Hihi Tech-savvy "uncle" Actually for SERs residents, Flat owners are allowed to sell only after the following, whichever is the earlier, subject to HDB's prevailing policies:- a. expiry of seven (7) years from the flat's selection date and after they have collected keys to their replacement flat or; b. five (5) years from the effective date of purchase of replacement flat. *If there is any subletting of the replacement flat, the minimum period of resale will be extended to make up for the subletting. (extracted from www.hdb.gov.sg) I reckon the agent gave you the wrong information

Hi, I believe most of us respected the SPF in the older days when we were younger. But being more educated and more widely travelled, many locals have began to lose respect and faith in our SPF. I don't deny they look good in all their brand new (never been used) body armour, weapons and shiny new impreza police cars, however, they are really a far cry from their compatriots in places like Australia. How to respect them when a good majority of them practises Tai Chi 13th stroke from the top brass to the bottom (guys will know because we served NS...haha). In the past, used to see them cycle round housing estates on bicycles but these days, hardly see them walking round housing estates. Only notice many of them strolling in shopping centres and airport in air-con comfort. Guess we just have to wait for another big "Honest Mistake" to be committed at blk 79 before they will wake up their idea

Hi Meepok, What u said is true. Last Saturday, was awaken by some 6-8 teenagers playing and shouting at the playground downstairs around 1.30pm. Called the TP NPC, a patrol car came after 20mins. the moment it arrived, the teenagers ran in all directions. Instead of coming down to chase them and book them, they just drive off. In Australia or the states, If anyone try running off at the sight of a police patrol, that's it man. The guy better be prepared to be chased and mazed. Guess what?? The group proceeded to 8th floor sky garden, called them again to inform and update them. Said they will send someone down to book them. I waited 30mins. No sight of Police... Kids still playing a fool around the garden. Called them 3rd time at 2.15am. The police officer who answer gave all sort of execuses. I was really tired then so didn't give him a piece of my mind. The police in Singapore are really too pampered and having too good a life compared to their western counterparts. They are all show and no action, better suited to model police uniforms and equipments for Law enforcement equipment manufacturers. That's why we need to rally the support and help of all civic minded neighbours to "scan" our little neighbourhood for undesirable characters and activities. If everyone adopts a "BO CHUB" or "non of my business" attitude, then I rest my case

Hi Alister & Family, Long time no see also. Was not in town very much the past few weeks. So when is the next Kopi session?? Seems like there's alot of catching up to do.

Hi, According to HDB reno guidelines, no drilling or noisy renovation is allowed on weekdays after 5.30pm and on Saturdays and Sundays. If you encounter any, take note of the unit number being renovated and call HDB EMAS on 1800-3258888 to inform them of the violation. They will send someone down to check and warn the contractors.

Yo bro, looks like we both have jia lat neighbours... BTW, anyone have recommendations on where to get cheap shoe racks (the outdoor type)?
-
Some neighbours are just plain inconsiderate (bu zhi dong). Maybe you want to "mark" the "territories" outside your unit by placing plants or shoe racks etc. Otherwise, they will take for granted and soon, you will have a Forrest on your level.

Hi Meowie49, I'm thinking of getting a wine chiller as well. Am just worried about the power consumption. Hope you can advise. Thanks

Hi All, Heard from my friend that there was a case of cars being broken into at our multi-storey carpark today. Understand that the windows of the affected cars had their windows smashed. Guess those of us who own cars have to be extra vigilant and help keep a look out for suspicious characters lurking around the estate.

Hi, To be honest, having lived in Singapore since we were born, we should know there is little LTA or govt will do to solve the problem unless they are willing to convert the whole TP central road into one solely for pedestrian (which is highly unlikely). Those neighbors who live directly above or close to the traffic lights will experience the worst noise. This is especially so when cars or motorbikes have to accelerate hard during the green light to move off. Guess the only advise i can offer is to look into sound proofing the whole house or the rooms. But the cost may be high because of the materials involved.

I also got fined $3. I'm very upset with the way the town council does things. Firstly, there is no notice of payment every month. They think everyone only have their bills to pay. How to remember?? The worst part is after paying over $50 for the so call S&CC, the corridor outside my house is still so dirty after having moved in for over a month. No one comes and sweep or wash the area. Why are we paying S&CC when we have to sweep and wash the area outside our house on our own. We should all email / call the town council to voice our displeasure. Perhaps they will wake up their idea when they get an overwhelming number of residents from 79 complaining.... !!

Hi Alister, As spoken the other time, I personally feel that as the head of a ministry, he should answer for the lapses in security and the incident. As a developed country, Singapore should be no exception from other countries. How do they expect us to respect the system if they just gonna "tai-chi" the whole incident to some low ranking staff. Below is what i call setting a good example, taking responsibility and answering to citibank's shareholders. Likewise, I think he owe us, taxpayers an answer for his ministry's action. "On April 11, 2007, the parent Citi announce the following staff cuts and relocations.[6] On 4th November, 2007, Charles "Chuck" Prince quit as the chairman and chief executive of Citigroup, following crisis meetings with the board in New York in the wake of billions of dollars in losses related to subprime lending. " Maybe his paycheck too fat already.... so tai-chi to save backside and fat bonus... haha

Hi, Nice pictures u have got there.... talk about the devil, recieved an MMS from M1 asking us to keep a lookout for Mas... Now the garmen making their problem our problem...

Hi Ms White, I don't think the dryer will contribute alot to electricity if you use it once a while. Something is wrong with our bills definitely cause i took out all the specs of all my frequently on electrical appliances, did the sums and no way i could have accumulated such usage. I'm waiting to verify my meter outside my house tom cause the meter door is stuck, cannot open....I wonder how the guy from SP meter open it.... Guess he anyhow punch in some figures into his machine. I think we should all monitor our usage and feedback to those "Genius" in SP about how they derive the bill.
-
Hi Gadgetman I almost got a heart attach today as well. Log in to SP power to check my utilities bill for Feb 08. Electric charges was $105. In Jan 08, was only $0.73. I'm using gas heater and the cost is only $13. Don't know how the electric bill can be so much as I hardly use the air-con last month. Only had it running for 1hour most nights. SP power using tempered meter izit How is this possible?? At my old place, I turn on 2 aircons everynight and the electric bill is only $140 avg. All new neighbours, please beware........

Hi Zanie98, Good to hear work on your house is starting. Remember to let me know when your house is ready. I want to go Kaypoh also
-
Hi There is such a fee actually. It's called a Sanitary Appliance Fee. It is charged at $3 per fitting. So if there are 2 toilet bowl, It will be $6. Just got my bill that is why I know
-
No worries shay_d. It's vice versa. It's also our blessing to be able to meet friends like your family and zanie98's. Yup. I feel that the food served at the foodcourt is so so only. Guess it's all the packaging like stall design, menu photos that makes it look good. Frankly, I rather walk over to central to "hunt" for food. At least the prices there are more affordable
-
Yeah, the photos are very retro. Good job on the blog. Brought back fond memories. I still remember going to Toa Payoh park with my folks to take pictures when i was 2 or 3 years old. Still remembered the old hawker centre at the interchange. Very small and hot. Dreaded going there everytime i took a bus with my mum Haha... I understand how you felt. I went thru the same thing. Cannot sleep the few days before selecting flat. All my choice units gone Looking on the brighter side of things, we are lucky to get a Home here at Toa Payoh. Being so central and well served. And it's so near to Orchard. My favorite hang out place

The worst part is, these poor residents who have paid so much for their units will probably not find any avenues for recourse. What is HDB thinking? Their planners must all be slacking... Public housing is now getting so dense and in their bid to generate more revenues, allow high bidders to operate 24 hours coffeeshop at our doorsteps. Although I get to enjoy my TV comfortable at home, I really feel sorry for these folks. This is socially irresponsible.... Low floors owners of 79E...reckon your only avenue is to feedback to MP until he cannot tahang... then probably they will do something..... Haha
-
Yeah man. Good luck to those living on low floors of blk 79E especially those on the 2nd to 4th. Will be terribly noisy. The 24 hours kopi may be bad news for residents... e.g. drunks fighting, crowded car parks etc... Those who purchased units above the kopitiam are screwed by HDB... In my personal opinion, They shouldn't allow kopitiam that are so close to housing to operate 24 hours....

Hi, I don't think any would be thief would be so stupid to scale the walls above the sky garden. The ceiling height from the sky garden is quite high to start with. Unless he has spider man DNA ....haha If you are really worried, can consider installing a Home alarm system... at least gives you and family a peace of mind
