The Renovation Project Of 5rm Flat In Central Area
Starscream replied to audreysg's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Yep, that should be the aircon waste water piping that ideally should flow direct into your waste drainage. Repositioning looks a challenge (from the picture posted) lest you would drill through directly to reach the floor drainage? -

There is one along the shop houses near Hougang Mall, should be less than $30 a piece, do read the link posted about them being fire hazards.. -
Lamp That Does Not Have On And Off Switch

I've seen this type of touch lamps. Touch to switch on, touch again to make it brighter, touch once more to switched off. They are quite small in size (for bedside table). Is that what you are looking at? -

Me 2 Cts. There will always be a better buy next time just like buying computers.. Therefore you really must like the housing unit so much that you will put down mega bucks for it and when you eventually do, do not look back with any regrets whatsoever, just learn to enjoy a new lease of life as a proud house owner

Seeking Expertise Advise Urgently
Starscream replied to hippoheyhey's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
My 2 cents. The Cash Over Value (COV) component required by sellers have softened already and is likely to reduce further in 2009. Do re-look at the resale market if you haven't considered fully all its other merits other than thinking "worthwhile to buy an old flat which might deappreciate in value?" About the prospected unit. If you didn't like the house for what it is now, I'm think you are not going to "grow" to like it any more in future. That said, I am uncertain why one would splurge up to half a million quids in such uncertain times.. -
Very cute water feature but will you change your main door?

How is the quality of IKEA carpets in terms of durability and maintenance?

Hmm.. I think a comprehensive rewiring can be had just a tad over $2000. A more modest requirement would come under $2000 so try not to pay too much. I am quite satisfied with my electrician that handled my renovation. Anyone who wants his contact can PM me.

I got some quotes for home curtains as follows: 1 set of Roller Blinds (3-window panel) 1 set of Day & Night Living Room (4-window panel) 1 set of Blackout (4-window panel) 1 set of Normal Curtain (3-window panel) 1 set of Day & Night (4-window panel) 1 set of String Curtains One offer at $1900 (fabric from europe) and another at $1500 (fabric from korea) with installation and tracks. I know it depends on the choice of curtains and the length of materials used among other factors but are the prices quoted reasonable as compared to the going rate in the market? Any advise and comments appreciated. Thanks.

Everyone can give an opinion freely but ultimately the choice just like your house is yours. Some suggestions for you. 1. Do homework by reading up RenoTalk and other home-maker blogs. 2. Buy or loan some home renovation magazines to read. 3. Discuss with your family what would you like.. what is a must what is a frill. 4. Set out a budget and cater for extra just in case. 5. Talk to friends, others who have just renovated their homes. 6. Visit their houses and open your eyes when you pass by furniture shops, electrical and electronic stores. 7. Feel free to attend home exhibition but do not be tempted or pressured into signing a deal. In 2009, business would be tough and they will certainly be more "negotiable and persuasive" to make you commit. I repeat DO NOT sign up your house renovation contract at these exhibitions unless you know what you are doing. Better to discuss, deliberate then decide, never rush into it headlong not knowing where you are going. 8. Feel free to visit ID shops and renovation contractors recommended by forum folks and family/friends. Do visit the homes done up for reference and I do believe a referral is very important as a testament to the quality and reliability of an ID/contractor. DO NOT sign up until you are sure. 9. Check all terms and conditions before signing contract. Feel free to strike out those you are not comfortable with and include some of yours. Beware not to overpay deposit or for work in progress. Holding on to your cash is your only protection till the work is done to your satisfaction.

There are wall mounted fans which looked a tad more ugly as an alternative but if safety is a main concern, I would not mount them in the bedroom(s) right above the bed where a family member would be zzZ-ing..
