  1. Not sure for private property but all new HDB flats have window installed except for the service yard and the balcony. If you install lourve window at your service yard, then you cannot put your laundry out. For replacement of window, there is a limitation. All types of window, components use and sizes are all under control. You can only choose the type of window for the specify place listed in the HDB web when you submit your application. Get your HDB registered contractor to log in to HDB E-submission web for you to see more info.
  2. There's alot of high gloss paint like IC, bordelac, Causeway paint etc. These are more for painting metal or timber, it is a turpentine base paint. To paint timber with glossy and good protection surface, the epoxy paint should be the best choice.. The harden surface finishing is like those knock off furniture in painting finishing. Remember to totally remove your existing painting as maybe your brown colour refer to varnishing finishing which normally has a layer of lacquer which is spirit base or thinner base. .
  3. 4m x 5m is so much bigger than the HDB"s standard room size. Can't believe its only $10/- I think better delete my supplier's contact.
  4. Wood staining should be using a pc of clothe to rub the soluble dye onto the wood like ash ply. After a few prodcedure of staining and sanding, a layer of lacquer is apply either using brush or air brush to get a glossy finishing or just leave it in matt finishing. Shellac is flake dissolve into methylene for varnishing onto smoother surface as in teak ply. The finishing is glossy. You can get those ready to use, both wood stain and shellac at the paint shop.
  5. I ever heard from my contractor, even on laying of ceramic tiles, tiles need to sort out according to sizes and the print as well. Same as in carpentry work, the grains and the colour tone of the ash ply should be as close as possible for stain wood finishing.
  6. Not working for quite years, isn't aware the co is no longer in operation.

  13. If u have a big entrance like mine - W1200mm, the 3 panels sliding door is more practical. 3 panels of 1200mm is about 400mm wide per pc. Slide all to the left or all to the right, u have a broad entrace of 800mm or to the centre.
  14. Replacement of postform top is not difficult, just remove the screw and the silicon sealing but fixing of sink & stove is quite troublesome. U can get postform top from hardware shop or direct from laminate Co. about $200/- for a lenght of 13ft. It is better for u to order from furniture fabricator as u need to cut to sizes and the opening of holes. PM u a contractor to check with.

  18. I'm a maid without pay. , currently still looking for job. I love DIY and maintenance work like trouble shooting phone, fax machine, copier, fan and most of the power tools - applying some of the knowledge gain while working in the electronics manufacturing sector for some yrs. From my working experiences in the furniture manufacuring sector, I more or less know some basic woodwork. In carpentry work, the front panel of the drawer is normally laminated then screw together - from the inside of the drawer.
  19. Actually u should make a base - about 2" high - it got its uses like levelling & make the cabinet more rigid. U should also do the marking of the runner on both the cabinet & drawer before assembling to get a good alignment. Lastly, a jig saw is more practical than the trimmer u bought.
  20. Maybe is china plywood or maybe is contractor uses 2 thin sheets of plywood to sandwich the left over strip.
  21. Just click onto the provided link & register an account. I try it as I did not have an account earlier on.
  22. There's some forumers with good recommendation of their carpentry contractor, so maybe can ask them for help.
  23. In carpentry workshop, table saw is use for cutting full size - 4 ft x 8ft plywood and laminate. There is special tool for cutting small stripe of lamainate like 20mm width for edging. Router is use for trimming. File is sometime use if they have the skill - u got to hold the file at certain degree to file the edges. U only choice is to use NT cutter. After cutting, sand the edges. Application of adhesive glue is not easy and sticking the laminate to plywood without trap bubbles is not simple too. U need a pc of laminate with 'teeth' to apply glue. When u stick the glued laminate onto the plywood, place a pc of laminate in between.
