Hi all... I would like to change my front metal gate. Anyone has any recommendation? Is there a type of gate whereby the key cannot be replicated? Thank you.

Hi.. I did a full length day/night curtain in my bedroom, 2 sets of roller blind for my living room as there are 2 windows (1 is about 3m+, the other think around 2m). Total is $660. Not doing other windows as they are already 100% block out kind of panel....

I ordered curtain and roller blinds from Mr Chew on Saturday. He is a very nice and patient person... I wanted to forget about him initially as I have made a few calls to him to make an appointment, but he will always say that he'll call me back but didn't... Anyway, he managed to call me on Friday night and said he'll come to my place at 10.30am on Sat. I said ok as I prefer the person to come to my place, so that I can take the sample and make comparison at my home.... Anyway, Mr Chew is a very nice and helpful guy. I was installing a shoe cabinet with my father when he reached my place. He saw us having trouble to drill the last hole on the wall as there's some metal pillar behind... He went to take his heavy duty drill without us asking, he came back and drill that hole for us... I also wanted to stop installing the shoe cabinet when he came, so that I will not waste his time waiting for me to view the curtain samples.. He is very nice and asked me to finish the installation first.... He even helped us a little too... Such small gestures and going an extra mile in customer service really mean a lot to me... I decided to engage him to make my curtain / roller blinds without looking at any other curtain shops... and I don't really care if the price is expensive or reasonable.. Mr Chew is highly recommended to you guys (base on his service as I have not receive his product yet ...)

I was at Furniture mall yesterday. I got a shoe rack from Star Furniture, the sales staff is very nice and she make u feel comfortable walking around in the shop. Then I went to Novena... The sales person is very helpful too, make me feel very comfortable and not pushy to ask me buy anything from them. I got a bookcase from Novena in the end. I also went to Lorenzo and wanted to get a side table, it is cash n carry and I found some chips on it.. The sales person said it is like that and they can touch up... Though she is quite friendly... I find it kinda shock that she said that... My wife don't want to get a defected item so we didn't get it in the end... The sales girl told me there is another bigger branch at Sims drive and asked me to go n see, there could have more pieces and can get perfect quality one... By the way... Novena and Nova are 2 different companies right? I try to search for any review on Novena but couldn't find... Anyway, both items will be delivered to my place tomorrow, hope they don't screw me up...

Thanks for all the comments Jessie: You can go to Hafary to check out the mosiac tiles... they sold in small quantities. The showroom are at (1) No.15 Defu Ave 1, Tel: 62501368. (2) 560 Balestier Rd, tel: 62501369. Website is www.hafary.com.sg Applefreak: Hee.. I got the Audrey Hepburn canvas print-out from Ikea... By the way, here's the pic of my doggy.. Face become white cos of old age... Took the pic while I was painting the bedroom. Purposly painted rays of lights around him... Heee.. terazzo: You mean the ceiling light that look like fried egg? I got it from Chan Huat but they only have yellow colour and the small 15" size.. But this is exactly what I want. If you walk around other shops @ Balestier, you can see bigger and other colour ones... Prettibride: Don't think he allow me lah... I don't wanna break his heart too.. I think he spent like $60k on reno last time lah.. and I am removing a lot of what he done last time...

4) Cleaned up the cabinet and the stuff inside was minimal.... I have also changed the knobs into wooden type so that it looks better. A new TV was placed on top of the new platform.. Heee... 5) Here comes the wallpaper... but of cos this is not DIY cos I never apply wallpaper before.. I have also changed the cushion seat into red PVC.... 6) DIY changing the PLC lights 7) The cabinet top is spoiled due to the rain and sun... so I'm gonna use mosiac to put onto the cabinet top, but I have yet to get the right mosiac for this DIY task... 8) A new clock and a new fan.... I just love it OK... It's already 3.40am now... Gonna stop and get some sleep... Contractor coming to install the new wardrobe tomorrow morning...

Ok... I think I will cut things short of what I did for my living room.. Pictures speak a thousand words, so I post the "Before and After" pics of my 95% DIY refurbish flat... Still not 100% done yet as there are some more DIY arty farty stuff... but I am working on my bedroom currently, and will stop everything on 31 Jul as 1 Aug is the opening of **** gates... 1) Shoe cabinet with glass carving is gone... The white wall behind will be where my wife and myself gonna paint the wall mural.. but we are still working on the design.... The 2 white side table will be converted into mosiac tiles look, it's gonna be DIY too, but don't have time to do it currently. 2) Paintings gone!!! 3) Mirror gone.. and here comes Audrey Hepburn.... The dinning table belongs to my father, kept it cos it looks so retro... It suppose to have 6 chairs, but I kept the other 2 in the store room as it looks better in 4s

Here's something I got recently... 1) Retro flipping wall clock.. I just love this clock cos it look so cool... 2) Retro russian phone... Looks cool too.. but I haven't change the plug to local chord yet, so it still cannot be used... 3) A ceiling light that looks like fried egg... Simply love this too... will put it in my living room 4) This light is very cool.. It looks like a death star from star wars, or a disco light.. this is gonna be fixed onto my bedroom ceiling.. Actually I have just fixed it today n it looks **** good.. but I will update it when I finish updating my living room 5) This is the mosiac tiles that I will be using for my side table. Still don't have time to do it, and I will be flying to US soon...

I have cleaned up the cabinet and it looks brand new... even though I did not lacquer it again... I have also thrown away the old TV since it is not working anymore.. and added a platform there for my new 40" full HD LCD TV. I have asked contractor to remove the mirror, and added a plywood there.. wallpaper will be applied on it after that. I have also asked the contractor to remove the shoe cabinet with glass carving...

The sanding of the putty was really hard work.. Luckily my wife borrowed a sanding machine for me to use.. else I will sure die if I use my bare hand to sand it off... Anyway, these are the pics of the wall after the putty was sanded off and a coat of primer was applied... The sanding was really horrible as my whole house was dusty with fine white particles... At that point of time, I thought the wall looks good and flat, but I was wrong after I painted the walls with colour, I could still see the "protruded putty" after I sanded it off... Well.. I guess I am not pro enough, it's my first time doing it anyway, and probably the last.. Heee...

I'm back here again after a hard day work doing up my house... Anyway, I spoke to my father about changing the cabinet colour to black, but he seems reluctant though he never say so, so I just keep it that way lah.. No choice.. Don't wanna make an old man unhappy... Anyway Applefreak.. That's my doggy!! It's a mini pinscher... Think he's like about 10 yrs old.. It's getting old now... but still as cute as ever though his reflexes have slow down.. Anyway, here's some pics of the process of refurbishing a few months back.. I did it quite slow cos I only do it once a week, maximum twice a week.. Kinda tired to do it after work lah.... All paintings and mirror were removed and the holes were filled up with putty. The horizontal strip design was also removed... As the super glue left marks and also tore off the paint, I used putty to cover up those ugly marks...

Ok.. For the start.. I will put some pics of my house before any furbishing is done.... Lots of old furnitures have already thrown away.... This is what you see when you first step into my house... My father stick a DIY wallpaper onto the mirror cos he think that it is bad luck when a mirror is facing the front door directly. And I wonder why he did such kind of reno last time.. Hmmm That structure is a shoe cabinet with a glass carving.. Don't like it cos it block out the sunlight.. The door at the side is the main front door. My father DIYed the strips 10 years ago... Gonna remove it... but I felt so bad as my father put in a lot of effort at that time. Chinese and oil painting... Need to go!!! Don't like it but can't throw... Mirror... Definitely need to go too... This is the cabinet I hate most... Totally out of fashion but I have to keep it cos it was made of good and expensive wood and my father wanna keep it. Anyway, I will do a major clean-up for it...

Hi all.. I juz ROM in Mar 08, been trying to look for a new flat since last year but was in vain. The queue number that I got from BTO and walk-in selection were so large that I am not able to select a flat. Thus, me and my wife decided to refurbish the flat that I am staying currently and plan to stay for a few years... Anyway, I have been staying alone in the north for the past 10 years... Me and my wife actually don't like the area here but then it was my father who got the flat last time.. He spent a bomb for the reno during that time... However, the style is so "ah peh" and outdated and we didn't like it at all.... Thus, I asked my father for permission to refurbish the house... He agreed but there were many things which he felt "heart-broken" to remove, so I have to keep most of the items in order not to make him feel sad and to respect him..... Therefore, since there were so many old-fashion things that I couldn't remove, I will try to make my house theme as "RETRO". I started DIY the whole house on 31 Mar 08. It has been almost 4 months since I started refurbishing it, and only now then I decided to create a T-Blog here. Anyway, I will post pics later.. In the mean time, I need to go Balestier and collect 2 of my ceiling lights, follow by making the final payment of my simmons mattress now. Be right back guys... Heee...
