Finally! Our loan application is finally approved! After all the worries and delays due to PHs and festive season, we finally got the approval. Should be going down to Maybank one of these days soon, to sign the loan application. The Maybank officer has already called our contractor to ask him to apply the HDB reno permit for us liao, so our reno should be starting real soon. Just hope that it'll complete before our current place's 2nd appt, if not we'll have no place to stay!

Spam chop & congrates on ur new home! I agree that it's better to let both boys stay together first. It'll improve their bond and increase independence as well.

Some of the ppts are right in the middle of the wall.. so weird...

Yoz Yoz! Hee.. Actually the loan delay has nothing to do with the contractor and everything to do with us. hehee.. RHB deemed our my hb's cash flow too tight (actually it's just for this couple of mths where we have to use part cash for house instalment until my hb's cpf is freed up fr current house), and rejected us. We just applied for Maybank reno loan, and the delay was due to CNY nobody working. hehehe.. Hope to have an ans nex week bah. Agree that reno project gota b a hapi one. But the price range is very tempting like I shared with you. Hehehe.. But yupz, now still holding my horses and contemplating loh. Johnson gave me sme gd advice as well, on what to do should I still choose this contractor. hehehe Haha.. I reali abit blur about all these. But I know my hb is going to ask lots of stuff the next time we meet him. YAH!! The interests are scary! And we intend to pay back the loan in full when we get the profits from current house, so all the more x with the cancellation fees etc. So that one is out. hehehe

Pull-out Dustbin For Kitchen Cabinet...with Swing Doors
Angel81 replied to ilmare612's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
I also saw this at Howards! Very good idea, but VERY x for a dustbin. Alternative will be the dustbin at ikea. *see links below* I know that the bins can either be mounted onto the door, or placed on a sliding rail that will allow the dustbin to slide out when the door opens. However, I think there's no cover. http://www.ikea.com.sg/catalog/product_dis...579251-79503577 http://www.ikea.com.sg/catalog/product_dis...579251-79371284 -
Hmm.. True true.. I think he's using subsidary company, that's why we don't need to pay GST. *headache man now*.. But I'm going to see if can get loan first, and use this time to think it through carefully loh. Thanks for the clarification BunBun! Yah loh! I'm just afraid of that, that all our $$ will fly away.. But if we are really going to engage him, we intend to get a copy of his IC so that he can't run away. See how bah I guess

Thanks Reiki! I really hope to make the right decision for this. Totally agree with you that we have to be comfy with the action decided on, esp with such a large amt of $$. One of my hubby's fren recently got conned by a reno firm's staff. Luckily the company is bound by contract, and have to finish the job. So it was the company that lost the $$ and not my hb's fren. That's why we decided to check our shortlisted contractors carefully. Even if we decided to go with this contractor, we'll know we have to keep an eye on him, and only make payment when things are done properly. Harlow harlow! Agree with you. Trust is very impt in such cases. Moreover we don't know these contractors personally, so it's better to do more homework before confirming anything. Just hope that we'll make a good and correct decision for such a big and happy project! Ur loan also stuck ah? Mine now also. Sianz... Really hope that the current bank we're trying will fast fast approve our loan and we can start our reno. U know, we even chose our tiles and laminates liao. Now just waiting for the loan thingy... Signz... Everything keeps dragging and dragging... Haha.. That sounds very chim to me. HDB permit is the hacking/reno permit izit? Good to hear that it's not an issue though.
-
Harlow harlow! Yah! I read that before, and that's why I feel abit uneasy. Even if this guy won't cheat us of our money, there's still the issue that if he does sth wrong, we will be at fault too, for the fact that we engaged one w/out a HDB license. Is it true that the contractors have to pay a sum to HDB to be their licensed contractors? That should be why some don't do that bah, and there'll be no need to pay GST and stuff. Haiz.. headache.. Haha, cannot hi-five u, cuz this is not a good situation to be in. Hmm, I don't reali know about the banks and main con being in HDB listing. The banks that we went to to apply for reno loan did not say anything about this so far. But I'm curious if he's not in the HDB list, how can he apply for reno permit to do wet works. But on the other hand, he did do wet works for the forumner who recommended this contractor to me leh. Maybe I'll go ask the contractor when he comes back fr msia.

Hi apple and pinkpetter, Thanks for the reply and advice! Yah, I did check with the banks and yup, the cheques can't be made in my name. Think they're afraid that we'll take the money and not do reno or sth. I understand from them that the amount can be separated into a few cheques, but still, the main amount to purchase supplies etc is big enough when u think abt it. *shudders* I got A's contact from a forumner here, and so far this forumner's house is the only one I can find that is done by A. I don't know any other people who use him. Letting my imagination overrun, I can imagine that the houses A showed me could be his relatives or friends and not done by him. Those house owners' words are all I have as good track records, but I don't know them at all.

Advice Needed Hi Guys. I need some advice. Here's my situation: I have a shortlisted contractor and am currently waiting for reno loan approval. Previously I checked on HDB webbie for the list of approved reno contractors, and realized that my shortlist contractor's (let's call him A) company is not listed in it. However, a similar name reno company is listed at the exact same address, and is under another person's name. I went to ask A, and he told me that it was registered under his bro-in law's name when they joint ventured previously. Then his bro-in law decided to go back msia, and he registered another company - whh is A - using the same address. But he just did not register this company with HDB. Acting on the advice from a friend, I went to purchase the Biz File from ACRA for this company. And I found out that the company is not registered under A's name. Now I'm really not sure if it's a good idea to sign with A. A is recommended to me by a forumner, and I've been to a couple of the flats A renovated. I have also went to the shop to take a look. A seems very nice and knowledgeable as well. The house currently done by him for the forumner looks good as well. But call me negative, paranoid or watever, but isn't it very possible that A may cheat us of our hard earned $$? After all, (1) the company is not registered under his name, (2) the company is not under HDB's approved contractors, whh means that HDB can't help us should anything go wrong. Advice?

Hi hello88! Thanks for the pics! Wah, the pipes are very nicely done. They look so neat. Hmm.. I think ur WC can be located there cuz there is enough space btw the sewage pipe and the wall. My pipes are really near the wall, so there's no space for the trunking to turn that 90degs. I'll show this to my contractor see what he says bah. Thanks again, and Happi Lunar New Year!

Wah the kitchen looks very new! Really don't need to do much reno. Congrates on a good buy.
