  1. There are members here in RT that incorporate Blum mechanism for their kitchen cabinets. You may want to read them in the Reno t-Blog Chat thread.
  2. Another effective way to reduce our electricity bill is to unplug the switches from the sockets when not in use. Yes, it may sound troublesome but it has been proven to reduce bills. Savings are rather substantial. Especially for computer printers - they are a 'vampire'.
  3. About gas cylinder Using gas cylinder is new to me. I was told by friends that the temperature on the cylinder tank will give an indication of the level of gas available. When your stove is running, ie you are cooking something, place your palm on the tank. There will be a difference in temperature. Where it is cold, that is why the gas is.
  4. The one thing we learned from our renovation blues is to have a list for outstanding works. Our renovation stretched kinda too long. Had to pay rental as we could not move in on the first agreed date. Understandable that we wanted to have a nice place, with everything up to expectation before handover. To strike a balance, and to keep a good working harmony with our ID, the only choice was for us to sit down and go through the outstanding renovation works together. We insisted for this meeting. It was during the discussion that we got to know her problems too. The meeting will set a deadline to everything. We got our ID to get a committed date, after her liaison with the contractors on the spot. Important, is to have the list - with both parties keeping a copy. Do take care, familyof4.
  5. I second this. A good contractor will provide it - it is their job to do so. Just insist for it.
  6. Sorry to hear about the post reno, smallboy. These are works done by our tilers for our floor homogenous tiles, just before the handover: 01. Initially, the tilers used steel wool [which we can get it at any provision shop] to rid off any kind of stains. They used some kind of liquid [i believe most contractors will have it - probably acid]. Manually, it was too slow and tedious. 02. Because we were in a hurry to move in, the tilers used machine instead and polished the whole area. 03. For our matte black tiles [in Guest n MBR toilets], they polished with some form of 'oil' coating. Once polished, we were not allowed to use the areas. This coating must be fully dried otherwise it will give stains. For corian top, I believe you need to polish it with Lemon Pledge. Wipe [do] it in circle.
  7. newnyew, Sorry for the wrong info. My glass panels are not stick to any wood. It is just clear glass painted with white paint. For a non-clear glass on white paint, the result will be greenish. How it was done: [We also have the glass as our kitchen back splash] Kitchen Wet and Dry Area: Guest Toilet: We are not sure about the damp problem. It was never highlighted to us and hopefully, it will not cause us problem in the long run. Hopefully, we both can get feedback for other RT members on this subject. My apologies newnyew, this weekend kenna booked liow.
  8. Haha - yup, infact, it is the place for my morning coffee and reading newspaper Must show pic of your kitchen! - I am sure it is nice too.
  9. Yup, they are glass panels with screws. We had our contractor to stick a clear glass onto a white painted wood. Maintenance is easy. Just wipe with wet cloth.
  10. I am sorry to hear about your CTS. I believe reiki energy can help. As its energy is subtle, the healing is also gradual. Meanwhile, and with respect, to change the paradigm of thought will help towards healing. Metaphysically, for CTS, patients are often asked to internalize this phrase into their life: "I now choose to create a life that is joyous and abundant. I am at ease" Try it, newnyew.
  11. Hi newnyew, First, haha, *high five* to an OCD pal. Thanks for the compliment, and many more thanks for reading the blog. My heartfelt gratitude for reading about Ruby too. Yes, we are praying that she is well over at the other end. Simply, Reiki is another form of alternative healing. To me, it is another form of TCM without the herbs There are just too many to write, or talk, about it. Is there any area specifically that you are keen to find out? Regards.
  12. How about a gradual ram? Think, this is a 'friendlier' way for old age.
  13. Congrats on the completion, fondue and wifey. Nice place. Re the Rinnai cooker hob, yes it is a good buy. Food tend to cook faster. I am sure fondue will enjoy cooking alot more now.
  14. When we shifted, we were recommended Renewal Self-Development movers. Basically, it is to support the Yellow Ribbon Project. It is understandable if we are feeling wary about them but they did rather pretty good job. The supervisor was friendly and made sure that all our barangs were taken care. We packed our own stuffs. Bought bubblepak separately to wrap delicate/fragile items. In my opinion, their charges were rather reasonable. From central area to JE with two diversions, we were charged $200 + $60.
  15. When installing LED, you need to be aware of the transformer that comes with it. Some transformer can be bulky and need the ID/joiner to work with you as how to hide it. Otherwise, it can be an eye sore. Yes, it is usually just a thin strip. It can be bright.
  16. Lobang for you - Alternatively, you might want to consider AC Ryan Digital Life gadget. Saw on saturday STimes that Courts are having sales for one of the AC Ryan products [with HDMI] - from $399 to $249. Carrefour at $299 with [i think] gear sonic 2.1 speakers. AC Ryan Products - http://www.acryan.com/index.php?option=com...2&Itemid=98 Can easily watch all your movies on your TV with this gadget
  17. And the 'fun' and excitement have started! Nice layout of flat, rolexboy. Which part of north eh? and how big is the house?
  18. Very tastefully done!!!! and so clean and neat!
  19. Yup, it is possible for them to store for you. I ordered mine in june 08 and delivered in oct and we kept changing the delivery date in between.
  20. Re Sofa We finally found our L-shaped sofa at Furniture Club. And, this is the big surprise - we actually got a very good discount when we went to the branch at Furniture Mall, Beach Road. We were lucky that we didn't make the order at their Sungei Kadut branch. Re Mattress Not sure if Simmons is your preference. Just happen to pass by TradeHub 21 along Boon Lay Way, saw that Ackerman & Smith [for Simmons Beds] is having a closing down sale there. Guess, they are closing this branch.
  21. First, my apologies to fondue to hijack this thread posting about Blum For those wanting to see Blum system, other than at Blum's factory in Ubi, there is one at Toto Showroom along Bukit Timah Road [near to KK Hospital]. Blum's hardware/parts can be bought through Blum's authorised reseller. Shops that are selling them usually will have "Blum Dealer" sticker. One shop that was highlighted here in Reno before is Kiang Sing Hong @ Upper Bukit Timah.
  22. Basically, the Blum mechanism/technology, particularly the BluMotion, it is a soft close technology. With just a light touch, they close silently and effortlessly. Ikea has also introduced such technology. The TandemBox is Blum construction for drawers, inner drawers, high fronted pullouts and inner pullouts. It also includes drawers for cutlery and kitchen utensils Blum Tandembox Video Another Blum mechanism that is highly recommended [should you are already into Blum] is the Aventos system. Blum Aventosen Video I guess the main uniqueness of Blum is the easy to open mechanism and the soft closing technology. We can actually get Blum parts and get our carpenter to integrate them. It is cheaper this way rather than to have full Blum System.
  23. For rainshower to work effectively, the water pressure must be good. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose.

    Our Home

Yes, we built a cabinet, perpendicular to the rubbish chute, to store the cylinder gas. Actually, if our toilet is big like yours, we would probably have the washing machine in the bathroom. I have a friend who does that - cleverly designed away from the 'wet' area inside the bathroom.
  25. Blum works well for people who tend to 'bang' closing drawers/cabinet doors. Hehe, it actually can 're-program' a person to be gentle. So far, all the blum mechanism in the house is working well. As my kitchen wardrobe is not a full Blum system [we only get the mechanism], we had to 'test' all the drawers after our joiners fixed them. There was one drawer that didn't work and the mechanism got to be replaced. No, we didnt get the dividers. Personally, I think it is just waste of money. Kinda ironical, to me it restricts storage planning and it can look rather cluttered. I am sure you and your wife will enjoy the system
