I think the cost of materials have indeed gone up but maybe not as exaggerated as the inflated quotes might tell you. However, workmanship & quality of material used should be more important factors to consider. Sometimes we might just pick an ID/Contractor because we can get along well.

Know your budget well and set it together with your spouse. Always try to keep the spending to a few thousands lesser than your budget limit, cause we have a tendency to overrun it and you might want to keep it for some additional works later on

Where is your main door? I think either you change your tile choice (since you find yourself unable to make a straight decision) or go with the flow from the main doors. That's just my thoughts
