Hi, can i know how much was the damage? Could you pm the contact as well? tks!
-
well.. mayb myself to blame, since his rate is a little cheaper than the rest for carpentry. sigh. lesson learnt. just take it i guess, and mayb try to bargain down... since there's still some balance that i have not paid.

Hi Sumbarajam, if u decide to go with univonna, if u can, try to go for full leather rather than half leather. I think the diff is only a few hundreds. I went for the half leather... and only the seats (front part) were full leather. the arm rest was pu leather... not so shiok. and u can tell the diff if you are standing near............

thats true. haha. only the problem is we r diy-ing our electricity part. so no electrician. i guess we have to continue thinking. hi wuga98, my lamp is from lush. mine is the big standing version.. they have a table lamp version, and as chandelier too, which shld be the one u saw in magazine.

Hi, I have a standing lamp which i would want to convert to chandelier. Any idea where can i get the wires etc to hang it? I have some ppics below. Any suggestions on how to convert into a chandelier?? Thanks! Here's the lamp. The look of the base. Close-up. Thinking of using wires to hook from here, but not exactly sure how to do it.

bunbun, so all of u had plywood????????????/ why like that????????? sigh. very sad. i also dunno how, cos cannot really take the delay anymore. actually i wouldnt have realise... my dad's the guru. told me the sound is funny.............
-
hey mafiawife, yeah.. thats the night mkt.. really not that cheap, but lotsa interesting stuff. if u find any nice stuff from phuket, must share!! sigh.. the contractor already confirmed that its not plywood. i forgot what its called, and according to my dad, its b grade wood. but also dunno waht i can do about it. contractor claimed that everyone uses this type of wood. upset! actually my solid top is not up yet. hehe. cos we r living there already, and too much barang, so cant wait to lay out stuff, even the solid top has not been laid yet.

More updates.. the bathroom is finally done, and the carpentry's halfway done. Does anyone realise something's looking not quite right in the bathroom??? *drumroll* The golden frame mirror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Courtesy of my dad, who thought it would match with the bifold door for the bathroom. *faint* The thing is......... the bifold door is in silver, not gold, as my dad had thought. sigh........ dunno whether to laugh or cry at my dad's "fashion" sense..!! now i have to find another spot for the mirror. Carpentry done so far... looking decent, then i realise that the laminate is not the way i wanted. I had wanted the lines to be horizontal, not vertical. was a little shocked to see it vertical. After checking with the contractor, it seems that i had chosen vertical ones, rather than horizontal (not sure whose fault), and the laminate looks rather different from what i had in mind. (laminate looks v old fashion to me.. me and my "good" taste!!! grrr.. ) to redo wld take a very long time, which is something i dont have. I had no choice, but to use the existing laminate, but redo in the horizontal way, which would mean alot of wastage (and extra cost....... ). Sigh, so angry with myself! Just wondering, what is the wood material used for kitchen cabinets? We thought it would be plywood.. bbut according to the contractor, plywood is only used for thickness less than 15mm... and kitchen cabinets do not use plywood. Is that true??? Haiya, my dad's complaining, but we can only take waht the contractor says, since we have no idea...

tiling is done... finally!!! here's some pics. pardon the bad angle though... bad photographer. hehe. concrete support for sink. abit old fashion, but i think it really goes a long way, esp after how i see the previous shelving crumpled after the sink started leaking. will be building wooden cabinets over it though. still quite dirty and messy. can't wait for everything to be cleared!!! tried to buy some switches n socket today as well... and choo chiang was all closed. due to scheduling of renovation, had to get some switches today. went to a shop next to kong kwang (?) at kelatan lane. the 1gang white colored MK switches cost 3.5, 2 gang 7 (i think) n 3 gang cost 9sgd, and heater switch at 11sgd. is that a reasonable cost?????? dont wanna be robert.

Hi Okxygene, thanks! I went chatuchak (Soi 24 and Soi 7, i think) and MBK. You can try Suan Lum too, though heard its closing end of Apr. Good luck to your trip! There's lotsa cheap and nice stuff there. Went shopping for bathroom wares today. Realised that Genova was having a sale (ends tomorrow), they are having storewide 20% off and more discounts on some other stuff. Here's what i bought.. basin, finally! basin tap mixer Bought the above plus a kitchen mixer and some bathroom accessories for <300. Very happy with my purchases today.

Hi Zila, ur place is really nice!!!! how much did u pay for ur chandelier? Really adds on to the overall mood of the place. Ur wardrobe is custom made, i suppose? And wallpaper... All so nice!

Hi Shix2_82, i love ur vogue pink wall. What brand of paint and color shade is that?

Here's a floor plan which i drew up. The proportion's a little off though. The flat is quite old already, ard 16yrs. And the layout is quite sucky in a sense, cos there are alot of pillars which makes laying furniture a challenge. The thing that gets me most is the common toilet. I must have one of the worse toilet layout, cos the shower area is right smacked at where the door is. Explored all possible ways, but there is no practical way the shower area can be separated (not even a kerb). Can only drool at everyone's shower screen. So far, have not really bought much stuff, except the sink and the hood (both from SSC). Having quite a bit of headache searching for the bathroom basin, and also can't make up my mind too. Was quite set on getting a square/rectangular basin, until my dad pointed out, "Dont you think it looks like public toilets?" Since then, all square/rectangular basin that i see just reminds me of those in public toilets. And i think my dad has a point........... Just have to find a un-public toilet looking one. Melting_starz, my dad continued to stay in the house during the renovation. I am actually staying at my rented place, and will be moving back when reno is done. Hacking's not that bad, since only a day or two. It really makes the place messy and dirty though, as I was home few days ago, and I can't find anywhere to sit in the living room! Wonder how my dad can take it. The renovation should be quite fast though (within a month max). My reno started last Thurs, and the laying is already almost done (and there was 2 days delay due to wrong tiles). Maybe your mum can take a 2 week holiday, and endure with the reno for 1 week?
-
jjcian, ur carpentry is very nice!! Is your kitchen solid surface top thicker than the usual? how thick is it?
-
renovation finally started. so far so good. some pics for before reno.... Finished hacking. Just starting to lay the tiles.. There was some delay as we got our tiles wrong. !! Work done so far.... only hacking and overlaying for the exposed areas kitchen floor tiles toilet floor tiles (looks almost like kitchen ones. hehe) can't wait to see the rest of the work!

Hi crazycar, your house is very nice!! May I know where did you buy the basin in your common toilet and how much did you pay for it? tks!

Kitchen Sink Using Concret Sink Or Normal Wood Cabinet?
bebebe replied to lxiul's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
you can request for cupboards to be built over it. In this way, no one can tell u have concrete support and u can have ur solid surface top. I think quite a few forumers did this. -
Hey Bebebe Well, while i hv a rough idea what i want but i os got a pair of very straying eyes lor! I surely will send up buying this and tat! Esp when u compare the price it is so dirt cheap dun buy like leh Care to share yr shopping spots there? I only know MBK, Chatuchak area leh. I ref to color beads lamps, table lamps. Veri nice one leh! Saw from a fren's fren place. I am not sure if I wld wan to check in the plates plates and stuffs, sometime paste Fragile liao oso no use one leh. Carry it on my own oso jialat one lor!! Where is this SBH showroom? I can do w/o a bath tub one, but my husband like die die oso must hv type. sigh.... waste water leh!! Eh bebebe, so yr shopping spree ended liao ha? Hv u bought yr furnishing? Sofa? Bed frame? TV? Dining table?? Did u start a reno blog? Phoenix, I always stayed at Novotel Siam Sq, veri convi!! There's a train station bhind the hotel and it is very near to MBK and i tink it is abt 6-8 train stations away from Chatuchak leh. Phoenix, unfortunately, Eastin has no train station. It was a very big down for me too, but i cannot resist the price. We took cab to chatuchak from hotel and cost the same as train, so not that bad afterall. You might want to check out Siam Design -- looks quite nice from internet. Or natural ville @ langsuan. I stayed there before. its 5-10min walk to central world/ploenchit station. But i agree with the rest.....novetel siam sq is the best on overall basis!!!! Sarah, I totally understand. For me, my budget quite tight, and i'm quite loose with $$, so went with very specific things in mind, otherwise sure got nuts!!! I think the beads lamp should be able to find la. There's really alot of things to see. Only other place is Suan Lum market lor. I think Siam discovery centre also can find, and sukhuvmit area. I didnt have time to go. What sort of theme you are going for? If its woody/zen theme... then u better guard your wallet. Hehe, luckily (or mayb unluckily), I didnt have that much stuff to buy. Using back alot of my existing stuff. I have a reno blog, sorry cannt paste link here, cos not figured how to do it yet. SBH showroom is at Toh Guan East Road, v close to IMM. haah, bathtub is quite a nice thing to have la, but think not cheap to construct one also, esp mosaic not cheap. How about those baroque looking ones, with legs ones? v nice leh. So when u going bkk? I read on this forum china also cheap furniture leh. heheh.

April copy of Home & Decor too. I love the feel of your place!

Hey Sarah, I think it's ok. My renovations have just started too. I think you would sort of know what you need and want already. Think about what you want before you head there.. that's waht i did. Saves time too, esp if you are fickle minded. hehe. !! Really alot of things to buy.. almost bought a shower head cos its only 20sgd. lol. I think crockerys can check in.. make sure there's a huge FRAGILE sign. Are you refering to color beads curtains, or lights? not sure if i get it right, but it does sound like something u can get at chatuchak, or one of the mkts there definitely. For bathtub -- You refering to something like at SBH showroom at Toh Guan. I saw something like that there. Heard from a plumbing pro that it's possible, only downside i can think of is the amount of cleaning that comes with mosaic, and mosaic dont seems to "age" well. Hmm.. guess i have to be more diligent about cleaning Phoenix, I stayed Eastin Spa Hotel and paid thb5000 for 2 nights. Its at Pratunam area, a little inconvenient by public transport. The hotel is new though, gd value for $ I thought.

Hey Sarah, yeah, you better head there soon!! I bought the lamp from Chatuchak. The shop is at Section 23, along the main path and very near to Section 24.

Just got back from bkk over the weekend. Checked out Suan Lum market, Chatuchak and MBK for lightings and furnitures. Some thoughts... Suan Lum has some interesting furniture shops -- those carrying designers' copy, and also local designer. Some fun ones were one which carries retro furniture (from tv stand to radio etc), one which carries girly country style accessories, like mirrors, photo frames etc, and another which does everything in acrylic. They have everything in acrylic, including chairs, wall mount cd rack, coffee table (similiar to Kartell's), magazine rack etc. For designers' copy, the asking for egg chair was approx 1500sgd. Suan Lum seems to have better quality stuff in general, wider range of shops, but at higher price. The place to go if you are into non-zen/woody theme. Chatuchak. This is the place to go if you are after the zen woody theme. Not able to comment about the price, as I didnt enquire about any. Some shops which caught my eye -- one which carries leather wrapped (Hermes style, i think) boxes, tissue boxes, trays etc (its not exactly cheap though). one which carries unpainted, country style boxes, trays, magazine stand, jewellery drawers, and two lighting shops which sells crystal chandeliers. Things are cheaper at chatuchak, but be prepared to brave the heat! MBK. They have devoted the entire 5th floor to home furnishing. There are a few shops which carries modern furniture. Price wise -- Saw a bedroom set (king size bedframe, bedside table and 7ft wardrobe) going for 30,000+ thb. Not sure whether its considered expensive. There's also a shop called Index which is worth checking out. It reminds me of Ikea, with seemingly better quality stuff. Prices are definitely higher, but you get aircon!! !! Here's some pics and prices.. for 2200thb for 3500thb asking @ 6900thb 150thb

hope im not getting paranoid. After paying 20% down payment upon signing, there was no news from my contractor. Told him to liasie with my dad subsequently, but i learnt from my dad ( been a week since) that the contractor had not called. Tried calling the contractor on his given hp no few times, but got msg that subscriber not in use. Tried on his alt no. with my hp -- no ans still. it was only after a few hours that i tried with my hse phone (which i hv never tried calling with) that i got an ans. And contractor told me the hdb permit only allows works to be started on thurs -- and all these he wld not have told me without me askihng!!?!?!? when i probe a little more abt me having not chose laminate for kitchen cabinets etc... he suggested meeting me at my place. Hope he turns up. I feel somewhat unsettled.
