HI guys, I just received this quote for a new 4 Room BTO renovation (we opted for the tiles from HDB so this is not something that we need). Would appreciate advice to see if any of the following items seem out of place or if we missed out on anything. Thanks!

Hi guys, my husband & I are intending to engage this contractor for our new 3 room BTO (65sqm). We are doing up the 2 toilets & kitchen walls/floors. And doing concrete screeded floors with epoxy coating (not too sure if we can appeal for screeding from HDB hence asking the contractor to quote). The only carpentry is the kitchen. Is the quotation reasonable? Any red flags? Thank you for your help!

Hi everyone, We are looking for renovation IDs/contractors for our 4rm new flat and received some quotes from IDs. Our experiences so far are OK, they all tend to miss out our design requirements here and there, even after meet up and re-quote. They are all so far out of our ideal budget. Please help us review and advise us.

Hey all, I finally decided on an ID for my new DBSS at Centrale at Tampines in last month. It was so tiring seeing one after another but I learnt a lot from my experiences and decided to choose this ID as she was earnest, knowledgeable and willing to take on my demands. Hi all, I want to buy the corridor outside my flat. Any I.D or contractor has experience in such matters. I have checked with an electrician once and he mentioned that it was difficult to do rewiring because my neighbours at the lower floor who have already bought the corridor, rewired wrongly. I am not too sure in such. I believe anything electrical should be easy to overcome. Will appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi guys, I am in the midst of my renovation - all is going reasonably well at the moment but just received a VO from my ID charging me "supply and re-run damaged concealed piping". It's for both common and main bathrooms at $600 each. I remember clearly that he said it was damaged when the walls were hacked. Few questions: 1. Is the damage expected? e.g. it is understandable when bathroom floor is hacked then the WC will be damaged and cannot be re-used so a new one needs to be purchased 2. Shall the homeowner (i.e. me) expected to pay for this cost? 3. Lastly, is $600 sound reasonable at all for the replacement? Will be speaking to my ID about this later today but I wish today what the industry practice/norm is. Thanks!

Hi All, Anyone engaged ID Urban Habitat Design for their reno? How is the workmanship and service? We received a quote from them and is reasonable compared to engaging Contractors. However their payment term is not flexible. Asking 10% Upon confirmation, 40% before commencement of site and Masonry works , 40% before confirmation and fabrication of carpentry and 10% Handover. Although this is standard payment terms, we tried negotiating but not successful. 50% payment required even before starting any work. Appreciate any feedback.

Hi, we've finalised our layout and received the following quotation from our ID. Is it reasonable for a 3-room BTO (68sqm), and how else can it be improved? We're not looking for absolute cheapest because we believe in design and quality. But if there are items which jump out as unreasonably expensive or something missed out, please help us to flag. Do note our layout is not the traditional 3-room layout as our Master Bedroom will takeover the space in the existing Living Room, and we will hack the walls between the existing bedrooms to form 1 big Living/Work room. So the measurements may be a bit strange. Thank you in advance.

My first experience in choosing IDs so far: I uploaded my floor plan on Renotalk website and requested for quotations. Initially, I was flooded with many calls from several IDs. Almost all of them AGAIN! asked me to send the floor plan to them, even though I uploaded the floor plan on the website in the first place. Also all the IDs wanted to meet me and see the site. I asked all the IDs to drop me an email with their first quote based on the floor plan and my initial requirements for me to consider before I can meet them up. If not, I need to spend next many weeks just to meet them all! Surprisingly, most of the IDs never send me any email after the call. Only a handful few sent me emails some with standard package offers inspite of me mentioning what I wanted to do! Few of them sent me intro email and after that no response! I was impressed by Vincent Blog (http://www.vincentinteriorblog.com/) on his knowledge and advice to new home owners like me. I reached out to Vincent and sent him my floor plan and requested for quotations. (similar to Renotalk). I was recommended to 2 IDs by Vincent. Unfortunately AGAIN, no response by both the recommended IDs, inspite of me waiting for over 3 weeks for them to respond! Looks like every ID in this business is very busy with loads of projects! Appears to me that ID business is a good business to be in! In the next part, I will write about my experience in shortlisting the ID’s – thanks to the Renotalk friends feedback and some personal contacts.
