  1. the feature walls will be as simple as possible, not really a fan of wall paper in this humidity, so will probably go for laminates. still like the idea of the storage in the dining area but do realize it will make the space look soooooooooooooooooooo small! ****, can't have everything i guess. Will just go and look for a nice sideboard/hutch for that area.
  2. hehe i dun have hb leh the stuff i need to do are: 1. paint whole house 2. living room tv console and feature wall (only cause I wanna hang the tv) 3. master room feature wall, head board, side tables and dressing table. 4. small Lbox in the living room 5. install some lights/fans actually dun need ID hor?
  3. totally understand! am not so much of a blogger too.. but this time need help coz am doing this all by myself
  4. thanks ossify! not really planning to knock down any walls coz i need to move in as soon as possible!! (sold my old place already). Have decided not to go ahead with that, or rather KIV it for the future depending on how much storage I will need after I've thrown away the stuff i don't really want. Considered not using an ID but my ID is an old friend who is basically just helping me coordinate things coz i travel a lot and don't have time to coordinate. He's also helping me customize some stuff so ok lah... plus lots of stuff FOC but will definitely ask you for help!! I may need to ask you for kang tao to fix some lamps I have that need the switches repaired, etc.
  5. sorry for the noob question, but what is a pelmet?
  6. no worries, not blurness, floor plans can be confusing! the place is brand new, and came with one small galley kitchen, which i now call the dry kitchen, and the heavy cooking will be done in the back balcony which will be the wet kitchen. I bought my previous stand alone stainless steel sink at Hoe kee in IMM, they have various sizes available. Why don't you post your floor plan and the experts here may have some ideas for you?
  7. will put the fridge in the shelter, which will act as my walk in pantry. I don't have a layout per se.... cause most of it will be DIY/favour from my ID. The space in the original kitchen I will build a cupboard unit to house the built in oven plus some storage.
  8. i only have a dry kitchen, which is very very small!!! and will put a 2 burner electric stove there instead of using gas. Going to look for a stainless steel work top for that area. Will also get a stainless steel stand alone sink for the yard beside the washer/dryer to do the heavy washing (woks etc). For laundry since there's only me and my helper at home, am sure we can sort out a schedule where there will be no more clothes hanging when she is cooking.
  9. Hi porcupine, am converting it to a wet kitchen and will hang those bamboo blinds from ikea to protect it from rain... where is your new place?
  10. hi Mickey M, thanks for your feedback... think i'll have to scrap the idea too coz my ID said it will make the dining room very cramp, especially when we have guests. Like the rest of your ideas though, will do wooden blinds for the balcony door coz i find curtains very heavy in this weather!! and have had my massimo sofa from 2 years ago re-upholstered to red!!
  11. yeah.. will cost a bomb so will scrap the idea!
  12. hi merydith, that's what a friend of mine said too.. especially since the dining table i'm eyeing is 1800 X 90 cm.... and it's quite bulky looking even with a glass top! Will maybe just have to look for a console table or hutch. Another question, if i intent to put a stainless steel sink in the yard, plus a small cooking area, will it be ok if i just painted the walls or would i need to tile it up for eaiser maintenance? is there any waterprool paint that i can use?
  13. need the advice of the experts here.. I'd like to have ceiling to floor cabinets to cover the entire lenght of the wall from the balcony area to near the entrance, do you guys think it would cramp up the place if I use white shiny laminates? Be nice to have all that storage space although it would go against my new motto of NO MORE HOARDING!
  14. am so impressed you've gotten so much done already! i have barely started my shopping!!!
  15. Yeah, been to Mirage Teak House, quality is so so, may look at them for the balcony tables. I was looking for a glass top table with solid wood legs, really hard to find! am also trying to go with a new look this time around, less cluttered! More of a modern wood theme... lots of white, and dark wood, except for the sofa, which i've just had re-upholstered to deep burgundy red!!! i would leave your table, scratches and all, makes it look "lived in" and comfy! just got a quote from my ID, 15k for some minor carpentry and painting... seems a bit ex for a brand new condo?
  16. Hiya Umaisarah, yeah, Singapore Expats! It's actually not a ground floor unit, but the yard + balcony was the reason I got the place, even if the bedrooms are a little bit small. Have been reading your blog, I love the look of wood too! Looking for a dining table now, saw one in John Erdos but it's sooooooooo expensive!
  17. Thanks Simon, been reading your blog, your son is super cute!! Hi gals_mama, it's actually not that big, the balcony behind is part of the yard, which I plan to use as my wet kitchen (it's the reason I bought the place!)
  18. Life changes means I have to do reno again (2 years after I did the last one!) Been reading renotalk for ages and have found so many ideas from everyone one here.. hope for suggestions! Here's the floor plan....(taken from a property site website, will only get the key to the apartment on the 22nd)
  19. am pretty sure i saw a round extendable one with a glass top
  20. think you can get this in XZQT in Ion...
  21. Does anyone have good lobangs for tempered glass dining table top? I have a base I want to use and only need the glass top. thanks!!
  22. noooo you must try authentic indian food... if you're in bombay, go to the Kyber (spelling???) in delhi, go to the bukara in the sheraton hotel..the best tandori chicken and dahl ever ever ever!!!! just don't eat anything from the street
  23. your MBR wall is really super beautiful! really made me want to change ours!!
  24. depends on what you want to do, as the previous poster said.. we spent about 40K including furniture and lots and lots of carpentry and some pretty expensive lights.. no hacking though... the more you hack, the more you spend!
