Hi Drac, Ya, nothg "happenin" w jus TV on HTS, onlu when playin CD, DVD etc. Initially wanna get 47" LCD w soundbar but after news tt Toshiba oso exit DVD race 2join Blu Ray tech, we downgraded2 40" LCD w HTS. Hope blu ray tech will be more affordable in a couple of yrs..

Hi Jacky, I dun mind writing la.. but dun wori, my Engrish beli da bad these dayz so I write plain2 they sure understood1 : ) If Svc Ctr say they wait till all move in then proper cleanin, wow my neck lyk giraffe leh As a/c ledge part of our purchase/ownership, WHY they never build a Door 2facilitate our access ah? - If safety is an issue, we can nail in locks& latch on tat door/install grills on ledge mah. - Now, our aircon contractor gotta climb over tiny window w big a/c compressor. We owners lagi worse.. can see rubbish, cannot reach! Aiyoh, veli siong/stressful staring out leh. We can't reach, then TC shud help us upkeep cleanliness! All da more TC shud clean NOW (less things on ledge & b4 everybody moves in, clutter up ledge & make cleaning harder..). - Then put notice tell new owners 2nform their contractors not2 throw thgs outta ledge 2min rubbish. - Thereafter, TC do twice/thrice yearly gondola clean up. Now so dirty but flyin Spore flag when thick layer of dust & rubbish strewn everywhr on ledges just a couple of metres away, dun make sense.. Sori i wrote so much re. rubbish on ledge issue.. Hi Coco, If tis pulls thru (pendin coordinator 2collate signatures), I wud expect TC to put up a notice as is their usual practice, to inform of such cleaning exercise & the dates concerned. Owners wud then take note of dates & exercise basic safety measures like shutting their glass windows, also frm the dust. Similarly, I expect TC to exercise basic care & due diligence in assigning designated workers & not allow any unauthorised persons into the gondolas so as to prevent any break-ins. Cheers : )

Ur "The town council and RC could probably get together to make such apparatus available for loan by residents who needed them" is a good suggestion! _____________ Hi Meepok, I agree w u. Short of jumpin onto ledge, only way is to push them down. I reckon those rubbish are a sight, potential health hazard & possibly invite pests. I borrowed a long hose 2spray water 2rid of rubbish/debris frm my a/c ledge on rainy day (owners' windows shut frm da rain so wun be affected. anyway, most lower units fr 2nd ballotin stil unoccupied). Not easy cos @1st hose dun fit kitchen tap (dun wanna use force & ruin my Italian kitch mixer). Then, gotta coincide my visit w a rainy day. Am stil waitin, sigh... I dun tink u shud bear replacemt cost if those "external dimples" on yr window-panes werent caused by u. If the authority (maybe under jurisdiction of Service Ctr (our bldg contractor) instead of Town Council) dun revert w/in a reasonable time, suggest u lodge a written complaint for replacemt of the affected panes. (os old NTUC, near Courts) used to house SEA? Games sportsmen who took part @opp Stadium. When Games over, sold2 locals (my relative stayed there for decades b4 their recent move). Miss da library Fountain, da Garden... Now, I DO remember tat Silver Stream/River aircon food place(wah, so long ago oredi)! Used to hv meals there w relatives/ frequent my fave mutton soup, haha! dunno where it moved to. Thanx for bringin us down memory lane!! & oso Congratz on ur commencement of reno!

Hi Yeoman & Tension, Due2 recent spate of posts re. changing hinges, I called HDB to enquire if we need 2reinforce our gates w such hinges. 2summarise their reply, our gates & hinges r not inferior in quality so, do not require replacemt of hinges. The hinges face inwards ie. not exposed2 passersby so, not easily accessible. Knockin off any hinge (even if shouldered onto gate) is possible but knocking sound can be heard by neighbors. Even after destroyin hinges, above door got no Gap so, can't reach in & use tool 2remove Vertical iron bar tat holds gate (cos embedded into concrete). Besides, got 2nd iron "embedded/locked" into concrete ie. latch tat prevents gate from being opened wider (4admission of larger furniture pcs, etc). But if burglars wanna CUT grills w tools for removal of gate then, there's hardly anythg u can do 2prevent. Accordingly, guy claim hinges weak just 2market his stuff. P/s - I dunno hinges face wch way cos din luk closely. No offence to any1 who replaced/wanna replace hinges, jus relayin wat I heard frm HDB, for yr consideration/ref. Hi Almonddust, Suggest u talk2 couple & get their understandin as considerate neighbors. Earlier, after Strawberry initiated talk w Dr Ng abt Child Care Ctrs, i broached da topic of a Sheltered Bridge linking our Blk 79 & opp blk 177.. so as 2facilitate da young & old goin to school/MRT/bus terminal on rainy dayz. Da RC staff answered some qns then left us alone whereby we luk down@ da junction & Dr Ng asked while I tried to point out potential locations where they can possibly build a bridge. Da Minister said there may be feasibility probs (too near junction), aesthetic probs (bridge too short, wil luk weird/unsightly). If not, go underground (tunnel) like 40 storeys in Lor 2 (he say wil be expensive).. I conveyed my suggestion tat his men/experts study for da convenience &/ safety of folks@ 79 during da wet seasons. It's oso there tat I met frenly Strawberry & HB, Shirl.. & da short hair lady in pink, tink her name's M.. (sorry can't reveal more online), all frm Blk C. Hi Tenz, Yeah, man.. felt I was typing a reply tat din feel quite right (abt fan heaters) until 'Ding'! it occured to me it's Shower heaters I'm indeed a creature of habits. Why? Recall when I 1st return frm o/seas & told frens 2go ahead & order@cafeteria when they asked if carrot cake's ok. (Not hvg da chance 2c/eat it for years tho I went home every yr) Silly me was indeed shocked 2c da Fried variety when I was expectin da Cake variety w cream & a cuppa to top it off since it was tea time! NOW, if any1 say "carrot cake", i can only tink of fried rectangular dimsum variety@ restaurants or, egg-fried kind@ hawker ctr (these days i seldom tink of "dessert" carrot cake - thick cream fattening mah. Carbo in local carrot cake vs. Fat in dessert carrot cake, haha). Over da yrs, my Engrish oso deteriorated to Shingrish, sob! Hi Aural & Grrovygenie, Pros & Cons of hvg sunlight in our rooms: - Sunlight's good for our laundry (kills germs, smells great) but like Coco Mybibi, gotta install solar/protective film (my living & master rms get sunlight so, I seriously considered doin film 2protect curtains/furniture from discoloration/damage esp leather sofa. But I may drop idea altogether cos my curtains took away much light & I worry film makes rooms too dim Maybe I should pay Coco a visit.. My kitchen not much sunlight so I got a dryer for rainy dayz. Cool rms are great - less electricity consumption by aircons/fans but dun worry, laundry not necessarily a compromise. There're many laundry detergent brands w antibactirial agent in market. Worst case, dilute some dettol into wash. Wind & air take care of the rest : ) Hi Tenz, I reckon yr w/m & vac are the main attributors. Wat kinda elec heater? Elec blanket dun use much elec but heaters for a room do! (I hv used both fan & central heaters when studyin o/seas but I dun s'pose u use them in tis climate?). Oh dear.. I jus realise u must mean elec Shower heaters... sorry, dummy me (blame it on late hr)! Shower heaters dun consume tat much elec unless used by many ppl & long duration la. Meowie, Our hse area abt da same, occupants not much diff I reckon so, if ur not into too many elec appliances..., does tat mean I gonna get a similar bill amount lyk urs in da 1st mth? Hi Mapleleaf, Recess area in BR2/ BR3 - I agree w Carelinwen 2check out Ikea shelves. Also check out its low (height) cabinets. I browsed thru Ikea mag & saw various shelves & cabinets (those w wheels enable u 2pull out for sweeping/dusting purposes). I'm also interested to do up/utilise the recess areas. Only know frm my curtain measuremts their widths are 1.2m & 1.8m respectively. Must go there 2get exact dimensions. Do tell us what u intend 2do eventually : ) Oh dear! This is unfortunate.. I oso use gas so I can understand. While u may be frustrated tat kitchen carpentry work is halted, better to be save than sorry! It could jeopardise ur entire hse not jus ur kitchen. Tk Care, Drac! Hi Shivan & Wilreds2, I can understand both ur dilemma in pondering whether to sign/not, thereby indemnifying HDB of all damages. Lyk Wildreds, I oso tot any such fixtures & fittings like lifts, railings, lights etc outside our flats (ie. publicly acessed area) would fall under the jusrisdiction of HDB/ Town Council & as such, subsequent maintenance & replacement in the event of damage/theft remain their reponsibility.

Hi Redwyrm, Nah, not moved in yet, tis mth v.busy so wil jus make snap visits on & off. But painful on da pocket cos gotta pay for both places. I dunno HB play PS wat(gen). He's busy these days but can't ignore soccer when got kakis. We went w frens to Johore resort Sat mornin & evenin oredi playin PSP w his pal's teenage son, challengin ea other (1 a Liverpool fan, da other Man U, haha!) Teen ask HB to watch some game@ 2am but HB say no, too sleepyzz (Lucky other 3 fellas din go..these ppl waste hotel room$$. They told HB last time they used projector, flash onto wall & played compu games thru da nite!) Know wat Hb did nxt aftnn? Aft declining 2follow us (mostly women) in few cars 2shoppin ctr, he played soccer (wat else!) w pals & some youths. So Hb got good dose of soccer electronically & physically Traffic jam caused us 2reach 1+am yest so, after several late nites (& uncles dun wanna lose out2 youths soccer), he KO early tdy : ) I better get beauty sleep too.

Hi Carelinwen, We oso liked da Soundbar, very compact & minimum wires but switched to Sony for now cos hope to ride on da new blu ray wave later, if got $$. While I agree white light is stark, I use them for my kitchen (can check meat, food items better) & hv changed toilet lights from warm to cool/white (esp if I use mirror to do make up), oso makes toilet look brighter/bigger. Warm light I reserve for cosier areas like bedrms/ living. Ultimately stil ur own preference & depends on ur usage eg. warm lite if u wan cosy kitchen, toilets etc : )

Dracula, I so glad HB not online here cos he's playin his PSP now (he been wantin 2get da new slim/colorful PSP). So many big kid@ heart, frm Blk A, C & E, haha. Hi Howlupjac, I found I always gotta check switches 2-3x to ensure they're off cos supposed 2b in "ON" position (ie opp to living rm "OFF" position) jus b4 I leave hse, v troublesome! My electrician say cannot change cos 2-way switches operate lyk tat. When another electrician came to replace switches to dimmer, I complain da same (I know he's better than other guy cos both fixed lights for me b4, i jus repeat lyk "auntie" lor). He oso say cannot but frown a little then did it correctly for me ie. Both entrance & living switches are same now ie. OFF positions when I switch off b4 leavin hse, hehe Maybe their standard reply/lazy to swap cables. Try longwinded "auntie" tactic, who knows... Gui99 & Dracula, I oso currently watchin BYJ dvd!
