N will work better if your house is flooded with the G network from your neighbours. The signal from your neighbour can greatly degrade the network in your house. Same goes if ur neighbours all use N, then the N performance will be degraded. You can never exceed the 8Mbps your MOL service is giving you. However, the N network will benefit your internal file sharing. For music stream, not much a difference as music is generally low bandwidth. e.g. high quality mp3 could be typically 256kbps, something your G network can handle without sweat. IF you stream video, then it will make a difference

i remembered singtel have this service where u can access what is captured by your camera through your mobile phone. You can check their website for more info If you want to go DIY, network vendors like linksys and dlink manufactures wireless camera where you can plug in to your home wifi network. A basic linksys model cost abt $200-300 IIRC. However, they require some setting up to allow u to access the camera from the internet. May cause more headache if u r unsure how to do it. The other worry is others may steal or vandalize your camera if u place them outside ur house, if u want to capture what is happening in front of your main door. so must also consider how to secure/protect your camera as well.

I think this problem exist in all homogeneous tiles. According to the various contractors and ID i have consulted, homogeneous tiles are slightly concaved, hence contributing to the uneveness. Only way to prevent this is dun use homogeneous tiles. Opt for natural stone/ marble etc

For painting a new coat of white paint over a previous white wall is the more problematic part. (e.g. ceiling) Last time when I painted my house, I cannot tell where I have stopped, or which part I have not painted yet. Luckily, there is a new product (i think by nippon) that the paint will be pink when wet and it will turn white when it has dried. Maybe u can check out this product. Should make your DIY painting life a little easier

Do you have a power plug near the place where you want to install your rear speakers? you may want to consider using wireless speakers. IMHO, running wires along the floor should be avoided. They are unsightly, not to mention dangerous. Since you mentioned you have false ceiling, do you want to consider doing some DIY? you can make small cuts along false ceiling, then slot your wires under them. After that use some putty of seal back the cuts, followed by painting. You may want to check out flatwire (http://www.flatwireready.com/) as well. But I'm not sure if the shops in singapore carries them

I changed my main door and main gate for $150 IIRC. got their contact from those stickers pasted in the lift. PM me if you want the contact I called. You can ask them to give you n estimate over the phone.

Liked their LED on the switch, so you can find your switch in the dark
-
try soaking it in white vinegar for a while, then rinse it.
-
Just to check. When you install the digital lock, what did you guys to to the lock at your main gate? while a digital lock means I dun need to use a key to open the door, it seems to defeat this objective when I still need to use a key to open my main gate.. so still need to use key

hawthorne replied to Topline's topic in Home Furnishings

pre-fab is those concrete walls that are cast in the "factory". When building the flat, the contractor will transport this big piece of concrete and secure it to the skeleton of the flat. standard concrete is where the contractor build those wooden frames to the skeleton and cast the concrete on the building site itself. I think cannot really tell by just looking at it. I knew the type of concrete my flat uses by just observing how they built it before my flat was ready. Budget-wise, try to get the most powerful u can afford lor. do not buy those unknown brands sold at the "buy-one-free-one" shops. Had a lot of bad experiences with those.

wooden decking for your balcony/foyer? feature walls?

kaka23 Higher wattage means the drill will have more torque (the amt of turning force), hence, indirectly means you can finish the job faster. A more complete picture will be u need a certain amount of torque to be able to drill in tough materials like concrete. Hence if u use a drill with insufficient power (hence insufficient torque), the drill will be unable to drive the drill bit into the wall. You will be wearing out the drill and the drill bit in the long run. You are right that the hammer action is important, hence all drills that are meant to be used on concrete should comes with it. I think for $100, you should be able to get a B&D (without the drill bits). Get the highest power you can afford, but based on personal experience, 500W seems too underpowered for drill through pre-fab concrete. For standard concrete, its quite ok. What types of concrete you looking to drill through?
