  1. Usually not in IT fair. Didn't see any of such offer when I was in the last IT show. Yah lor, almost all LCD TVs are of black and shiny surface, which I don't like. I never like black colour lor Actually most of the Sharp TVs I saw in shops are also having speaker built at the bottom of the TV screen. Maybe it is due to most people tend to mount their TV on the wall now, at a higher height from the floor, having speaker at the bottom of the TV is better for the viewer, at the same level of their ears mah
  2. I bought a Toshiba recently. Initially was looking at Sharp but turned to Toshiba cos it gives me full 3 yrs warranty. Sharp makes its own display panel in japan, so quality wise you need not worry too much. But it gives 1+2 yrs warranty only. If price is not a concern to you, can consider Philips or Sony. Panasonic is pretty good too. No diff except on pricing. You need to top up more for extra warranty. If you can wait, IT fair is a good option. I saw many people was pulling boxes of LCD TV when I was in the last IT Show, as if those TVs are FOC leh
  3. I think this is pretty common to have water marks. I have the same problem even thou I am not using normal mop. I used 3M sponge mop for my house. It has a mechanisam to squeeze the mop when I pull the lever, so I don't use my bare hands. Be it my laminated bedrooms or tiled kitchen, I can see water marks/lines after mopping
  4. You have to be very gentle while pulling the blinds as I really find that ikea pulley mechanism not very strong. Must go back home to see your pic liao, cannot view it in office as it is being blocked by firewall. BTW, where did you get your novita garment steamer SS19 at $320? I am interested to get one but many places are selling at $380. Even if I go to novita HQ, they are only giving 5% discount off regular selling priece. Thanks.
  5. I reckon most of us more or less are aware of this. I used all energy saving light bulbs for my house. But to my parents, they think that the high cost of buying an energy saving bulb, though uses lesser wattage & longer lifespan, cannot justify the cheap cost of an incandescent bulb. To them, buying a few incandescent bulbs = one energy saving bulb.
  6. Don't think so, they might have to redo the whole piece of wood. One of my kitchen cabinet has this extra drill-hole done by a well-known carpenter in this forum. No way to rectify except to change the whole piece of wood. Never go for quality check I reckon. Dare not ask my contractor to change it cos the last time I asked to change the glass door of my dish tray, they did twice but could never get the measurement accurate
  7. Yeah, not a big deal cos she is not the person facing the hooks everyday!!
  8. Read thru this, the answer is here. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1087
  9. Very lousy workmanship, didn't bother to measure the position before they mount the hooks. And I also think that your old door frame should be removed before installing the bi-fold door. Really not nice leh. What is the reason given by your ID for keeping it?
  10. This topic has been discussed several times. If you browse around, should have some ideas liao. Anyway, I did not get my contractor to build a base for my w/m & fridge. The reason is simple, they are just a waste of $$ to me. Normal mopping is not going to spoil the base of your electrical applicances. Don't understand why building of the base is still available in the default package, don't those IDs realise that this concept is already out-dated?
  11. Hi, the 2 forumers on top, have PMed you guys Just a note, I think Patrick is very busy now due to ghost month coming, everyone wants to finish their reno work before that. If possible, schedule your reno after ghost month. Don't get frustrated if you don't hear anything from him within a week.
  12. Wah, just a 530 already priced at $788, really cut throat price leh Sharpion, hv you bought your roomba? Not sure abt buying from overseas eBay but when I was in Sydney, ever bought some books from Amazon & shipped to Australia, experience was good. Is the supplier in eBay reliable? What is the price difference compare to Amazon?
  13. Me not that long, 2 mths only. In fact never notice abt this robot toy till I moved in to my new house. With 1 new condo building at the right of my flat & upgrade of a multi-purpose hall in the school behind my unit, the whole floor of my house is constantly covered with tiny dust, even though I shut all windows in the day. Really wonder how the dust comes into my house?? Why just 530? It doesn't come with lighthouse feature. I find this lighthouse feature very useful, you can block the robot from leaving a room till it has cleaned up that whole area. You should consider 535 if you are going for entry level model. Just my opinion, you may think differently. I don't need home base cos my living room, bedrooms & kitchen are not on the same level, so this guy can't move around freely. Just wanted to get a 510 only, very cheapo I hesitate cos this robot toy is **** expensive lor. With the $$, I can buy many broom liao.
  14. I didn't measure the length of my roller blinds, but I remembered the length of my windows is 207cm. Yes, it won't look nice to have 2 panels for a single piece of windows, there will be gap too. However, in order to go for a single piece of blinds, the fabric you choose must be light enough, else the rod will not be able to hold its weight. Your blinds installer should be able to advise you further.
  15. Someone in hardwarezone forum says HSN accepts USA credit cards only, but the website will not turn you down when you place your order. Not too sure abt details cos too many pages to read liao. You might want to read thru its T&C to ensure your order will go thru. Wah, so you are determined to get one, I am still hesitating leh
  16. Do note the moment you want to re-tile your walls, it is not going to be cheap hor. Time frame should be at least 2 months. Yes, you can keep the drawings provided you are engaging that ID to do the work for you.
  17. Hi all, need your advice b4 I buy a garment steamer. Can this garment steamer do a good ironing work on cotton clothing? My colleague bought one & he said these steamer doesn't work well on cotton shirt. All my bf's working shirt are long sleeve cotton material leh Thank you
  18. HSN - Home Shopping Network. An online shopping company, something like Amazon. Yeah, you are probably right, buying online from US can really save a pretty sum of $$.
  19. I think majority of us are in the same situation as you, we work for the $$ to pay for the bread
  20. Aiyoh, who ask you to want big big screen & pay few thousands for that LCD TV ah. I spent < $1K for my LCD TV hor
  21. Yes you can. I changed both the lock for my metal gate & main door, cost me around $60. My neighbour just changed her metal gate to wrought iron gate, she told me she paid around $160 only. My contractor Patrick heard our conversation & commented very expensive, I think he charges lower.
  22. Hi, I am interested to get one roomba. But I am still hesitating if I should get it locally or from overseas. Cos buying from overseas = no warranty, if touch wood, anything happen to my set, I can't approach the local distributor for replacement/repair. However, getting it locally would mean that I can't go for the high end model as they are way too expensive
  23. I didn't go for a fridge base & washing machine base in my new house. My fridge just stands on the floor while my w/m has those plastic brick legs. The reason I bought those brick legs was from a suggestion by my cabinet carpenter, he said just in case my w/m leaks, water will not damage my w/m base.
  24. Don't get upset, mate. Brother MaCe is the kind of straight-forward person who gives frank comments with no extra decoration. There are times when people just feel bad (or lazy ) to be too aggressive by calling the IDs/contractors everyday to chase for quotation. Everyone of us who engaged Patrick knew that he is always busy, you just need to bear with it & be the one pushing for quotation. But once your reno starts, he is on the ball & become the one reminding you to buy stuff like basin, taps, sink, toilet bowl etc. One tip to share, try ringing Patrick before 9am, he may have the time to answer calls
