As mentioned above, our curtains were made by Mr Chew and his wife. He came down today with his wife to do the installation. Very cute to see them working as a team. They have all their tools with them and were very careful when they went about putting up our curtains. I am a very very pleased customer because the workmanship is good and they were all of the correct length. Also, the 100-blackout curtains I asked for in the MBR turned out to be really 100% blackout. My MBR was completely dark when I closed it at 4pm on a very sunny day! We were given tassels for both the living room and the MBR but the MBR curtains came with extra same-material ties. Also, he gave us 2 complimentary giant pillows in a darker shade to match our living room curtains Oh and the hook at the sides were also metal pieces that look elegant (not plastic!). I did not expect this but for the living room curtains, it was a pulley system. I just thought that I had to pull the curtains myself. Anyway, here are some pictures to share. They don't do justice to how they really look in real life because I somehow, couldn't take a very good photo. It was either too bright or too dark! Living room Pretty tassels. Good stitching. In the day. At night. Free pillows MBR

Help! Samsung 40" Tv Is Not That Clear After All. What's Wrong? :(
ene replied to ene's topic in Electronics & Electricals
We were, in fact, watching the opening match of the Euro 08 game and then realised that eh, it's not as clear as what we envisioned it to be! We changed the cable wires and it is slightly better now. At least more acceptable. Is it weird to think that it'd get better as time goes by? Cos I know that for my previous LG tv, when we first got it, it was quite crap as well. Then now, it's a lot better. Either that, or we just got used to it. -
The Panasonic model I posted above has microwave function as well which is why I'm considering it. For my purpose, I'd probably be a lot of microwaving and the occasisonal baking/grilling. This model does not have a steaming function but I don't need it. FYI, those considering, can go to Goh Ah Bee @ Hougang St 21. They're selling it for $370 which is a very good deal. I've already done a lot of market survey

Where To Buy Designer Style Electric Kettle?
ene replied to Wen Wen's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Do you mean those cordless electric kettle? And what do you mean by designer kettles? Do you mean popular brands such as Philips, Kenwood, etc? You can find lots of them at Harvey Norman, Best Denki and even Tangs, Robinsons, Isetan, etc. Unless you're talking about completely different, then I'm not sure. -
Yes, that's what I thought as well! I.e. if I bought from Harvey Norman and during the purchase, was informed that I WILL get $500 Robinson's voucher as well as the sound system, I would EXPECT this to be given to me. Why would I need to argue at Morris because the deal was sealed between me (customer) and shop (HN). This is so weird!

This is random but: Ha! I took Human Social Biology too! And I have a feeling we are of the same age (or at least close) applefreak Anyway back to this thread. I didn't want to post or even look at the thread at first because it seemed like intruding into someone's life but I still came in and read it on a boring day at work ( ) It made me sad reading this, especially the part about him not letting you work and having his sister "watch" over you. Oh dear! That is indeed v v v tragic. You sound so resigned I guess ultimately, you have to make that decision if you are indeed in a good and healthy marriage. I believe many have probably asked already but how long can you go on without cracking up? All the best girl.
-
Oh dear. Sorry to hear of so many horrible experiences! We were actually 'warned' by the people who came to install the tv onto our feature wall about the out-of-stock syndrome at Morris. Hence, we called them before we went down and immediately, they confirmed that the stereo system we wanted is available. We IMMEDIATELY drove down to Burlington Square and collected it. Thankfully, our experience was quite pain-free.
-
Ah, glad to know that I wasn't the only who experience weird service there. We, unfortunately, have confirmed our orders with them. The guy who came down on-site to measure the walls was very friendly though. Young chap. They were also quite quick with their quotations and email responses. Maybe after they realise that you are a done deal, then their service starts?

Hehe. That is mighty brave of you, to admit on a public forum that you, a guy, gets emotional when looking at WMF stuff. Hehehehe. But honestly, WMF is ALWAYS having sales so grab them! They're not *that* expensive when they're on sale, really. We managed to get some good deals on their 3-piece pot set as well as the cutlery set. They're all shiny and new but I am quite sure they won't remain so once I start using them *heart pain*. Oh and one thing: The odd thing is, WMF's pots have steel handles. I'm guessing that it will get hot when you boil water. That's quite silly!! I haven't tested mine yet but I'm guessing that might happen. Doh.

But what if the bitter lemon thingy don't work? I know of a friend who has 2 cats and they scratched up her leather sofa quite badly. Wah, so heart pain! If you like fabric, can always get those with a cover so that they can be washed? If not, just put a throw over it (can get from Ikea) but as mentioned earlier, it will block the design of your sofa lor. Then you'd have to decide: cleanliness or design?
-
Hehe. This made me laugh. Did you actually try it? As in, really lie in your yard area? Great! Will definitely call them for a quote soon. Btw, for those who already installed it, did they have to do major drilling, etc? I am very scared of them doing major drilling which means more dust to clean up again!
-
Yeah lor. Cannot just charge BASED on condo vs HDB but apparently, this is quite a known 'practise'. It doesn't stop at renovation costs, mind you. Even when you do your lighting shopping, you'd probably experience the same discrimination too. Tsk.

Help! Samsung 40" Tv Is Not That Clear After All. What's Wrong? :(
ene replied to ene's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Sigh. We were just like you. Thought that just buy the tv, hang on wall, connect it up, turn it on and TA-DAH! But nooooo. Have since learnt so much. I believe the outdoor antenna plays a large part as well. Then again, I'm guessing that if you are staying in a high-rise flat, how bad can your reception be, especially for cable channels? The ones at the showroom is always clear because they use DVD or a special converter for HD televisions, hence it is clear. For those buying tv, please ask this question before you purchase because you end up having to pay more to get the same good quality. Also, the distance between the tv and where you view the tv (i.e. the sofa) plays a part too. The bigger the tv, the larger the pixels, hence, the further you go, the clearer it gets! -
Thanks for the link owm. For easier viewing, here are the pix again: All I can say is: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

Oooh, THAT is indeed very nasty. And that's exactly what I'm hoping anyone trying to self-install their tv set on their feature NOT do. I don't even wanna begin the kind of heartache that will follow after. Out of curiousity, I'm quite sure the warranty doesn't covered a smashed-up tv due to own negligence?

Help! Samsung 40" Tv Is Not That Clear After All. What's Wrong? :(
ene replied to ene's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Yes, I believe this is already done but let me check when I go home. Will probably also go home and study the tv manual! Yes, this was recommended to us by the HN salesguy but it's soooo expensive! It's like $399, I believe. And after spending so much on the house renos, electrical items, etc, it is hard pressed for us to fork out the $399 now. We'd see how it goes. Maybe in the next couple of months, when we're not eating grass ( ), we can consider getting that box thingy. -
For answers to #1 and #3, why don't you use normal glass but use solar films? There is a thread here on solar films for window, do a search. It cuts out 99% of glare and heat and also prevent people from looking in. As for #2, most customised wardrobe and bed use laminate? You can select the type of laminates - lots on the market these days.

I actually got my electrician to move the lights to the corner already so as not to 'block' the pulley system in case we want it. Our yard area is super small anyway so no matter where the light is placed, it can light up the whole area Thanks for the contact for Home Niche. I'd call them once we settle all the "big" stuff.
-
Yes yes. Quite good deal with Robinsons card. A lot of stuff are 20% + 20% off so you end up with quite a bit of savings, especially if you're buying bigger stuff. For crockery, Corelle and Corningware got some nice dinner sets (with plates, soup bowls, rice bowls, etc) going for a good price. Just saw them yesterday

Help! Samsung 40" Tv Is Not That Clear After All. What's Wrong? :(
ene replied to ene's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Yes, if all else fails, I will call the Samsung helpdesk -
Yes, definitely get help when trying to mount the tv on your own. Last night, my fiance and I had to rewire some of the cables and he alone had to carry the very heavy 40" tv while I fiddled with the wires at the back of the tv. Very tiring for him! Must have at least 2 persons. You don't wanna drop it accidentally!

Help! Samsung 40" Tv Is Not That Clear After All. What's Wrong? :(
ene replied to ene's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Thanks so much for all your replies. Last night, we went to Harvey Norman (where we bought the tv from) and spoke with the sales guy. He recommended that we get the "Monster" cables for the tv as well as for the dvd output. We did both and last night, went home to try. He also shared that normal tv is using analog and if we are using a full HD tv, it needs to be converted so that the output pic quality is HD quality. Aiyoh, so cheem! The dvd picture quality improved quite bit so that's settled. The tv cable point did not fit (doh!!) so my fiance has to go get it changed today. We'd try and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip. We'd try that tonight to see if it gets better. DVD quality was better than the tv quality, even when we used the "normal" cables. But with the new cables, a lot better now. No issue with dvd. -
Kitchen Glass Sliding Door -> Anyone Do Kerb On Floor?
ene replied to lxiul's topic in Carpentry Works
Yep, the kerb is not necessary. As mentioned above, some people like the kitchen area to be demarcated with a kerb but I think that's quite old-fashioned? The above pic is taken from my kitchen out to the main area. There is a glass door behind the wall (which you can see slightly). No kerb -
Hello to all, We just received our 40" Samsung (Series 5) tv at our new place last week and after the electrician connected up everything, we noticed that the picture quality is very bad. We can tell what's showing, of course but it's very pixelated. And this is a 30,000:1 contrast ratio tv? Are we doing anything wrong? Or rather, is there anything we can buy/do to improve picture quality? Would changing to a better quality (i.e. "24K gold") tv cable wire help? Any suggestions/help will be much appreciated. Thanks!
