 1 hr of FB messaging an appointment was fix for the NEXT DAY Not even our floor plan was given, he say he will do on the spot just bring the plan when we see him. By the way it was the 4th day of CNY which most renov company are still holidaying. We are surprise and although the review of him was not the 100% star type branded, with his response time we decided to make our way down to see him. We are his 1st customer after the CNY and YES, he is the way the forum have written, sloppy looking. Ah beng looking, direct to the point "No use do this" "don't waste $$", no smooth talking but very efficient. All his reply is reasonable and practical. We are impress when he draw free hand of what we wanted and show us some ideas and a price list was out in the same meeting *he only see our floor plan on that day. which so far no other Reno company did it. His price and another ID is almost the same but as he is a contractor and the other is an ID. Drum roll ----- we choose the contractor as he is will be more on hands and play real time we call it if any hiccup. He ask us for the time line and if can wait longer he will get an experience elderly man who will "bao ga liao" for the carpentry with great workmanship. Since we are not in a hurry we say we are fine with it as long as it is not 6 mths lar. We got the date of key collection in the morning and have our door opening event in the morning. As we invited a Feng Shui master to come on the same morning for the door opening and also to see what is the feng shui expect for the house we invited the contractor to come as well so that we no need to repeat. Don't be surprise when he sit on the floor in the house and just look around. "HE is feeling the surrounding and feel the house" hahah that's what he say when we say so dirty why sit there and stone. After the door opening which we have finish by earlier noon and ask if we can chop chop go select the colours and material and he can start the work. He say no problem and drove us back to his office that day we finish all the selection by evening. Colour/material selection is really a chore and we are really not very good at it. so we just point and choose and look at his face hahah, he jus nod or shake his head. I should say that this contractor is very passionate about his job as I ask how he earn his profit and he say he just want to be proud of his work and work as near to our budget as possible. The thing we were impressed was the workmanship especially when all the visitor come and say it is really good and with the price. All my Taobao buys was install by his sub-contractors as well some FOC and some with a token fee. We are very much satisfied that the amount was well spent and here we got our dream homeJ. We wanted to share our experiences here because we are really very satisfied with this contractor’s workmanship and reliability. We are sure that some of you will be confuse as to which IDs/contractors to choose from. It’s not a matter of whether the contractors are popular in the market, eventually, it’s the satisfaction and the workmanship that will put you to peaceful sleep. We hope that others will benefit as much as we do and if anyone is interested to engage this contractor, do let me know and I would gladly share his contact details with youJ Photos will be upload shortly of our humble residence!!!!

Hi everyone, long time lurker here deciding to give this T-blog a try in hopes that it will help time pass faster so that I can collect my keys sooner! I think I started lurking in this forum at least 1-2 years ago, reading up on people's t-blog and picking up advice here and there. I hope to get my keys in July as HDB updated that PCD is end July 14, so July please come soon! This is my floorplan. As you can see, a pretty normal 5 room layout, except that the main door faces the kitchen, which I haven't seen elsewhere before. Apparently not common? Not sure. Anyway I started researching on IDs back in the August last year because I was hoping to get keys earlier this year. But my development progress is slow. Some of the IDs I met were: 1. That ***** - Was really impressed by a fellow renotalker who used this ID, so I contacted them for a meetup. Back then I was gearing more towards the industrial look so I was really looking forward to receive their quote. In the end, they didn't get back to me. Not sure if it was because my key collection date was super far away. 2. Random IDs through the renotalk request for quote thingy which I immediately ruled out upon meeting them because they mainly did those modern contemporary style which I didn't like at all and also because of language barrier. 3. Mr Foo from Custombox - Also another ID that I was really impressed with so arranged to meet him at his place (also Mschocobanana's place). Hit it right off the bat in the first meeting so I was really keen, plus he is bilingual so I didn't have to struggle to understand him. Sent me the quote right on time as well and I found his quote reasonable. So signed with Mr Foo! Although back then I also heard of Mr K and Alan contractor, I didn't meet up with them, which on hindsight I think is a good thing because I don't think I would have the time to really check on the work and plus the recent mixed reviews. When I first started out thinking about the kind of design for my house, I was thinking of a mix of industrial and Scandinavian with more focus on industrial. However, over the past few months, I am leaning more towards Scandinavian instead now, with a touch of industrial. Hence the title of this T-blog, Our Scandinavian Home.

Will be moving into a new apartment soon and we realised that there this Scandinavian theme homes are very suitable for our 90 square metre space. Downgrading from our parents 30yo HDB to a new BTO is painful but can't escape. Would like to find some like-minded individuals to share some ideas on Space [& possibly Cost] saving ideas to achieve this look. Our Living room isn't this spacious but i think by hacking the wall we should be able to make it look more spacious. This is the look that me & my hubby instantly agree on.

Hi all, I'm in the midst of renovating my resale flat and starting on carpentry soon. Need to make some decisions regarding the internals of my carpentry works. My ID quoted coloured pvc for my wardrobe but not for my shoe cabinet or kitchen cabinet. Wondering if I should splurge on coloured pvc internals for the kitchen cabinet? I've not asked for the cost yet. My kitchen carpentry is massive. Doing a whole wall of full height cabinets (no storeroom, hence the huge storage), and top and bottom hung cabinets as well. Anyone care to let me know what you think are the pros and cons of doing colour pvc internals? Other than cost of course. Pros: 1. Hide discolouration of pvc 2. Looks good (better than white pvc) 3. Slightly thicker than white pvc? Thought I read this somewhere. Is this true? Cons: 1. Cost. Need to top up the difference, or course. 2. Anything else? Thanks!
