  1. Hello guys, BTW this company claim to be an Accredited Member of PRCA. That is indeed wonderful when youu read their Code of Ethics. However, I am in the belief that PRCA does not exist, cos my search on the net & thru this Forum has yielded no results. Please correct me if I am wrong, but PRCA is a fake organisation or perhaps CP=PRCA (at least they share 2 letters). What am I talking about? Look here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...c=12964&hl= Whether it is fake or not is not important. As long as they live up to their principles, code of ethics or whatever they proclaim, then we will happily recommend this company. Unfortunately, they have not up till today refused to respond to my calls & enquiries & emails. So I will have to Highly Un-Recommend this company.
  2. The Bangla quite happily take them away cos these are recyclable materials & worth something. BTW, Aljunied TC offer free service of bulk disposal of old furniture.
  3. I've been using a LG front load washer for 3yrs now.. There was some initial teething probs but its fine after that. Only downside is that the wash cycle is long - more than 70mins.... waste time, waste water, waste electricity The spin dry is good 1000rpm
  4. Yes, I got the GRY55SDE version on Feb 22 and it does the same thing. Basically the fridge dont encourage you to re-open immediately after you close the door. Yes the suction is especially strong. We have no problem with it. I suppose that is a energy saving feature & we like it. I am surprise the Toshiba people are not aware of this!
  5. Hi Lyn, A relative just hand me down her old Rainbow. Its not been working for sometime & it needs some attention. How do I get in touch with a Rainbow representative? I would appreciate if you could give me the contact. Thanks
  6. Hi Calicojane, Thank you for the useful information. So what did u get eventually & from where? I am surprise to know that you could get them cheaper than the sole agents. I am looking for fans with lights.
  7. Just to share with you my experience. My furniture contractor asked me what I plan to do with the old wardrobe. They could dispose for me at $200. I bargained and got it at $150. So they dismantled the wardrobe & brought it down to the lift landing & went on to install my new wardrobe. After the job is done, they just left. I called them about the wood planks & they told just me that the bangla will take care of them. Gosh! I paid them $150 just to dismantle. Disposal is by the Town Council.
  8. Hi! Would you mind to name this exhorbitant ID for the benefit of other members? If this is his modus operandi by preying on the fear or ignorance of consumers then you would save others alot of grief later.
  9. Hi! If you can settle for simpler paint like Matex or Maxelite, white ceiling and one colour for the rest of the walls, then you could get it as low as $600. More colors cost more. If you need to have the doors & the pipes in the house painted, then these are additional charges. If you want wash&wear, or vinilex, super vinilex, or odorless etc, the cost adds up & up. If you call up the painters in the ST classifieds, you have to be very specific with the type of work you want, the paint quality, the coverage and most important, insist on the warranty, a written one preferably.
  10. Hi Keltong, What do painters do? Paint of course. What do Citypainters do? Citypainters say on their website: We specialise in what we do., We deliver what we promise. You'll never be surprised. Your project is handed by a professional. They also say they are able to troubleshoot problem areas like blistering & solved by scraping, sandng and repainting. (All these can be found on their website) They claim on their website they are a ACCREDITED MEMBER OF PRCA so they promise to (1) To provide the services of our trade to the best of our ability. (2) To be honest in providing the most efficient services, using the best of our knowledge of the materials and methods used for every of our clients and projects Citypainters are expected (1) To execute all operations as accordance to the highest professional and industrial standards. (2) To uphold our integrity and honesty in our obligations and contracts to (with) our consumers. (italics are quotes taken from their website) The Boss, told me, when he visited the flat that the old paint blisters in the bathroom ceiling would be resolved easily. Well, his men did a cosmetic touch up & so when I called the Boss about the paint continuing to peel & blister, he told me that his painters only know how to paint & it is beyond their scope to manage problem areas like this. He then went defensive & told me he does not want to engage in a debate. Wah! He asked me to send him an email & that was the end of it. He never replied my emails & does not return phone calls & if he picks up the phone, his answers are curt. The irony of it is on his website he says "he realised that the market is offering shoddy painting services ... Since then, City Painters Inc. have been offering quality painting services ." Dont trust everything you read. Get second opinions from elsewhere.
  11. Dear All, Just be aware that what you see is not what you get. They may advertise regularly, their website maybe glitzy, their testimonials may be plenty and their claims of technical expertise may be entensive, or they have an impressive Code of Ethics. ALL THESE DOESNT MEAN A THING!. Whatever their claims, do remember that they will forget what they say, or that the content of their website is alien to them, so you should always get them to put their quality assurance down in writing. Better still, get a warranty for the work done if you can. Not many people do this becuase they think they are dealing with honest & reliable & responsible service providers. Because, sometime, a couple of days or weeks later, after the money has been paid, you might notice or realise a shortfall in the quality of workmanship but you can never get the workers to make good the problems. Basically, the costs may be minimal to be worth the effort or trouble for a recourse. If you could, then you may have to do your own touch up but if the job is terrible, then you may have to rework the entire thing at your own expense & inconvenience. This could happen just because you didnt get their quality assurance & guarantee down in writing. Then again, would they honour this piece of paper? Their business may be so good that they dont give 2 hoots to you. Not many people read Renotalk & problem companies like this perpetuate & proliferate.
  12. Hi! I was looking to get window grilles just for my Balcony and the first place I would look for naturally was the classified ads. Well, here are some of the adverts for window grilles that you can find in the saturday's ST classifieds: 3 room $233, 4 room $333, 5 room $433, (no name) or 3 room $288, 4 room $388, 5 room $488, (WellMax) or 3 room $220, 4 room $320, 5 room $420 (1st Grade) and so on. Or Aluminium Grilles $3psf, or $4 psf etc When I ask for quotation for my balcony window, I am quoted $250-$320 for 52 sq ft for a single sliding. I am flabbagasted. When I asked about their adverts, I am told the price is for small windows, fixed size windows, no sliding etc... Oh, ok.. So I got a few of them to come down to do measurement & actual quotation and what I get is a vastly different price of $420-$500 and I am given the similar excuses and reasons. $3 is for contractors & no retail. So why they advert $3 for psf when we dont get to enjoy the price? I must be naive or am I missing something here?
  13. Hi All, The reason why I am pursuing this matter is because one Painter Company in Singapore, purportedly a member of this elusive Association which have such lofty ideals, broadcast to the world that it is an Accredited Member & it too operate its business with such worthy principles. I was foolish enough to be taken in by their promise & their so called testimonials, so I engaged their services. However, this is not what happened & the work didnt even turn out satisfactory. So I am hoping to refer to the Association for some recourse to make good the poor workmanship as the company does not want to listen to my plight nor even bothered to reply my emails. Any help is appreciated. Any suggestion from moderators ? Thank you Bert
  14. Hey all, Look, I found this Code of Ethics. 15. Hello all, Uh, still no comments from members or from the industry about the Painting And Refurbishing Contractors’ Association? I saw on one website the PRCA's Code of Ethics . their list of Obligation of the Contractor and Obligation to the Consumer and I am impressed. So I am seeking for other painting contractors in Singapore who are also members. Any help or information is appreciated Thanks
  16. Hi keltong! You friend is lucky.. he is satisfied with the work... You are lucky cos the boss was too busy to get back to you, so you didn't use them. I wasnt too lucky cos, he seems like a nice guy when he came to my flat & so I engaged his services, and unlike your friend I not satisfied with the work at all. You are right about ONE thing - the boss is an extremely bz guy and does not have the time or... to help me resolve the painting problems. bert
  17. Hi there! Has nobody got any comments or information of this association? Or is this the right forum or slot to ask? The reason is I want to find whether there are other painting contractors in Singapore who are also members of this Association. Thanks for your comments. bert
