  1. some added finishing touches.... Chairs for the entry way Table for the guest room - still need to find a nice stool/chair finishing touches left, am considering bedside table lamps instead of the ones I have that are bolted to the wall.. what do you guys think??
  2. yeah, good idea to look slowly for pieces that work for the space... for me, since i had the pieces, i designed the house around the art/antiques if the gallery will let you, take a pic of the art, then superimpose it into you wall so you can see what it will look like. and make sure you know the dimensions of the place it will go into before you buy!! let me know if you find nice pieces, am still looking for one for the dining room and master's bedroom
  3. your place looks really nice! the wall above the table top could do with some small prints? just to liven it up (but I know your wifey is minimalist so may go against her taste!)! love the idea of the picture hangers to act as cable control!! one thing about buying condo's that have lots of built it is that you feel it's "sayang" to redo too much right? And yes, I will add lots and lots and lots of power points next time too.. when I think it's the last time we will move! As it is, bf is already saying he saw a great looking unit in Farrer Road! I told him we should at least stay here for 2 years for all the effort we put in the place! But if a good deal comes.... who knows... will be renotalking again soon the shelves for DVD's was a good idea... would it be nice to have covered it with glass doors to minimize the "cluttered" look? more pics!
  4. yeah, bout 2-3 times a year at least.. will be going back (spain) in Nov, don't worry
  5. so girls, am flying off on thurs night... anythng you guys wanna tompang from europe?
  6. yep, definitely can bargain! i've been getting all my tv's fridges etc from them for the last few years, bargainable price, on time delivery and 5 years extended warranty... if you need a contact, pm me.
  7. i saw loads in home-fix in harbourfront the other day
  8. that can wait... get the rest of the house sorted first
  9. looking forward to seeing how the finished product looks like!
  10. is that the panasonic? If yes, I got that and am very happy with it! best way to deal with that is to cater a bigger space for future upsizing? no point buying a super big fridge now if there is no need for it...
  11. I find rugs "finish" the look of a place, makes it warmer and gives the area a lived in feel.... it also provides you with boundaries for each area without erecting walls. I've been to homes where rugs are used as an accent to highlght the colour theme or to bring out the furniture. You don't really need to vacuum rugs everyday, once a week is fine. Unless you have cats or dogs who shed into the rug. It's also a great "padding" for kids who are learning to crawl/stand/walk!!
  12. wow, that's a large place! congratulations and enjoy your reno!
  13. I totally agree! I love my Nespresso!!!! Still trying to decide which is my favourite flavour!!
  14. hi hi.. did you manage to find the furniture for your balcony?
  15. oh dear, that happened to me too, the fridge wouldn't fit through the shelter doors, luckily jerome was there when HN delivered the fridge, and he figured out a way to remove the doors of the fridge so I can still put them in the shelter.... good luck and hope your ID can figure it out for you!!
  16. hey, am part of that statistic too (not malaysian though) ! i'll also bring a bottle of wine
  17. should be ok. I also used the existing light point for my ceiling fan, going through the cove light. Only hassle is the switch for the fan is quite far, so i had to get a remote
  18. yep!! super good deal!! I can't make it to the July 10th as I'll be in Europe then one but will definitely go to the next one.... if you like garang guni type, i recommend this shop in rangoon road, david's antique, or this one in tanjong pagar (can't remember the name of the shop or the address) but it's right across Duxton road, run by this two old uncles..... if you want we can meet up to wade through the "junk" to find our "treasures!!" I have to go back to David's store to buy these 2 antique food carriers that I can't forget!!
  19. For me I found the service reasonable, 2 large trucks came and packed all my stuff within 2 hours (well packed, my antiques packed wrapped in cardboard plus shrink wrap), and all unpacked within 2 hours also (put my big and heavy items where I want them to go). They are slightly more expensive than normal, but I would rather have paid that little extra for peace of mind. I think some of the people here may have other experiences so it may be a good idea for you to search the forum. But for me, I have used them 5 times in the last 4 years and am very happy with them.
  20. true true, i've gravitated towards new homes so no chance to redo kitchens... would love to do an overhaul one day!
  21. Think they hold auctions every fortnight. The prices were ok, depending on the reserve placed by he owner. I got a solid wood study table estimated to sell at $350 for $200, very good condition, no scratches or anything and a pair of antique chairs with tea table for $300, estimate was $600. In some of the pieces sold, the prices went sky high, coz there were more than 3 people interested in the item! It's really fun and something you should go experience if you like the type of furniture they sell (mostly antique/woody furniture but they had some contemporary pieces too) You can get more info at www.expatauctions.com
  22. hmmmm best leave this conversation here before WE get into trouble!
  23. I saw one for sale at the expat auctions on Saturday (was just going to post something about the auction in a fresh thread!!) also saw a few in David's antiques in Rangoon road.
  24. hey, your reno doing very well!!! hopefully you'll take pics of the shelves
  25. Yah!!! i've lived in the East, Central, South East, North West and now Central West of Singapore! haha... but buying stuff overseas is so much better coz lotsa times they're cheaper, and more unique! Thnk the balance between accumulating kitchy clutter and decorating is very hard to do though... often what looks good in a store looks weird at home! luckily hb and i have almost similar tastes (dark wood, antique, bold colours) so it's not that big an issue... we've compromised on the photographs as he doesn't like them in the living room while i do! so... who supplies the door of the bomb shelter ? hehehe
