  1. Very true, why make the life so difficult leh? In OZ, we probably will just laugh and joke with the seller for adding creative fun to the food.
  2. In Australia, it is ok due to dry weather, no smell. In S'pore, no no, due to humid weather.
  3. Top floor don't need to worry, HDB or TC will bear 100% of the cost if there is any water seepage.
  4. This price is ok, though I think I paid for $185. Can't be sure, must dig out the invoice.
  5. Not the expert in pulley systems, just listen to what those installers say they use pulley systems from Jap, Oz, US & even Msia. Someone ever say that those Jap systems are smoother in pulling I have a few contacts leh, which one do you want? Must go back home to dig liao. After I placed my order for the blinds, left the contact list at home.
  6. 707 has been in the market for many years liao... Reliable brand... Can last for very long... I bought the Compact model for my house... Does the job well and no complain
  7. You guys are sooo bad char siew bao is just char siew bao ok, don't think too much
  8. fanguojun, $300 is for dim out. $5psf is a good deal. Since you have engaged that shop, just stick to it lah. If you really want to compare further, just pm me, will give you my contact for the blinds Cherry, can the IKEA blinds fit your living room windows? The quality a bit not so good lor, need to be gentle in pulling the blinds. You can try Spotlight @ Plaza Singapura, they have ready-made blinds too. Different pricing for diff quality.
  9. Let me answer on behalf of Donut88 hor It dpends what causes the big crack on the flooring. If it is due to poorly done cement below the tiles, ie. too dry cement layer, then it is possible to crack further in future. See your contractor for expert advice on this. If it is due to heavy object dropped onto the floor that causes the crack, then use cement paste to touch up and cover with laminated flooring is fine. Postform is just like any tables or cabinets you can find in the market, a piece of wood with some trimmings. It can be pretty durable if you are careful with maintenance, ie. no leftover liquid/water stains, always wipe it clean. This is bcos water can sip thru the wood layer and cause it to warp. How do you cook? Like those hawker's style? Then postform is not suitable for you unless you are very hardworking in cleaning work. However, postform is the cheapest option if you have budget constraint and willing to take care of it. I cook everyday and I have granite tabletop. Go for China granite as it is cheaper, if this is your choice. Indian granite is $100psf. If you just do what we suggested above, $10k is enough for first stage of reno work. Remember, don't think of doing tiling work for kitchen and toilet walls, they are very expensive. Hack the old tiles if you don't like them, and do painting or plain cemented walls.
  10. Sorry, no pix leh, can use your imagination? Suggest you look thru reno magazines for some ideas of what theme you want to have.
  11. Glue the shoes cabinet to the floor or wall using super glue
  12. In TPY, the cheapest curtain shop is Hong Ming. She quoted me $500 for 9 panels, which is $4.80psf for see-thru type. Didn't give her the biz cos I found another quote with $300 only
  13. Yah lor, contractors definitely have lobang for all this, else how to survive in such a high cost of living in S'pore
  14. Next time just order 2 big big fish balls, with 5cm apart lah
  15. oh ic ic... All my shoes are kept inside the cabinet, should be ok hor, thou it is just by the side of the main door lor... The moment I open my door, first thing to see is my shoe cabinet leh
  16. Hey, people like us in Renotalk also recommended Ho Bee leh
  17. I am also using one of these bought from IKEA as my shoe cabinet. Mine is the untreated pine 3-drawer chest drawer, same design as yours. Serves me well All my shoes can fit into this cabinet leh. Less than 20 pairs. Some are brand new ones, cannot find my shoes size in S'pore previously, feet too small liao, so brought back a few pairs of Children shoes from Sydney I thought in terms of FS, shoes should not be put outside the house?
  18. Quotation is usually in sq foot. I am weak in Maths, so you need to convert yourself Convert your floor area into sqf and you will have a rough idea when people start quoting you their pricing. To overlay, you save the hacking fee. But if your floor condition is no good, suggest you hack it. Cos if the bottem tiles crack further, your top tiles will be affected. I spent $180 to hack my kitchen floor tiles. $800 to lay new tiles. $150 for water proofing treatment. Difficult maintenance for what? Laminated flooring? I find it pretty easy as long as I am careful with water when mopping the floor. I have laminated flooring for bedrooms, spent $4.30psf. 15 yrs old flat doesn't really need rewiring. Can do it later. If there is no rust on your piping, I guess it is still ok. I spent $11K excluding laminated flooring work but including electrical work. I know that, but what to do, cannot find any newer 3-room flat in TPY liao These are the main things I did: Hack kitchen floor/cabinet/sink support/basin Lay new kitchen tiles Install new cabinet/sink+stove support/basin Repolish living hall terrazzo flooring Laminated flooring for 2 bedrooms Painting/rewiring/piping Install new toilet bowl/water heater/refuse chute
  19. Wah, looks like a total makeover is needed for your resale house leh. 10k for reno definitely not enough, at least 20k. To do it in several phase might be difficult unless you can bear the dust and noise. To start with, at least do the flooring, wall tiling, electrical wiring. Carpentry work can be done later. Changing of windows and grilles can be at 3rd stage. I suggest you hack the tiled flooring since its condition is no good. Can consider to lay new tiles or go for laminated flooring. Do you have in mind what you want to do to your house? If no, you should start going to ID shops or read thru reno magazines for ideas. You should also look thru this forum for ideas, or in blog section for nice pix. For ID, can let he/she to plan the theme for you, you just sit there and say ok not ok blah blah. For contractor, you must know what you want to do, cos contractor doesn’t do design work, they follow instructions from you. When I gotten my house, I didn’t do anything to the living hall floor, kitchen wall, toilet floor/wall to save $$. My flat is a 30+ yrs old flat. I used Ho Bee as my reno contractor.
  20. 15. Where can I get the water saving devices? You can call PUB at Tel : 67313275 or 67313273, Monday - Friday (9 am to 5 pm). You can also reach our multi-contact centre, PUB-One through: 24-hour toll free hotline at 1800-2846600 email at PUBone@singnet.com.sg SMS at 90343430 in the format: Name: Contact Number: Address: No of Thimbles required: I have using those thimbles in my house now... But don't really find them helpful to me cos I am not those kind of people who will turn on the tap to the max every time... I always turn it using a little bit of force, depend how much water I need... Without the thimbles, I can get a cup of water within 15 secs... After putting the thimbles, I need to wait for at least 30 secs to fill up the same cup... When I am in a hurry for work, really feel like throwing those thimbles away I think these thimbles are more suitable for people like my bf, who never fail, turn on the tap to the max when he needs water
  21. Hi Bro MaCe, Was in PC Show last weekend and dropped by Carrefour to look look see see. Bought a bottle of Mrs McKenic Floor Wonder. $12 for 2 litre, very expensive leh, no wonder more powerful than MagicClean Its label states that it can clean almost any flooring, from marble to tiles and even laminated flooring!! I have terrazzo in living hall, tiles in kitchen and laminated flooring in bedrooms, do you think it is ok that I use McKenic as the one-for-all cleanser for mopping work in the house? Thank you
  22. Even cement screed for toilet walls? Would the walls get mouldy easily? I know that painted walls in toilet is no no, but cement screed, hmm... BTW, my house has cement screed for the 2 bedrooms when I bought it. Always feel dusty when I walk on it with bare foot I went for laminated flooring in bedrooms now.
  23. Hi tingshen, I am interested at just the basic model 510 or 530, possible to do a MO? $500 for 570 is out of my budget liao
  24. Chioce of colors is really up to individual's preference. Some prefer cool colors like grey, white etc. I wanted something more colorful, so I chose green for living/dinning room, purple for master bedroom, blue for common room. My kitchen is yellow. If you like red color, can consider using it for your feature wall, and match with white or grey on other walls in your living hall. Colors have calm and warm feelings, take that into consideration when planning for colors
  25. Yes, it is kind of the norm here, no tiles behind the cabinet. You can insist them to lay tiles behind the cabinet if you are not comfortable. But you probably have to pay more since IDs/contractors charge by psf basis. Against water leakage? Don't think an extra tiled layer can do that. Water can still seep thru but takes longer time. Waterproofing treatment is the key here. But this should be done at the source, eg. the exterior layer of your wall, not your kitchen wall. Half-naked? Very good imagination. So my kitchen wall is half-naked!! What about kitchen wall with no tiles at all, just painted wall? Nude??
