  1. Dear homeowners and IDs, be careful not to hire or work with this company Platinum Builders & Consultancy. They have engaged our services for various jobs (countertops), paid the deposit but did not pay up the balance of $3,000 until now (July and August invoices). Our staff went down to their office and they are no longer there. We heard from the main contractor that quite a few parties also went down to their office but not able to recover their debts. They were located at Kaki Bukit previously, but recently saw on Google that they have moved to Whampoa.

  4. Message was forwarded by someone. ----------------- New scam in sg.. This scam is actually very cleverly worked out that you will not suspect of anything wrong: The following is an account of the incident. 《Wednesday a week ago, I had a phone call from someone saying that he was from a company called: "Express Couriers," He asked if I was going to be home because there was a package for me that required a signature . The caller said that the delivery would arrive at my home in roughly an hour. Sure enough, about an hour later, a uniformed delivery man turned up with a parcel and a bottle of wine. I was very surprised since there was no special occasion, and I certainly didn't expect anything like it. Intrigued, I inquired as to who the sender was. The courier replied, "I don't know, I'm only delivering the package." Apparently, he said the sender would want to give you a surprise and a card would be sent separately... , it happened that my birthday was on the way also, so we thought could be from a distant friend. There was also a consignment note with the gift. He then went on to explain that because the gift contained alcohol, there was a $7.50 "delivery/ verification charge," providing proof that he had actually delivered the package to an adult (of legal drinking age), and not just left it on the doorstep where it could be stolen or taken by anyone, especially a minor. This sounded logical and I offered to pay him cash. He then said that the delivery company required payment to be by credit or debit card only, so that everything is properly accounted for. He added they also don't carry cash to avoid loss or likely targets for robbery. My husband, who by this time was standing beside me, pulled out his credit card, give to him to swipe the card on a small mobile card machine with a small screen and keypad and asked to key in the verification code. Frankly at this point we never suspect anything ad normal and a receipt was printed out and given to us, he then wished us good day and went off as normal, To our horrible surprise, between Thursday and the following Monday, $5000 had been charged/withdrawn from our credit account at various ATM machines. Apparently the "mobile credit card machine," which the delivery man carried had all the info necessary to create a "dummy" card with all our card details, of course with the verification code. Upon finding out about the illegal transactions on our card, we immediately notified the bank to stop payment, but already too late. We went to make a Police report, and was confirmed quite a number of households had been similarly hit. WARNING: Be wary of accepting any "surprise gift or package," which you neither expected nor personally ordered, especially if it involves any kind of payment as a condition of receiving the gift or package. Also never accept anything if you do not personally know or there is no proper identification of who the sender is. Above all, the only time you should give out any personal credit card information is when you yourself initiated the purchase or transaction! PLEASE Pass this on, it may just prevent someone else from being swindled.

  11. Has anyone engaged 3Interiors curtain contractor before? There are new flats around Yishun blk 333 and they stick flyers in that area for customers. We find the price attractive and thus engaged their service. Everything looks ok when this Chinese guy by the name of Timothy came to our house, together with a chubby chinese lady with tattoo to take measurement of the window. It was 08 Aug, National Day and we were watching the National Day parade at home. We were quoted $900 for master and living room for blinds and was asked to make a deposit of $500. We didn't have cash on hand thus bank transfer was done. Till to-date, they kept postponing the installation date and when we told them it must be done before house warming on 20 Sep, they said ok but did not show up. Most calls and messages were unanswered. We told them we wanted a refund, they said ok, will refund by 01 Oct but thereafter did not transfer the money. Did not reply to our SMS too. 14. He comes across as a very amiable person, yet has problems completing a job. Get him if you want a handyman who can't complete a simple job after 1 month or a quack job like the tile laying below. Aero, aka Yeo Choon Seng, 92300372 Today he has abandoned his job, leaving me without a door frame- which he had taken out and tried cutting. He cut the edges but stopped, saying that the battery for his tools has depleted although I saw him using the electrical plug. I suspect that he realised that cutting the door would cause the tempered glass to crack but I will only find out if my suspicion is true when another handyman turns up. Edit- Another handyman turned up 1.5 hours later and said that using a mechanical tool would cause cracks so he manually sawed off the rest of the portion left by Aero. Him and his partner could not believe the poor handywork. His partner picked up a tile that Aero supposedly laid and it came off without any problems. They shook their heads when I recounted that Aero had intended to place the old concrete circular tiles next to the square tiles. TLDR version- this guy can't finish simple jobs, gave bad advice, postponed coming 3 times within the span of a month, thinks that measuring the thickness of tiles 'isn't (his) obligation and ultimately WALKED OUT on a job leaving me without a door, uncured exposed cement and badly laid tiles.' The door was left on the main roof terrace- I suspect he realised that it can't be cut without damaging the tempered glass and pretended that his cutting tool had no more battery even though he was using an electrical plug. 1. He can't finish jobs. He first came on 28th August. Today is the 30th September(more than a month later). and he has yet to cut and replace the rusty casing covering my wires- the first time because he didn't have the proper tools, the second time because his cutter wasn't strong enough to cut through the metal. Today is the 30th September and the job is still not done. He frequently makes an appointment and then cancels without so much as informing you. I would always need to follow up on whether he would be coming. The huge mirror which he mounted and which he ensured was 'secure' despite my reservations was dislodged by my cat. He hasn't done anything to rectify it. I have had to resort to blu-tack as a temporary measure. 2. He gives bad advice and can't do basic due diligence like measuring the tiles because 'that's not (his) obligation'. On his advice, I bought tiles for him to overlay. Only after the tiles have been bought and he had laid some of it did he tell me that the door to the terrace would not open unless it was cut, but of course I shouldn't worry. 3. He talks a really big game and assured me that he would pay for a new door if there were any problems when I expressed my reservations about him cutting the door. When he said he was going to walk out of the job and I threatened him that he would never get another job off Gumtree, he said 'I don't need the money'. On another day when he came to finish laying the rest of the tiles, he casually remarked that the difference in the depth of the tiles was so huge that he would need a second layer, very different from the measurements that I had given him. When I told him that I hadn't given him any measurements and that the tiles were already in my house for him to inspect and measure himself before laying the first batch, his reply was- 'That's not my obligation'. Later on I found out that he had intended to lay the old circle tile next to the square tiles, instead of what we discussed- overlaying them over all the old tiles. Never mind that this would create a problem not only aesthetically but logistically given that water was going to collect in between the old and new tiles when it rains. When I called his job rubbish, he took offence and used that as an excuse to leave- a job really badly done and me without a door. Over the span of 1 month, he has postponed coming 3 times. Anyway, the photos would speak for themselves. You can see the old circular tiles which he planned on placing next to the square tiles despite me remembering him saying that it would be placed over the tiles and 'not to worry. Aero is here'.
  15. Hi Forum Members, There is this clown by the name of TangYM who is going around hijacking threads, to send PMs recommending a totally unrelated firm JO Design & Contact/Contract which has no relevance to the thread. If you were to see his profile and activities, you will understand what I am talking about. Even his reviews are copy and paste. Totally unethical and really a clown act by this joker. Is there anyway to report him? DISGUSTING!

  17. Hi, I would like to share my recent experience with an electrician named Tan. He cheated my mother of $1450 and I don’t want anyone else to fall victim to his scam tactics so please be aware and help to spread the word. The main power of our house had been shorting out at random times over the past week or so. My mother found Tan's ad for electrical services in the newspaper and called him to come and check what was causing this on 6 December. He came over to our house and checked the main circuit board. He said it needed to be replaced and that it would cost $1450 to replace some circuit breakers and a copper wire. My mother said $1450 was very expensive and asked if he could give a discount. Tan refused repeatedly then started using scare tactics, saying the problem was “serious”, “the circuit breakers were all “black” and that “the house could have burnt down”. My mother is a retiree and she was alone at home that day. When she heard these things, she got scared and agreed to his price. Tan then proceeded to replace the circuit breakers, but started displaying a lot of bizarre behaviour. He started complaining that the house was “very hot” and that he was “tired” then repeatedly stepped out of the house to the common corridor, saying he needed to “rest”. He took a grand total of 30min, INCLUDING his repeated breaks of stepping out to “rest”, to fix the circuit board and said he would give her a one-year warranty on the circuit board parts he replaced. After Tan left, my mother was very upset and called to tell me what happened. I was extremely angry that she did not call me earlier to discuss this, as I even though I am not familiar with an electrician’s typical pricing, I know that $1450 is a ridiculous amount to charge for less than 30min of work replacing a few circuit breakers and one copper wire. I would have told her to have at least gotten a second opinion and to definitely not agree to such an outrageous price. I asked my mother why she agreed to Tan’s price and she said she got frightened when he said the switch board could catch fire and burn the house down. Tan took advantage of my elderly mother, and the fact that she was alone at home with no one to help advise her that this was 1) an unreasonable price, 2) she should get a second quote, and used scare tactics to scam her. His tactic of scaring my mother into acceptance was completely unethical and the fact that he charged so much for such little work was so utterly reprehensible. To make matters worse, the power in the house shorted out again the very next day – three times! When she called Tan to inform him and asked him to come back to check, he said he was busy settling “personal matters” and was not free to come back. He then had the audacity to tell my mother that the wiring of one of our electrical appliances may be faulty and we should “call an electrician” to “settle our problem” before calling him back. My mother told me what he said and I was furious and shocked at the nonsense Tan was spewing. He is an electrician. He was hired to check and fix the electrical fault one day ago. He overcharges by a crazy amount and then it turns out the problem had not been fixed at all. Then he refuses to come back even and tells us to hire “an electrician”?! Where is the logic in that? Clearly he did not do a proper job in the first place and clearly he is not honouring the one-year warranty he guaranteed. I asked my husband to call Tan to talk to him. Tan gave the same nonsensical answer that he was not free to come back until maybe one week later. Tan also said he would have to charge us again if he were to come back. My husband pointed out to Tan that it was his job to check everything that day to find what was causing the short circuits but he clearly didn’t do that and if so how he could have charged $1450. Tan insisted that was just for replacing the circuit breakers and that if we were not happy then “don’t call him back”. My husband told Tan that he was clearly cheating my mother of her money and if he refused to make good on his service and warranty, my husband would report this to the police and CASE. Tan then cursed my husband with a string of Hokkien vulgarities and hung up the phone. This incident has left my whole family feeling cheated and scarred. Not only was my mother cheated of $1450, we now have to hire another electrician to do the work that Tan did not do in the first place. And my mother is ashamed that she got cheated by Tan and traumatised by all the lies and trouble this crook caused. I’ve reported this incident to EMA and CASE, but CASE said it is unable to help because Tan is an individual not a company. I’ve attached a pic of Tan’s newspaper ad. Please do not engage his services and fall victim like we. I do not wish for anyone else to get cheated by this crook and he needs to taken to task for scamming an elderly lady of so much money. EO
  18. Dear Readers, I am writing this post to alert everyone on the questionable business practice of an Interior Design/ Contractor named Interior Factory Pte Ltd. The registered director is called Alloysius xxx, and the interior designer for our project is Xavier xxx. *** We got the keys to our BTO early this year. Just like other couples, we were exited to have a place of our own but at the same time, we were also nervous about choosing the right interior design firm that fits into our concept and budget. We settled on the above mentioned company after talking to several other IDs. It turned out to be a bad decision and the start of our ordeal. Long story short, we paid 95% (in accordance with the contract) what came up to be $31,000. A reasonable time frame for completion would be 1-1.5 months but 4 months into the project, many areas of the house like the Quartz kitchen top, window grills, shower screen and some other miscellaneous items are still missing. At this point, both the boss Alloysius and the designer Xavier were unreachable. Even on the odd occasion when Xavier picked up the call from a number other than mine, he sheds all responsibility on this issue, claiming the boss has taken all the money and gambled them away. To compound matter, their workers damaged the timber flooring on all 3 of the bedrooms. The dents are obvious and irreversible. Engaging another contractor to varnish them cost us another sum, on top of the amount to complete the unfinished work. On Interior Factory, Alloysius and Xavier -The address on the agreement is a home address rented by Alloysius. The problem is, he no longer lives there. Going down to this place, the other tenants told us he hasn't been living them for some time already. -If the above is true, then there's a conflict with the registered address on his NRIC. The address on his NRIC is the same as the address on the agreement. But if he doesn't live there and didn't update his current place of residence, doesn't that constitute to an offence under the Singapore law and penal code? This is all the more jarring as he intentionally conceals his real place of residence as an escape to con people of their hard-earned money. -From our understanding and talking to other contractors, he also owes other contractors and sub-contractors for the work they have done for him. While some have tracked him down and he promised to return them the money on a said date, he has never deliver and has been on the run since. -Xavier, while obliging and extremely friendly initially, started becoming less responsive and eventually uncontactable as the project drags on. Simple requests like rendering the color of cabinets, showing perspective from different angles all didn't get done. He even got the paint color of our walls wrong! He has already failed us on so many instances, building up empty promises like finishing this aspect of the renovation by a particular date etc. When confronted, he displayed an air of arrogance and proceeded to say there is no point looking for him. On hindsight, we should have: - Dictate our own payment terms. Some companies will point the industry practice of A% deposit, B% upon commencement of project and C% when blah blah blah is up. The point is, make progressive payment only when work is done, not when you assume the work will be completed. This way, if they run into cash flow problem (which is common) or any other issues, you minimize the damage and don't end up losing too much money. If they don't adhere to your request, take the business elsewhere. There are tons of companies out there. - Meet the boss of the company. Have a conversation with him at his office, not some other places like McDonald's. Be weary if he insists on meeting outside. *** At the end of the day, despite all this unfortunate happenings, we also have to hold our hands and admit that our inexperience. We were too trusting and too big-headed to accept advises. While I struggled to recount the experience, I believe it's our duty to highlight this case and bring it to the attention of readers here. It's been a rocky journey in building our first home, but it's even more depressing knowing that the law can't bring shady businesses like this to justice. CASE and SCT have limited power to act against matters like this. If we were to engage a civil suit against them, they could declare bankrupt and shut the business. Because these scumbags will continue to act in their own interests, it's best to know who are the black rats, avoid them and warn people you know about their questionable ethics.
