  1. As per of renovation we plan to seal off the unused toilet sewage (maid toilet) and re-tile it over. However the ID said as part of the BCA requirement it is not allow to re-tile it over and can only cover it with PVC cover due to safety reasons methane gas release which sounds legit but will left expose protruding cover. Hence, would like to check if this is true cause other IDs that i'm checking in said can just re-tile and cover it no issue and what would be the implications that I will face? Smelly gas release if I just re-tile?

  3. My toilet is a old toilrt with exposed copper piping My water source is not from the wall. Am i still able to install a rainfall shower like in the photo? Also i have a water-heater.
  4. Has anyone gotten their contractor to make the shower area corner shelves out of ceramic tiles or some other stone like marble? If yes, how much did it cost?
  5. Hahaa... initially I had started a community blog but then decided a T-blog here seems more fun as the useful input from people (who are more experienced than I am when it comes to home renos) is more instantaneous and that would really help to guide me along in real life as I'm battling through my crazy renovations. So... here's the story. I had initially set out wanting to DIY my bathroom renovations. I had lofty ambitions of doing it as I'm in a 'transition' period at the moment so have some free time on my hands to, err, do something with my hands. Also, my budget is(was!) very small... I was only able to afford to comfortably fork out $3k max for these renovations, which I reckoned would mostly go towards the materials and only in the case of really needing the professionals to do stuff I really knew I could not do (i.e. plumbing and waterproofing) would I use part of that small budget I had squirreled away for engaging them. I am very confident in my own dexterity and my skills; on top of that, I am also someone who never ever thinks anything is beyond learning and doing. I was adamant I neither wanted to use an ID nor a contractor, as I have done some brickworks and other cementing work before in my life. Plus, I've been spending the last few months watching Youtube videos so am now suitably qualified as an armchair contractor! However, after several heated arguments with my parents (neither of whom was forking out a single cent for this reno), I gave up and was forced to engage 'professionals' for this job. I calculated, albeit naively, it would cost me 'a bit more' than my initial budget, probably in the region of $4k, which from my extensive research was a general estimate for most bathrooms. I thought that since I simply wanted a very SIMPLE and industrial theme, it was not at all like all those expensive showy bathrooms with gold taps and other such nonsense. I mean, my name doesn't start with TT Boy was I wrong. And stupid/naive/egotistic/narcissistic to not have seen this from the start! Sure, some of you are saying "If you don't have money, why waste it on something so useless and impractical as a bathroom renovation?". I know we don't spend most of our time in the bathroom, that not everyone who comes to the house will use the upstairs bathroom and besides, here's the funnier thing-- I don't even live in the house! But. Sadly, I have always hated my family house because the design, colours and funishings are so puke-worthy fugly. Every time I use the bathroom (and I don't even go back that often! Like once every 3months??) I am reminded of how it looks worse than the kampong toilets I've been to in my lifetime. Kampong toilets are actually decent looking, even though they aren't too hygienic. Anyway my bathroom is so fugly until I cannot stand it. I don't know what Keppel was thinking when they built the place-- was the designer a 5000yr old Englishman stuck in delusions of the 17th century? It's that bad. So, anyway. The fact that I was so adamant to do this is testament to my deep hatred for the bathroom, and to the fact that I'm not doing this to 'show off' to people but instead this is a real personal issue I have with the bathroom. I want to go in and feel "Ah...such a nice, clean, modern bathroom. I feel so relaxed, happy and peaceful...", not "OMG this place is so fuglyyyyyy, this would be the perfect place to hang myself in!". Basically too much of the spaces I do use when I go back are very shamefully fugly, and such an eyesore especially when nobody bothers to take care of anything. It's bad enough that fugly is not something you can wash away with bleach... imagine fugly and years of willful neglect. So I decided to take remedial action as soon as I had saved up enough. As a result, I am now almost $8k out of pocket as the cost of this g-**** reno keeps escalating by the day. And when I say I really, really, really cannot afford it, I mean it. I'm not one of those people who always claim they're broke but in their bank accounts there's enough money to feed the entire continent of Africa for a week. As an entrepreneur, I have no savings. Zero. The first time I saw more than 2 zeroes in my bank account was when I was 29, when I got a good project that paid well enough for me to save a little rather than live from hand to mouth. And now, because of this bathroom reno, I am back to square one
  6. Hi everyone, Anyone tried any of the following? https://lefong.sg/services/thermal-imaging-and-scanning/ http://www.primaseal.com/ How was it? Effective? Worth it? Lasting?
  7. I know that the HDB guidelines state that you can only extend the bathroom by 600mm or 0.6msq, and only used as dry area. Later on, I saw a couple of floor plans that actually extended the boundary of the bathroom more than 600mm out. One person actually commented that "the HDB guideline technically means: 600mm is the distance of your wash basin's pipehole to the original bathroom boundary". Meaning to say, as long as the piping of the wash basin is within 600mm distance of the original bathroom boundary, you can build the new walls however big as you want. Can anybody confirm this? Attaching my floor plan for reference
  8. I would like to seek advise if it is possible to drill a hole for water pipe and drainage from HDB service yard to toilet. Based on our layout the best way to put the washing machine is at the right side of service yard but there is no water pipe and drainage on that side. Our solution is to drill a hole from service yard to toilet as there is water pipe and drainage just exactly on the other side of the wall. Is it possible to do in our HDB (age is more than 5 years old)? If possible, how do we proceed? Is there any restriction? Thank you very much for the kind soul who will respond to our query.

  17. Hi everybody I know almost all HDB flats have the common features that common toilet/bathroom often shares the same space as the kitchen/dining area. Instead of having the dining table in the living room, I still want to have the table in the kitchen but the thing could be quite awkward especially when you have the toilet right nearby. And it would be even more unpleasant when your Friend uses the toilet and you could hear them calling their natures. So I’m thinking of installing fake movable wall or I don’t know that you don’t even know that there is a toilet or you don’t even feel that the toilet is actually there. Any thoughts?
  18. Hi I am looking for a reliable and affordable contractor/ID to redo my kitchen cabinets and the toilet doors. Anyone has any good contact?
  19. Buying a resale 3i hdb flat and looking for proven solution on the net. As you all may already know, 3i hdb flat comes with two separate cubicles, 1 wc, 1 bathroom. which is only 1.68m in length, with the bathroom slightly wider than the wc cubicle by 1.5m Vs 1m. Most likely, I will be renting out the common room of the 3i flat. What i'm thinking is to seal up the bathroom door, and hack the wall connecting to the masterbedroom. Means now, the "attached" bathroom is only for bathing and a sink. Next,is to install a shower in the wc cubicle, which i know is pretty cramp. So that tenant(s) can use the 'common' toilet for their showering. My biggest concern is this. This maybe a show stopper for me to rent out, as tenants may feel the wc cubicle is now for 'wc' AND showering. Since HDB does not allow a second wc to be installed in the 'attached' bathroom, guess i have to make do with sharing the 'throne' with tenants. Does anyone has a better solution for this 3i bathroom? Or what's your take on this 3i wc/toilet issue?
  20. Hi! I bought my air con from MDS and the air con guy that came fixed the pipe in the main BR toilet in this manner. We are overlaying the toilet with wall tiles, so he said there are 2 choices. Choice (1): As attached in the image, the overlay of the wall tiles will meet the air con pipe, and not go under it. In this way, if the air con pipe is gone, I can see the original HDB wall tile. Choice (2): Install a white casing over the air con pipe, and the have the overlay wall tiles underneath the white casing. My main contractor, who is doing the overlay of the toilet, said it might look ugly. And I believe he hasn't done it before. We are also not sure whether he would do a good job since he hasn't done it before. Anyone went for this approach of using the overlay of wall tiles to slightly over up the sight of the air con pipe?
  21. Hi All.. Need your sincere advise as currently I'm doing toilet reno works since 3 weeks ago but I have 3 main problems now and conractor is doing a very bad job: 1. Floor tiling not have enough gradient that water is ponding in dry area as attached picture. My contractor claim my tile too big. My toilet dimension is 1.5 (width)x 1.9 (length) x 2.3m (height) and my floor tile size is 30cm x 60cm. Any advice to rectify this water ponding issue? Any recommendation for other contractor? 2. My door frame was damaged. I'm just aware today that my door frame was chiseled so it can closed properly. I have no issued before the renovation work commenced. Anyone recommend to fix this? 3. Toilet window not properly installed. Sideway protuding by 3mm. Whats the risk to reinstall or readjust the window? Will this damage the wall tile ? I learned my lesson the hard way . This contractor just did such a bad job and this small toilet cost me above average cost. The painting job is so ridiculously bad (attached pic) I have paid 65% and Im thinking to engage another party using the remaining 35% . Thanks for all your advices.
