today was a hectic day again. weekends are burnt looking for furniture, deco and grocery shopping. cold storage has the promo for zwilling knives. we bought 2 steak knives, 1 paring knife, 1 chef knife and 1 cleaver, VERY WORTH IT. hehe less than 150 bucks i think HAPPY HAPPY for my hubby who loves to cook! love our rinnai cooker and oven. using rinnai inner flame to boil water for soup produces lotsa huge and evenly size bubbles in a shorter time than my parents' turbo cooker. hehe. WORTH every cent! The oven was used to bake our fave japanese sweet potatoes and to reheat crispy fried fish. The fried fish was not dried out and after re-heating the crispness remains and the flesh so soft

the measurements need to take tonight then let u know

We signed up mainly was due to the flexibility, price factor, and the feedback given previously seems good. We won't know what we are in for till we are in it, isn't it? You can either look at the situation as a half glass of water or half empty glass. What has been done is done, lesson learnt and gotta move on.

gal hugs, u have to call jason or ah soon to insist they come on that same day to maximise your time. have to be firm on that. ah wei is the sub con for quite a few famous ID in the market. think he is coming this sat to change my dishrack position (so we can put bigger plates ) for the measurements of the kitchen, don't leave it to the carpenters. one more impt thing is the top cabinets depth, it will hinder your preparation if the wrong depth is done.

aubrey remember to check the plastic water drainage/outlet on the toilet floor (i dunno what's the exact term) is not stuck to any dried cement that block any of the holes else u'll have flooding when showering or u'll have problems changing it next time when it turns yellow.

yups, i think most important is the flow u're comfy with. i agreed with smallboy's suggestion on having drawers instead of swing doors beside the fridge. it'll be convenient for a person to stand comfortably in front of the opening fridge and another person accessing these drawers right beside the fridge at the same time
-
nice one. aubrey are u a right hander? if so, u might want to consider swop the spice/oil pull out drawer to the place where ur intended gas cylinder is. also u can have pull out bottom tray for ur gas cylinder? just some thoughts edited: ignore this post, just saw that the food preparation is on the left, hence the spice pull out will be on ur right. it'll be perfect...

actually, we really can't bother with the rectifications already. coz moved in leh, don't want to waste the weekends covering up the place and then got to clean like MAD after the rectifications. we bought our grout at home fix and i intend to do it while watching tv in the living room. at least i can control and will minimize the mess. same goes for reno stains in the toilet bowl (debris stucked stubbornly to the bottom and paint residue), and waterbased paint spots on the laminates. thinking of engaging plaster-ers and nippon painters to re-do the whole house in a year's time.

i think ah soon will think doing my unit is the worst maybe he will feel we "yim chim" (particular) people. we tested almost every inch in the house and cast doubts on reasons given for some things by google around, ask friends in this line... LOL

must be excited for ur new home to be. u can do ur "footwork" to source for stuff for the home already
-
it's the quantity.

ivy, after plumbing works, please test the water volume. if the outside pipes is bigger than the house pipings, the volume of water will be high (provided if there's good pressure) else if false ceiling up, too tedious to rectify.

rondy u're right, pd door should not have this problem. the problem lies mainly in the installation part, must "catch" it correctly. we done ours a few times (rectify) and now the mbr pd door is perfect, common toilet pd door is 95% nia as the closing alignment is not exactly to the door frame. it should be smooth closing between the two joining tracks to the end. if you have to jerk it forward or backward in order for the two tracks to join and your first door to slide into the second, then the problem is the installation part. best is to get PD door specialist to install.

i guess it's up to own preference. i think without would make look uniform

xbb, ur thread is moving so fast.... can't catch up. mortar base for wm and fridge/cabinets are erected for folks who like to splash lotsa water when cleaning their kitchen. if u belong to this school, then it's better to have a mortar base. i did mine without.

We used scraper, turpentine, cif on all the tiles but the stain marks are still visible. Sad. The grout lines is quite a joke. Why do they want to waste effort and do double work? All this can be prevented using corrugated paper. Our white framed windows already bruised before using - scratches, chipped, cigarette stain. Worst off the driller chip off a fifty cent size at the tile corner while doing up our weimi stainless steel rod. This tile cannot be changed unless we dismantle the cabinet. The way things are done are like half past six. Rods, rain shower, cable casing, downlight caring not straight. Previously, got one funny joker, install my surface mount sink with the base exposed. Huh? Thought common sense to hide that. Even a non professional know that. Uncle said some of the workers give him problems but to be frank that's his problem in using the wrong guys and why it has to be the home that has to suffer.

i understand your frustrations too. I'm too tired to chase after some of the rectifications work again and again. there are quite a couple of things to rectify - main entrance door (veneer door) chip off - laminates gap and chip, tiles chips - plaster and painting work not up to standard - grout turn yellow despite regrouting with the white grout powder (result of not putting corrugated paper at all times of reno) - doors not done properly, when wind blow can hear my doors "swing" even when closed - no stoppers done on my wardrobe door (think they forget le) - electrical cables slanted - floor not clean thoroughly, lots of stain marks - spots of paint (waterbased) in bedrooms (y don't use CORRUGATED PAPER???), even scrap off no use, once water evaporates off the spots of paint stick back in between the tiny streaks in the laminate - corian top not glossy one (the one we choose is glossy, and after polish it's matte)
-
hi ivy, i thought the plaster should be done first before the skirting?
-
the alignments looks good. great to see progress ur hubby is indeed sharp to spot that...
-
one question wendy, ur tall unit's (where the tandem boxes are placed) door is swing type, won't it get it the way of the fridge beside it? assuming that the fridge is right opening? if the tall unit is a pull out door, will there be a space concern?
