  1. What a rip off? They employed celebrities for carpentry works?
  2. Hi Bubsbunny, The clean floor means no debris of any sort. it does not really mean that you're able to lick the floor kind of clean. The sand particles is ok( most floorings are a bit dusty when laminate are done). The sound you heard definitely comes from the laminate itself. Its not possible to hear Sand rubbing against the laminate. There is a layer of foam to cushion the laminate already. Unless the workmanship of the laminate co is so bad that the flooring can still moves about, basically , the sound will goes off over time. Sleep well.
  3. Hi Bill, I sympathized with you. I engaged a contractor whom I paid only after they had done everything. You can say I'm mean but it shows very much what the contractor is after throughout the process of renovation - ie .. service and quality or getting the $ from your pockets first. The contractor I engage did not even asked for the $ and I reward the subcontractors with refreshments and prompt payment after the project well done. I have a friend who experienced something similar with your description. He took took the bait for one "good offer" and the cheapstake contractor not only delayed but did a blotch messed up job of the floorings. On top of that, he also asked my friend to give some more cash because the work was found to be "under quoted". When My friend did not obliged, the contractor dragged and further delayed the job on purpose. My friend had to abort the project halfway & get in other contractor to finished up at further cost. Something to learn is that not all cheap price and impressive or persuasive speech is genuine (You got to look beyond that by asking for specific obligations in the contract down in writing). Not all "family business" is honorable (his maid could probably be his wife & worker for all you know). Going to CASE may not be any help at all. You have a weak & arguable case. Believe me, there are lots of ppl sharing your same fate. The pen is mightier than a sword - use it. Errand contractors preying on unsuspecting ppl will fail oneday, so don't loose heart. U can be happier moving on with your life and warn ppl you know about that company/contractor.
  4. most carpentry company can do the modular kitchen cabinet. But because its custom made, they tend to charge more even though the material does not differ as much from fix cabinet. I dare say this becos i have designed my own modular cabinet for 4 ft + and quote came back is always 1k+. but going by pfr (ave $90-$120), it should cost abt $500. For the initial quest, I think if drawers is to be used, topping should not happen if the drawers were opened one at a time. The wheels should also not be too deep in. Also to consider is to contruct with drawers that can be open via opposite sides since its mobile( jus a suggestion).
  5. Err.... the question remains unanswered. any good electrician to recommend for this thread?
  6. Hi Wormz, There are 101 ways to cover up the vent by DIY. One good way already mentioned is to hang picture. there are other ways to cover up the small vent holes but vent holes is a good light source ( if you appreciate lights into the room) I suggest ways to cover it up, your power of imagination is essential: 1) Measure the dimension of the vent ( exact size) , go to picture frame maker and do up a simple frame. Once its done , bring it home and insert it into the vent, any small side gaps between frame and concrete just use white silicone to cover up. Now u can do wonders - u can use patterned silk cloth, or any embroideries and make use of the natural light coming it from the vent to bring our the color or design. U turn an ugly spot to one of beauty. 2) put up shelves just underneath the vent and put nice potted indoor pants there where small light source is essential for the plants. this way you put life into the room. don worry about mosquitoes as long as u don flood the pot. of cos there are other ways. but hope this will fire your imagination to do something interesting to your room.
  7. Hi vinaip, There is no such thing as "good" electrician. Most electrical Company uses a team of workers to cater for their jobs. So if you are "lucky" u have a responsible team to work on your hse. But if not, sorry to you. You just need to make sure that the electrician you engage is certified.
  8. hi there, I read yr question with some laughter i admit....The Taiwanese I think will be saying the same thing abt their lights being brighter... Its really gettting out of hand nowadays what sales person wil do or say to get their sales or old stocks moving.
  9. Hi Dry cell, I think its too late to tell you now. but ask yrself.. why is glossy laminate there in the 1st place? Or does it mean that matt surface do not scratch as much or obvious if it did. Yr ID is totally preposterous to suggest such a thing. Mine cab is glossy and i used it very often and i'm not wearing glasses. i don see scratch as much as from those matt ones. However, there is one vital reason that matt finish do have... it cost less than glossy ones... got the hint?
  10. Hi Applek24, hope you have got your ans to your ques. Its seems that there are more advises against plastering over wall tiles. The bottom line is.. just how much do you think it will cost you to hack off the wall tiles? The contractor will still charge you the cement screeding. If you hack and then plaster, it wont cost you too much, and most important, you wont have a lingering doubt whether the tiles will pop, plaster peel or area getting narrower. Think about it.
