Help: Do I Need An Interior Designer Or A Contractor
yokine9a replied to timpani_tracy's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Go for contractor. Must IDs are interested in taking up whole house reno if their biz is good, if their biz is no good, then maybe they will consider your project. Well, if their biz is no good, would you dare to give them your project? Since you already have specific idea what you want to do, just tell the contractor what you want and get him to do the work. Contractors have no standard package to offer, they simply do what you want to do for the house. Not all tiles cost the same. Better looking/quality higher price. Europe made ones and China made ones cost different too. You only have a specific range of tiles to choose from cos the ID had already projected what the cost was like, how much he could earn from you etc. What if you choose a $20 tile and your ID expects you to pick a $3 tile? If you need recommendation, I can introduce Ho Bee to you. They did my house reno. The boss, Patrick is very nice to work with. His tiler is an experienced worker. Call his office @ 67885841 and look for his wife, Mrs Quek. She will arrange for site visit and whatsoever. -
Well, if you buy from that shop, they will deliver and assemble it in your house for you, all included in the cost, in Singapore lah I do not know how you can disassemble it and ship overseas yourself. Maybe you can still ring that shop to arrange for their workers to disassemble it, at extra cost I think But after you are in overseas, everything will be on your own.

I bought quite a fair bit of stuff from IKEA for my new house recently. They are all solid wood cos bf insists to buy only solid wood stuff However, if you don't mind to do a bit of extra work, you can get pretty cheap untreated furniture there and apply a layer of lacquer later on. Both my bf and myself like IKEA's furniture for their simple design

Mine is top mount. My contractor used silicon to seal up the join lines underneath the sink and granite countertop. To change the sink few yrs later should be pretty easy bah I wanted to try top mount cos in my parents's place, it is bottom mount and my mom is a lazy person. She hardly brushes the seal up area, hence, the silicon has changed from white to yellowish color. Not nice now

Hi, my contractor charged me $1300 for a 9 feet concrete support for sink, chopping area and stove.

For old flats, most probably you are using those bigger one. To be sure, measurement your own trash bin. Not just the size of the bin but also the size of the hole behind the bin. Suggest you get your reno contractor to install the bin for you. Not quite a simple work. My flat is 30 yrs old and I am using those bigger one, however, my contractor bought a slightly smaller bin for me during reno. What he did was to use cement and silicon to seize up the surrounding area to fit the new bin.

Hi, how much did you pay for the UFO sofa? I like it too, thinking of getting it for my living room. Thanks.

In this case, I would suggest you buy from local IKEA if there is one. Or any other furniture store over there? This is the external pix of the wardrobe. I didn't take any pix on the internal structure. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn3/yok.../12-04-08_3.jpg It has 3 hanging rods. 2 on the LHS, I used them to hang my long/short sleeves, the other one my pants/jeans/shorts. 1 rod on the RHS, for my long dresses. It has a drawer. On the upper section of the wardrobe are 2 big shelves.

Before my laminated flooring was up, I went to vohringer's website for their quotation. They didn't call me till 2 weeks later. By then, I have already confirmed my order with Supreme. Go for Pergo if you have the budget.

3rm Resale Flat Renovation
yokine9a replied to kang's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
It is the responsbility of upstairs owner to resolve the water seepage problem. However, he can refuse not to do anything since this problem is not going to affect his daily life. If you wanna buy the flat downstairs, you are buying it as it is condition, including the water seepage problem. Unless this problem has been resolved before you take over the ownership. Yes, you should request the seller to patch it up with upstairs before he sells the unit to you. -
IKEA does give warranty to their wardrobe, I think is 15 yrs if I am not wrong However, that provides you don't dismantle it and move around. In fact, once you assemble the wardrobe, try not to move it, else it may give way very soon. Wardrobe is just plywood, not solid enough to handle house moving. Try to look around for better quality wardrobe. I bought a 2 door sliding door + mirror wardrobe in AMK, $900 only. The frame is naytoh wood, very heavy, better than plywood. Might be able to move around 1 or 2 times.

My laminated flooring also from Supreme, I chose California Oak. I prefer a lighter color lor. But yours is very nice. I saw London Oak during the expo exhibition, however, didn't realise it to look so nice when the whole room is done up. Looks very natural. choice.

Is Window Grill Necessary?
yokine9a replied to star77's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
My case is different from yours. I bought a resale flat and it has window grilles installed. As I am single, I don't need the grilles. Initially wanted to spend $$ to remove them. Now, I changed my mind and decided to keep them. If window grilles are not there, don't install them if you think you don't need them. You can always put them up when you need them -

Is Is Necessary To Do Rewiring For A 12 Yrs Unit?
yokine9a replied to Cherry's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
12 yrs is still considered alright and rewiring is not really necessary. People usually do rewiring after 20 yrs. Most people won't bother to do rewiring even thou they have been living in the house for 30 yrs. However, you might want to get your contractor to check the existing wiring work to ensure there is no cable tapping work. Another qtn is, how long do you plan to live there? 10 yrs? 20 yrs? If you are going to stay there for long, then either do the rewiring couple of yrs later (which could be a troublesome work just like your friend encountered), or do it now. -
Sad to hear that, hope you can pull thru this hard time. My suggestion is, make a police report abt his MIA. Since you 2 are separated for 2 yrs, I believe you can lodge a divorce without his presence. Then approach HDB to buy a flat for you and your daughter. Another person you can seek help is your MP, be it HDB issue or lawyer issue. As for your question if the police will really go to find him after you made the police report, the answer is no. They won't have the time to look for missing person under such situation. They simply make a note in their system to indicate that this guy has gone missing.

Urgent Need For Contractor To Do Toilets..recommendation Pls!
yokine9a replied to gingerbelle's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Have you tried Ho Bee? Their tiling work is good and they don't mind to take small projects if they are not too tied up. Call Mrs Quek @ 67885841. -
Nice like your PD door. BTW, what does PD stand for? Poor choco, your bathroom becomes so small with such a big gap between the 2 drainage pipe. What a stupid work from HDB. Mine was side by side to the wall leh. Your toilet bowl is as small as mine Is your hand basin made of glass? I thought you wanted to have laminated flooring for living room as well? How come change to homo tiles liao? The laminated flooring in your bedrooms looks pretty unique. Which laminate company did you go for? Are you going to do without window grilles? Saw your living room windows have no window grilles. The progress in your house seems to be pretty slow leh, kitchen cabinet still not up after these few weeks

First to spam Congrads in getting your own house Yes, living room is going to be a challenge. I have seen another forumer having the same layout as yours, but can't remember who. You might want to browse thru this forum for some ideas.

I also think that right one looks better. Vertical lines make your hall looks longer when looking from the main door.

I still think that IKEA has the widest range of bookshelves. I saw 1 or 2 nice bookshelves when I was in IFC last weekend but choices were limited. Surprisingly, not all the shops in IFC are expensive. I bought 2 big bookshelves from IKEA, solid pine wood, not cheap but very nice pine wood pattern. I paid for the delivery and my bf assembled them himself. Not difficult to assemble, just need muscles and patience I noticed that some of the bigger furniture shops like Novena, Nova, Brighton etc don't sell bookshelves, why hah?

This price looks ok to me. However, you might want to get a few quotes for comparison. I used Movers_101 when I moved house last month. The guys were very careful when handling my stuff, no scratches. I don't have their contact # on hand now. Just Google "Movers_101" and you can find their advert easily on the net

Hi patsy_sg & flyersummer, are you able to breakdown cost you spent into $ per square feet? The lowest quote I received so far is $4.80psf plain colour see-thru type, including installation. A roller blind is just a roller blind to me, as long as it can provide privacy, I don't intend to spend too much on it. Already broke after renovating my house and buying furniture/appliances
