  1. It's Denden Town. It's not as fantastic as Akihabara but decent nonetheless.
  2. Looks like this hasn't moved for a while. Is this still alive? I'm moving to Clementi soon!
  3. Not the exact same ones that you show here but there are several curtain shops (2 I think) in Clementi Central which sell similar looking ones. You should give that place a shot.
  4. Thanks for this. I'll have them replaced then. Appreciate your comments. Has anyone encountered a situation where a whole row or section of your tiling work is hollow near the rubbish chute? Esp those located in old (30yr old) HDB estates? My bro thinks the area where a whole row of hollow tiles was discovered might just have been an unreinforced concrete section.
  5. In the midst of checking on the laying of the masonary work at my place now. The acid wash has already been completed. I've found quite a number of hollow sounding tiles. However, I'm unsure if I ought to replace them because: a) Some of them are located near a "hollow" area (e.g., rubbish chute). b) Some of them are located right in the middle of the house so the replaced tile will most certainly be super obvious, not to mention, uneven! c) Some of them (wall tiles) are located near an area which had previously been drilled (e.g., double power socket points). I checked some of the tiles near the other powerpoints but did not have similar problems of hollowness. I would like to ask if there is any safety danger of having hollow tiles on living room floors (Approx 1 full pc) and kitchen floor (3 areas, not whole piece is hollow) and kitchen walls (Approx 3 full pcs). If there is no real danger of tiles popping or cracking or falling off, then I might just get the contractor to give me a discount on the bad workmanship rather than to get him to re-do the tiles and delay my move. Can anyone offer any advise on this?
  6. In my opinion, this is a common problem faced with alot of old units. In all likelihood, your best bet is to use the appointed contractor by HDB to rectify the problem and split the cost 50-50 with the guy above you. In considering a flat, there are plenty of other more important issues to consider. The seepage may cause you alot of grief if not rectified but in the greater scheme of things, is an easy thing to resolve.
  7. I agree that doing your own painting enables you to identify plenty of mistakes which you should get the contractor to rectify before paying up in full. I did my own house painting and would have missed many little "lobangs" here and there as well as other "dents" in my wall if not for the painting. I compared their prices with about 7-8 other quotes and found them to be one of the most pricey. My suggestion is to get many quotes for a good comparison. Price doesn't always give a complete picture since there are other variables such as quality of materials, workmanship etc. Here's something I didn't understand though. Their official website is "The Interior Place". However, when I was given a quote by C**dy, it was issued under "The Interior House" letterhead. A quick check with HDB has thrown up that both are the same company/address/tel number. The good news is that both don't seem to accumulated any demerit points with HDB. Anyone can shed some light on the situation? Why similar names with same add? Confuses the consumer. (I didn't bother clarifying with them since I didn't go with them in the end.) Don't be too overly affected by the comments you read in the forum. These comments are merely that of the personal experiences of different individuals under different circumstances. Your experience may be very different. However, don't throw caution to the wind either since there is sometimes no smoke without fire. Anyway, contractors were one of the top 5 complaints lodged with CASE in the past few years. That basically just says the average Singaporean is probably not going to get along with their contractor/renovator.
  8. Yea. Actually my electrician has already given me the big rocker ones so I'm just trying to decide when he bills me for the difference, what the difference is. (The "upgrade" was agreed by my father. Didn't ask if there would be a price increase which I suspect, there probably will be.)
  9. Does anyone know what the average price of "upgrading" my switch plates from the regular ones to the slim/rocker type? The specific brand I'm asking about is MK. My electrician has yet to bill me the difference but want to be informed. Nice! I unfortunately can't get those. Resale old unit and therefore cannot really hide the base of all the switches. I wanted to get the champagned coloured Le Grande but realised if I did, I'd still have to spray paint the base.
