Hi guys, I just bought a resale condo of 1023sqft. Currently quite bare with no built-in fixtures (except for the existing wardrobes). Looking to do the following: - Removal of laminate flooring and replacing with parquet for the rooms (total of 406sqft); prob need to hack abit before laying parquet - Installation of Feature wall in living room - Painting of whole house with off-white paint) How much you think this will cost? And if anybody has got reliable ID/contractors to do this? Thanks

Hi everyone, in need of advice! I'm currently renovating my 30 year old resale flat and have a problem with the skirting done by my contractor. Before the renovation started, I went with his suggestion to have a tile skirting to match my floor (I wanted to go without skirting or have a white skirting but he said better to use the tiles). Now that the skirting is up, I'm unhappy with the outcome - the skirting looks thick, some parts look thicker than the rest and the finishes on top of the skirting are uneven/wavy. When I raised these concerns to my contractor, he said this is the tiler's technique (i.e. the skirting finishes with a slope upwards) and nothing more can be done as our walls are not straight. He said we can hack and redo with a flat finishing but it will be sharp at the edges (??) and he cannot promise it will look better. Basically, NOTHING CAN BE DONE. Can I seek forumners views: Is what my contractor said true - that nothing can be done? Is this kind of workmanship acceptable? See photos attached. Is it possible to hack away my skirting without damaging the floor tiles? At this point, is it possible to hack away and do without skirting OR replace with a skirting board? Thanks all in advance!

I wanted vinyl flooring for my kitchen, living hall and bedrooms. My cement screed was done at a lower height, shortage abt 7mm - 10mm from my kitchen existing tiles. I was unable to have my vinyl levelled between kitchen and living hall. They have to put on an pvc cap between kitchen and living hall. Is there anyway to fix this? I was expecting the whole flooring to be of the same level.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has an experience of repainting their floor skirting. Can a white-painted wooden floor skirting be repainted/ revarnished back to become its natural wooden colour again? Should I talk to a painter or carpernters? Thanks! ?

You bite the bait and clicked right in. They have likes, shares comments and enquiries like they're legit hot! 10 years warranty woah say! They even have lucky draws, boy oh boy! You think to yourself, "Woah this design I buy from XXX and YYY stores need to pay alot more leh!" It's your dream furniture coming true at a price so unreal. So you tag your spouse/friends and say "Let's go!" Few showrooms you go shopping, impressive showrooms. You're convinced by now they confirm legit! WATCH OUT FOR THESE: - When are these FB Pages created? - Have you heard of them? - Do they sound awfully similar to other established companies? - Are they always slashing prices? - Do a few new/unfamiliar FB Pages sell very similar products at very similar unbelievable prices, at the same period? - Heck, do their photos and products look almost the same?? Hmmm. - Compare with prices of reliable competitors. Are prices ALOT lower? If so, why? - Check their addresses. How long have they been located there? If new, where did they move in from? - Are they registered companies with ACRA? - Home furnishing industry in Singapore isn't that large. Suppliers are only a handful. Question to ask is, how does a new company you've never heard before, maintain an impressive showroom, its operating and man costs, costs of supplies and shipping, and still give you that **** good price PLUS warranty? - They tell you they have a factory? Outside Singapore? Google it. Ensure they are actually related. Even if they have the same names. SIGN 2. SLASHED PRICE & BARGAIN-ABLE (WHAT?!) At the showroom, your friendly sales guy sits you down and treats you like royalty. You say it's out of your budget or you'll consider, but he forces his charm on you and keeps you back. Before you know it 2 hours of your precious shopping weekend gone. He asks what's your budget? You tell him. He whips out his calculator and punched in some numbers. His brows knit so hard they're about to merge. He then stands up and tells you he'll talk to his boss. There you wait, minutes ticking. After what seems like forever on this precious day, he returns with a million dollar smile. He says "Only for you" and shows you the magic number. He says 70% deposit, you hesitated, but he managed to convince you why it's necessary. Well, you've to pay for it eventually, why does it matter, right? Somehow, like you're under his spell, you put your money on the table. Excited that you've officially been promoted from endless shopping, to awaiting that empty space of your home completed. "It's a great deal!" You and your wife brimming with joy. Silently, you try to shake off the nerves. WATCH OUT FOR THESE: - Prices are already unbelievable and you can still bargain? Does it sound too flexible? - If you're getting a bad vibe, trust it, walk out and cool off. Don't let the sales person pressure you into making a decision. - Know the company you're visiting. As in, know its registered company name. And ensure you're given an invoice in that name...with the right address. - Ask about the warranty, how will they honor it? Who services it? Any form of documentation for it? - Oh, and are you highly encouraged to pay cash/ cash transfer at any point from sales to site visit? Why, cheque cannot ah? SIGN 3. LIKE A LATE PERIOD Delivery is 5 minutes later, you receive a call from the boss. He says sorry, shipment is delayed, will need 2 more weeks. This is after "I forgot to order!" "I'm overseas." "I lost my cat!" You're frustrated but what can you do? You've paid 70%. So you wait. Delivery is 30 minutes ago, but there's still no sign of your dream furniture coming. You call the boss, no answer. You call the charming sales guy, he's resigned. You call the boss again for the next hour, he answers and sounds more puzzled than you. He tells you he'll find out what's going on. Half a day later, you call him again for another hour. He calls back and says the supplier made a mistake, wait another 2 weeks. By now, you're furious. But what can you do? THE day comes, nothing again. You call and nothing. A day gone by, nothing. The next day you go back to the showroom with your 6 packs and a bat, just to find the showroom empty. Completely evacuated. Up on the glamorous door is a sign that says "WE ARE TOTALLY UNRELATED TO S.C.A.M. PTE LTD". You realize you've been s.c.a.m-ed. WATCH OUT FOR THESE: I'm sorry. By now there's nothing to watch out for. You're bounced from SPF to CASE and back to your home with that empty corner, a hole in your pocket and a sore thumb from poking that a*hole on your phone. Hi, I found some of the interesting materials when I was doing my research. Cork flooring is one of them. This material is made of CORK, and it is in a plank like vinyl flooring. But Vinyl flooring is made of PVC which is not so environmentally friendly. You guys can have a look. It seems like a pretty cool alternative flooring material for us. It has green and sustainable certification and it is low in formaldehyde. ou gu

Hi All, I was thinking of doing overlay of Vinyl Tiles on my existing on Terrazo flooring for my 3 NG resale flat. However, as the existing skirting is the curved kind (common for Terrazo flooring), it is necessary to hack off the existing skirting right . Was quoted $700 just to hack off the skirting for living room and 2 bed rooms. Need advise to know if the charges are reasonable. Also, I also prefer if its possible to overlay without any hacking. Appreciate all good advise. Thanks all !

During the HDB HIP the workers completely wrecked the laminate skirting just outside of my toilet - it's as if they soaked all the skirting in water! Now I need to find someone who to replace the skirting. I tried looking online but no luck finding a company who is willing to do this small job. Can anyone help?

Hi all, just want to share my experience with St Paris, you can find them on facebook easily. We were shifting house and were looking at vinyl flooring for the house. We found St Paris through fb and went down to their showroom on 17th Aug. Payment made in full (our mistake, should never pay in full) as they insist and need it for shipment to come in. Date was tentative placed as 5th Oct Come first week of Oct, my ID contacted them to deliver and install on 3rd oct (we are okay with 5th oct as well but please see below) but the reply from Adrian (their staff) was he will check and get back to us. After 2 3 days of checking and follow up, he got back saying shipment can only come later and installation can only be 15th oct. Question is, so where did they put my money to if it was not used to place orders. I believe from mid aug till early oct, there is no way the stock wouldn't have arrive if St Paris did place their orders. Adrian kept on asking us down to rechoose another design and as we are busy, we said just send us photo. We decide to make the best out of it and just choose another one(lets call this the 2nd choice), but guess what, upon choosing another design, adrian inform us this is out of stock as well. So why bother showing us. I decided to call the boss Alex and he told me he will settle. Reply was slow and ended up adrian gave us our 2nd choice (phew), we thought the worst is over. Come installation, timing was cock up. 4 installers came but there was no vinyl so they ended up sleeping for 1 hr plus. Okay nvm, cock up happens right? After doing, they inform not enough stock, one of my room is like 3/4 done. (huh? I was literally huh?) Okay nvm, we insist they come back the next day and complete the job which alex and adrian did make it happen. Maybe you guessed it right, the stock came the next day but not the installer. So my poor ID again waited till installer come and do up the remaining. Of course it now looks completely different from what I chose, they decided for me the skirting as well. I don't know whats the purpose of me going down in the first place. I contact their fb and wrote a comment to ask them to contact me but they delete and block me. I apps alex and his reply was simple. Job done right? What i want? Job done? Yes after so much trouble and liaising Good job done? Definitely no Responsibility? Okay la, at least like what he said. Job done Just be careful of them and use at your own discretion

Hi, Its my first post here in Renotalk. I hope this queries there would be interior designers that can help advice. I just met on ID yesterday. I requested that I don't want floor skirting in my house cos i want my house to be minimalist theme and skirting kinda make my furniture not able to flush to the wall which overtime will accumulate a lot of dust. So the ID suggested that i do Vinyl flooring. But from all the internet research the vinyl sound very hospital feel to me like is soft and squishy. I have been living in a house laid with granite for 16 years and i am fine with the cold hard flooring but homogenous tile doesn't allow me to do without skirting and as heard from ID tiles would cost more for the installation. Can someone advice which would be better or people using vinyl for a while what is your view? And another thing is i wanted sliding doors for my room. But it seems that the ID i met is quite against it. His take is that the tracks will accumulate dust and if it is a top track the door might crack if knock against it too hard while sliding. Anyone did sliding door for their rooms?

5 years ago, I engaged a contractor (an ID company which was formerly at Commonwealth Dr but has sinced moved to Bkt Merah Central) to in-fill a step-down balcony area with cement and level it to the bedroom tiled flooring by removing the sliding door to the balcony and also enclose the roof opening to that area. Thereafter, the entire floor was laid over (without removing the floor tiles in the original bedroom) with wood laminate as recommended by him. We also engaged him to installed cupboards over this extended area which was formerly the balcony. A few months ago, we discovered the laminated floor around the cupboard (which was supposed to have in-filled cement beneath) was sagging and the the laminated floor over the original tiled bedroom area was 'popping upwards'. We called that contractor back and requested him for his opinion and a solution on the scary feel of the foor. He kept denying it has to do with his workmanship but kept pointing to possible water seepage or termites. He said he could not recall what was underneath the laminate and so he took from me a copy of the invoice of the works which I still kept in my files. He said he will go check his record and get back to me. After 3 weeks, I did not hear from him and so my husband and I decided to remove the laminate flooring to investigate what is going on under the laminate. We had to destroy several pieces of the laminates before we discovered that the original tiles in the original bedroom area were popping up. When we removed the laminates around the sunken cupboard area, we found rotting timber and wooden batten. There were no cement in-fill which was in the contract and which was also mentioned in the invoice we paid. We called in different groups of contractors for their opinion and we were advised to go back to seek redress from the errant contractor who did not do the cement in-fill that we paid for. One contractor told us that wood normally starts rotting after 3-4 years since dampness is trapped between the ground (this bedroom is on the ground floor) and the laminate (non breathable), and if the contractor does not want to do wet works, he will get away with it because the result will only shows up after many years like our case which was actually hidden under our cupboard. In order to rectify the situation, I was told the cupboards have to be removed, the rotting timber must be cleared out, cement in-fill done, water-proof cement screed done before a new layer of tile or laminate can be laid on. I sent the analysis and photographs of the whole situation to that contractor, hoping he will offer a solution....but it turned out worse than I expected - he kept denying he used wood at all. I attach here the whatsapp conversation I had with him as well as the photos I sent to him. He did not respond after I asked him "Where did u pour the cement then?" and I noticed he changed his whatsapp profile photo & status after that. Appreciate any forum members' advice on where and how I can seek redress to this situation instead of going the lengthy 'sue him' route. As the flooring is now in a big mess, is it advisable for me to engage another contractor to rectify the situation in the meantime? Are the photos I have taken and posted here sufficient proof to claim against him in the event I have to take legal action or do I have to take more photos after my carpenter removes the cupboard and before the new contractor does the cement in-fill? Hi guys, I am on a tight budget and in the midst of locating a supplier/ contractor to overlay living and 3 bedroom with resilient floor. (Approx 600sq ft) Trying my luck here to see if anyone has engaged before a reliable supplier with a lower price than what I had to recommend. Gone thru a few firms from big ones to smaller ones and price range varies quite a lot from $6.50 to $4psf Before confirming with $4psf firm, try to see if anyone in the forum has engaged/ or found a supplier that quoted lower than this..
