it is much neater & nicer in the mbr if there is false ceiling. Can put PLC downlights versus 1 round/rectangle/square lighting in the middle. I guess u have to strike a balance between aesthetics and practicality and risk haha. Can't have best in both worlds. My id said the risk factor is not too high coz condo all hidden trunking.. even if got problem. tear down that affected portion of the false ceiling and then later put it back.. just charge labour cost $80... -

Need Help In Home Entertainment System (sound Bar)
rumi replied to SLYW's topic in Electronics & Electricals
I am considering Philips HTS8140 (fit 42" tv) with subwoofer & integrated DVD player retailing at $1699 or Yamaha digital sound projector YSP-3000 (fit 32" TV) retailing at $1599 (free subwoofer depending on promo). Or paying much more at $2499 for Yamaha digital sound projector YSP-4000 (fit 42" TV) (free subwoofer depending on promo). I read review on cnet on Philips HTS8140 and it gets the same number of * as YSP-3000. The cost difference is only $100 less for Yamaha but no DVD player and is shorter in length. Or to pay a $800-$900 more for the longer YSP-4000 & better sound quality? Any advise please? -

i see that most of u folks are storage heater fans! haha.. i duno lah, i read that storage heater takes up too much electricity, also channel u save electricity programme that michelle & that guy duno what name, always give a BIG cross no no when she see storage heater in the house and minus points. anyway to each his own, maybe i should go one of ur place to try the rain shower storage heater then i might be convinced otherwise. hehe -

Shanabb, for me i have never used storage heater before & from my understanding it takes up more electricity to heat up the entire tank, got to wait longer & not to mention if u forget to switch off after shower it keeps on heating up. Imagine a hot storage tank above u when u are in the toilet or kitchen, sounds dangerous. My mum advised against it as we've been using instant heater all along. My bf house storage heater already spoilt, soon after they moved house and got it installed. now they shower cold water except for the young kid. .got to boil water manually...but maybe is just a one-off case. Don't worry about how additional piping got to be done for instant heater, the plumber will be doing it. Just ignore the existing concealed pts intended for storage heater, maybe next owner might want to use it. also is almost impossible to detect accurately how the piping is run concealed so don't touch it. If u don't mind the ugly gas piping in the kitchen area, then u can consider city gas, supposed to be cheaper than electricity and is a instant gas heater, no storage of water in any tank. Tariff for gas is much cheaper. this new model gas heater in kitchen can be used for 2 showers at the same time in 2 wc. I forgo this as I think my kitchen will look ugly, no pt since i hacked my kitchen tiles and change all to white. then got this grey gadget stick out 60cm down from the ceiling. for the part abt existing concealed piping for storage heater, actually not too sure if plumber will be touching it or leaving it alone to make way for instant heater.. anyway just leave it to a reliable plumber. -

after insisting on instant heater, now my id told me we can use instant heater lah but not used to installing it must ask plumber. maybe they earn some commission from selling storage heater, else why keep pushing for storage one. haha..just that the current mixer cannot be used for hot water lor. anyone hdb provides the water heater on/off switch, i thought that's for instant heater usage one? Currently, am using 707 alphine by triton at mum's place. Hot enough and good and have been using for many yrs, maybe 10 or more. currently considering 707 family heater with big spray head or the Alpha brand in black and white. Anyone used Alpha before? it looks more modern than the 707 one. -

Hi folks, anyone install INSTANT water heater inside each wc? I was told by my ID that the wc comes with installed cold n hot water mixer, so is difficult and advised me to get storage heater instead. But I do not want to get storage heater as is huge & takes up more electricity. I have enquired abt citygas water heater, but it has to be installed abt 40-60cm down from the ceiling and in direct view when i walk into the kitchen, I think it will not be that nice with the piping and view of the heater. -
BTW. the ones janitor uses in commerical buildings is usually called Euromop, i think is from italy.
-
hey leen, thanks for the contact, i shall go & take a look. The problem is I have a mentality that 1 cent 1 worth, if it is much cheaper elsewhere for the 'same' thing then why did the janitor company not buy the cheapest range from these companies since they need to buy in bulk and cost savings for them? I am thinking these buckets may not be as efficient or may break down easier or that the castors will easily scratch the floor. Nevertheless I will go take a look before deciding, if the quality looks the same, maybe I will buy the cheaper one. Thanks.

does this Leifheit brand mop works. my mum said not clean one coz cannot reach the edges.. and said traditonal yarn mop is the best. Have u wondered why the janitors and cleaners still use the good old white yarn mop? The mop bucket trolley that they use to wring dry the yarn mop is not cheap. I managed to locate the company who supplies this and was told that the smallest size MINI mop bucket trolley with wring is $144

But # of applications on the 1st day already exceed total # units avail. Quickly sell before the property market crash. -

#16 floor corner-slanted unit now cost 310K .. april #15 was 280,000 " the difference b/w #16 & #15 is abt $30K and maybe more since higher 1 level. + $30K more from april ballot vs July..07 so the unit is effectively $30K + $30K = abt $60K+ more! This is crazy! i wonder if next time the younger couples can afford anymore new or resale HDB flats. -
depends on whether u get a invertor aircon and the tehnical specs of the insulator and copper piping and water piping. invertor aircon needs thicker trunking box due to thicker insulator.. if u got the thinner one, highly likely to leak due to condensation.

$270 for 1 wc or 2? laminate or wire glass. Depends on the model of the KDK fan too. yah i forgot my id quoted me $360 not $380, but is as a contract package, so if just want to do window, may not be able to get this price. -

Hey neighbours, Anyone tore away the living/dining ugly timber skirtings and just do paint touch up? OR is it not possible to remove without replacing another skirting as there might be some gaps between floor tiles and skirting? Anyone hack away the bedrooms door frame? -
Ventilation Exhaust Fan Installation For Toilet ?
rumi replied to tientien's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
I feel that laminated glass look neater & nicer. The inner wires complicates the look of the window. I just called central alum and was quoted per change of 1 wc window in 1 toilet at $120 for wire glass & $180 for laminated glass for my case of 1 column of window in each wc only. Jasmine told me that laminated frosted glass can also be used in hdb & easier to clean also. The price of 8" 20WUD KDK fan from Hong Kwang is $69.55 after GST So it would be $120 x 2 + $69.55 x 2 = $379.1 for wire glass & $180 x 2 + $69.55 x 2 = $499.1 for laminate glass. I think my ID is cheaper. -

i was told by my ID that through past experience, they haveproblem trying to drill a hole into the wire glass, so is easier to use a laminated glass and laminated glass is also approved. nots ure who to believe Is wire glass more expensive than laminated glass? Just in case they try to earn my money.. I thought laminated glass look nicer/neater/cleaner than wire glass.
