  1. It is good to take note of this wall in the future like no knocking of nails. Nice progress.
  2. I have always like reading this Forum, though my renovation was some seven years ago. It had always been, and still is, very informative. It is a place where we get to share, learn and 'letting steam off' when reno works are not going well. It helps the renovation process easier. In a community with the same objective, it renders to uplift the joy of owning a home. Getting a theme for a house is uniquely personal. It can possibly be one man's meat is another man's poison but that does not mean there's a standard definitive right thing Taste, afterall, is individualistic exclusive. Taste often follows the flow of time and simply trending to stay relevant. Is it "freaking boring" and "nauseating"? Aren't we all unique individuals with different preferences? The bottom-line is about affordability and one has to be realistic about it. What's paramount is the joy - the energy of the house and Home-Sweet-Home, that owners feel/get. While theme can differ, choosing for the right renovation materials is all about reliability. Blum/Groher/Hansgroher is about reliability and performance. It is not about "doing the same thing that its beginning to be nauseating". What can be nauseating is when a product that immediately fails just after few months, just so to speak. Perhaps, the words "freaking boring" and "nauseating" are inappropriately used considerin: a. The costs of renovation that's usually a big concern for many of us here. b. When such renovation materials are deemed bona fide, reliable and trending accordingly to the time. Just my thoughts.
  3. I think the 22k BTU should be able to cool down the area. The only thing, when it is switched on, you probably have to close all other bedrooms so that the temperature is contained.
  4. With so much hacking, I am sure your house will look and feel spacious. To me, it is a good reno choice. Looking forward to see the transformation towards your beautiful home.
  5. I agree with Ahyong that it is possible to change the wc position. It is how the ID works with the plumber/contractor. I just love EM!
  6. I guess the open concept is not something many can accept but it makes the whole MBR looks spacious, IMO. Somehow, with such open concept, the showering steam is negligible - hardly noticeable. I do get what you mean, say when we are taking shower in the hotel and the door is closed, the showering steam will 'fill' the whole mirror. The floor outside the shower area is not wet nor moist after our showers.Your bf, IMO, did a good analysis to how the aircon would be utilized. If I can re-do my airconditioning system, I would like to place the biggest BTU in the living room and second biggest in the MBR.
  7. Wow! I like your detailed sharing here. Definitely will keep this in mind. Anyway, happy reno!
  8. Many thanks, and my apologies, to those who are still asking for the contact of my ID. Very seldom that I logged in here - perhaps, it has been so many years since the renovation. Still, I am thankful to this Forum. I feel it is best to record it here. My ID is no longer doing renovation as she has gone back to her profession as an architect. However, I may be able to supply contacts for my electrician, carpenter and aircond men. To-date, these people are still providing their services whenever I need them. To those renovating, have fun!
  9. Nice reno, EMinlove! Your hubby did the right thing, it is always good to have few plugs at the study area. As is, there'll always be so many devices that need plugs at the study. I always prefer to have dedicated plug for each device and to avoid extension cords to declutter the area. As in the DIY Bird cages (an interesting DIY), how about leave them for now until the whole house is furnished? I guess you will have a better idea when all the bulky items are in place and how you can go about highlighting the bird cages. Hehe, just my 2 cents
  10. I don't think it is an industry practice. Plus, I am not sure the reason for leaving it 'bare' is meant for expansion/contraction. All my doors are not left 'bare' and it has been 5 years plus and they are still well (no expansion/contraction). *touch wood* though.
  11. Applaud to a well thought reno, Rover. Nicely done up.
  12. Hi Rachiees, It is a pleasure to share and 'Thank You' for reading my blog. Will PM you ID contact. Happy reno, Rachiees.
  13. Sorry for the late reply, JJWOOF and 'Thank You' for your kind compliments. I do not have the code for all the laminates in the house as it was chosen by ID. She only showed us her final selected sample/color (based on our color preference) for our approval. The main laminate in the living room and the kitchen is white. The only difference is the quality. As told by ID, those in the living/dining area is more glossy - perhaps, piano white - and that when edges are joined, there will be no obvious black lines. The white laminate in the kitchen is less superior; hence, black joining lines are obvious. Maintenance is easy - just regular wiping with damp cloths - and I must say, after 4 years, they is still no discoloration.
  14. Sorry for the late reply, star70. Will PM you all the details.
  15. Wow, it is nice to see New's reno works. Do send my regards to her, Delusion. Your house is well done!
  16. I have PMed you, ThomasL. Hope you will be able to find a suitable ID for your reno. Regards, Reiki
  17. Hey there Cavalier, Nice to hear from you and hope that you guys are fine We just got back from BKK (again!). Pretty hot there. Got our air-cond contractor to come down immediately on our return to check the problems. Guess what? There is no gas leak!! The equipment that installed to gauge the leakage didn't show any drop. While checking the compressor, he found out a loose nut and had it tightened. Hopefully, this is the cause of the problem. Not sure how can this happen but guess, it has to do with wear and tear. For now, we just have to monitor. The good news there will be no repairs and there will be no 'mini' renovation. The bad news we will not run the LAN cables since there is no renovation. Yes, it is the same air-cond contractor. Have been using them for the quarterly servicing too. Must say service is good. Will PM you his contact number. Regards, Reiki
  18. The dreadful period has come! :furious: I believe this is the part where many homeowners will dread especially for those who did boxing-up/concealment. After three-and-half years, our air-cond unit has started to give problem. Gas seems to be leaking. There are two ways to solve this problem. 01. Fill up gas every now and then (which probably cost about $30 each time) or 02. Fix the root problem In our case, we have decided to choose option 2. Though it is a permanent solution, unfortunately it involves a lot of tearing down. We are taking the opportunity to get our air-cond guys to come later to fix the test to determine which unit is affected, since we will be out of town tomorrow. What they will do is to fix some kind of instrument at the compressor. Once it is fixed, the air-cond cannot be used for at least three days. We hope it is our MBR unit that is having the problem. This will minimize the 'reno' works. Should it be elsewhere in the house, guess it will be back to renovation. Then, we might even get to wire LAN cables for our fibre broadband from the living to study to run inside the false ceiling. Thankfully, our ID has agreed to oversee the works. Pardon our obiang Bed area: Affected renovation areas: If the affected air-cond unit is not at MBR, the Dining Area will be affected. Stay tuned.
  19. Hi Hyper_rev, Sorry for the late reply. Thank You for the compliments. Have PMed you the info. Regards.
  20. Hi paloma, Your reno is tastefully done .. I love the brightness of your house. The wooden frame around your kitchen entrance, even while the pic was taken during reno, is such About the cleaners, my ID arranged the professional services of Unique Cleaning & Maintenance Services. Looking back, I am glad I had them to do the house cleaning before the move-in. Good service.
  21. Hi LynZie, It is such a good read going through your T-blog at this hour. First, may I congratulate you and your family on the reno. Hope you are not tiring yourself and please do take care since, I believe from your opening thread, you are into your 8th month with your 4th child. At the same time, I do hope that your hubby is not seriously injured too. About the gap, I guess you should not worry too much. With the false ceiling, I believe there will be minimum wastage. I am not sure whether your installation with the gap at the top is normal. Anyway, this is how the glass door is done at my friend's place: Regards, Reiki
  22. The only way, from my experience, to get OpenNet to come during your renovation is for you to sign-up with a Telco. Somehow, going direct to OpenNet takes about 3 months to get for the installation date. With a Telco (meaning, you have to sign up a contract), somehow OpenNet can be at your place within two weeks. You can negotiate for an earlier date.
  23. Wow!, this will be an envy to many HDB dwellers. It is nice to separate all the wet, dry and laundry areas. I like such configuration as it makes the whole kitchen area very specific and hence, the neatness that follows. Hope your balcony issue is resolved.
  24. I am not sure if all manufacturers have fitting instructions. There is no proper standard guide though 650 to 750mm is recommended. A hood with smaller extraction capacity is effective - the closer the better. However, just make sure there is space (and above your head) and you can see what you are cooking.
  25. With all the pictures of the house, I must say that I fall in love with the unit. You have such a big house! How big is the space area, IPineapple? Happy reno.
