  1. I’m so surprised to see the CCTVs up and running so soon. I thought the proposal would take at least a year or two to be approved with all the typical bureaucratic red tapes in the civil service. Anyway, to the people who have made this possible. Thank you on behalf of all other residents who may not have logged in to this forum for a while. This will definitely deter would be trouble makers from gathering there and would make our estate more livable.
  2. No lah. I think they "HDB" mean that the sky garden can be seen clearly with a high power binoculars from the surrounding blocks (HDB Hub office).... But the HDB highly paid officer are too busy cracking their brains on how to "Tai Chi" such problems to watch the sky garden lah. Wow. Ultimate..... These HDB and SPF people, if they lose their jobs, can make very good public relations people. All the Marcom degree holders better watch out for competition....haha
  3. Hi Jacky. Wow.. you're famous overnight liao... Read the new paper report... Meowie and you are both heroes. Kudos to The New Paper reporters who highlighted our plight........ And for the comment that nothing much can be do to secure the sky garden, i really hope that something can be done...... HDB spokesman really can talk cock without blinking an eye. " Security factors are carefully considered in the design of HDB flats and precincts". If that is really true, why is there such a heated debate here. HDB think we residents "Makan already, Very Free hor". A public housing estate does not always mean the common areas should be made public. Especially if it is out of sight from the public.
  4. Hi, Onzzz lah..... Please include me for signing "ceremony".... Don't think it is against the law..... Don't see any law forbidding concerned residents from collecting a petition. Please update us on date and time, will definitely find time to meet up to sign..
  5. Hi, Actually the solution to this problem is very simple and logical. Since the root of all this problems is linked to the sky garden and the fact that it is completely out of sight of our residents and concern neighbours, HDB or TC can just start solving the problems from there. One solution is to restrict access to the 8th and 12th floor garden to residents via a card access system or putting these areas under 24th hours CCTV surveillance. Definitely, the initial cost to implement these measures would be costly but in the long run, these cost can be defrayed by the cost saved from having to repair public properties or repaint walls due to teenage punks vandalizing the area. However, with the inflexible mind sets and countless red tapes among our public offices, this measures may never materialize. HDB and Town council should look to Hong kong where many public housings have restricted access via card system. To all the RC, SPF, HDB and TC folks reading this thread, please seriously consider these suggestions which will definitely create a win-win situations. If you want our votes, better start listening to the people (Singaporeans) seriously.
  6. Hi all, I believe the men in blue are being screwed upside down by their "almighty" masters. With their eagerness to flood singapore with a large pool of foreigners, they may have under-estimated the increase in the number of crimes and do not have sufficient manpower in the SPF to deal with these problems. I remembered we never had so much of such problems 10-15 years back here before all "the Others" started flocking in when the flood gates were open.
  7. Hi, Before you contemplate on forming your own party, better apply for PR or refugee status in some western country first hor... Don't later end up staying in the same "condo" Mati Selamat used to live in . Confirm free food, free drinks plus free 24 hrs security guard. haha......
  8. Channel NewsAsia - 2 hours 48 minutes ago SINGAPORE: A 73—year—old Chinese man was found dead on the floor of a flat in Toa Payoh Central on Thursday night. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at about 11.05pm. The deceased had upper body injuries and was lying in a pool of blood. A knife was also found at the scene. Police has classified the death as murder, and are investigating the case. — CNA/yb
  9. Hi Mee Pok, Yeah. right on... complaint to them about SPF, doubt they will do anything much. As the chinese saying goes.... Beat Dog, must see who the master is..... Dog loving neighbours... I think you will totally agree with this
  10. I agree. Instead of giving excuses all the time and stepping up patrol for only short periods of time, HDB designers and planners should also do their part more actively and look for long term solutions to help ease security issues in Public housing area. They should be following the examples of their HK counterparts. Although the flats in HK don’t look nicer than ours, most flats have restricted access via security access card systems. Shouldn't first world countries have first world public housing with first world technology?
  11. Hi meepok, Ya lor. We have to take extra care when walking back from MSCP. Stupid HDB design, so many dark corners where would be criminals can hide and ambush. Also don't understand how HDB can issue permit to allow 24hrs coffee shop to sell alcohol round the clock when they are so many families with women and children living upstairs. Wat's next? Maybe we will see "massage parlours" popping up in HDB Hub? For all unhappy residents with the crime rate in our estate. Please arrow emails to the IC of Toa payoh NPC and cc MP if necessary.....we tax payers are the customers..... as highly paid public servants.....they better give us satisfactory service. Commanding Officer : DSP Chong Keng Fai Raymond Email Address : Chong_Keng_Fai@spf.gov.sg Address : Co-location with Toa Payoh Community Building at 93, Toa Payoh Central, #01-02, Singapore 319194 Tel : 1800 - 251 9999 I think they should introduce a “Worst Unit” award in the Singapore Police Force and let the public vote. I will definite vote for Toa Payoh NPC.
  12. Hi all, Yeah man. I totally agree with you. The people drinking at 24 hrs coffee shop are a potential problem. And really, where the **** are the police. Shifted in so long, never seen them on foot patrol before. Especially at night when all sort of weird people gather in and around our estate. In the past, I would see them cycle or walk around. Are the Police officers too pampered these days that they have forgotten how to use of their legs?? Toa Payoh NPC... better wake up your idea..... You guys are giving your station a very bad name. Our estate is just next door and you guys are letting criminals S**T on your head. Well done........ Do something about all the crime in our estate please.......
  13. Hi All, Don't assume that what you are paying to SP is correct. Read on.... Better system needed for meter-reading (http://www.asiaone.com/News/Mailbox/Story/A1Story20080730-79575.html) SP SERVICES is back in the news again over inflated bills, after a similar incident two years ago. The company also announced that it is upgrading to a new billing software as part of its overall business-system upgrading plan. It has clarified that the overbilling was due to underestimation of April's bills, resulting in higher June electricity bills. Despite the liberalisation of the energy industry since 2003 and the existence of so many participants in the New Energy Market, electricity-, gas- and water-meter readings for households are still done manually. SP Services (formerly Power Supply) provides meter-reading for generation companies, retailers and their customers, and data management for billing purposes. Currently, SP Services field employees visit households to take down the meter-reading for billing purposes. Probably for cost reasons, actual readings for each customer can be taken only once every two to three months, and SP Services has to make an estimate for the months before the actual meter-reading. This explains the recurrent billing disputes encountered by its customers. The present billing system also does not help customers track and monitor actual consumption on a monthly basis. An effective and efficient IT system is fundamental to SP Services' business mission. If it is spending a lot of money on constantly upgrading its IT system to cope with changes in technology and business requirements, why is it not investing in systems that can track actual consumption of customers and consumers directly? This should not be costly with today's technology, if we can be billed for actual usage of fixed telephone- and mobile-line airtime as well as on-demand video and online games. Perhaps the industry regulator, the Energy Market Authority, can look into getting market participants to develop the necessary IT systems for the benefit of all - service providers, their customers and the consumers.
  14. Hi, Yup. I agree with you. I have observed the meter and it seems to be spinning very fast. Faster than most meter I have seen. I called SP power to feedback earlier. I was told they would send a technician down to check the meter. However, If I wanted them to test the accuracy of the meter, I would have to pay $30 plus 7% GST if it they find that the accuracy of the meter is ok. If it’s not ok, I don’t know how they are going to arrange a acceptable refund. This is pure daylight robbery man. How do you guys feel about this issue. How should we feedback our unhappiness…. It’s an obvious problem which they seem to be trying to avoid.
  15. Hi, I seriously think there is something wrong with how SP power set the meter's setting. My bill has been hovering around $100 every month despite me only turning on 1 aircon for about 1-2 hours a night. After that, i usually use the fan till morning. My big side by side fridge has 3 ticks energy rating. As such, i really don't know how my electrical usage is so high. At night, i only turn on 1 T5 light in the living room. My parents also living in a 4 room (103sqm) and uses the air con for 8-10 hours every night. Bill is about the same as mine. BTW, if i am not wrong, SP is using the "Induction Type" meter. In an induction type meter, creep is a phenomenon that can adversely affect accuracy, that occurs when the meter disc rotates continuously with potential applied and the load terminals open circuited. A creep test is when the meter is tested for the error due to creep. And ours being brand new meters, i believe the joints of the disc is super lubricated. So spin and spin our $$$ away. I have called SP to complaint but everytime, gave me the same stupid reply. It's normal, please continue to monitor. It's been 6 months and my bill are still so high. Doesn't make sense when another house that has the air-con on the whole night cost less than mine. Since everyone is complaining, i strongly suspect it's the way SP set our energy meter. Something is wrong somewhere. I suggest we collect signatures and submit a mass complaint to SP or MP. Otherwise, SP, being a typical ex-garmen set up, will just continue to Tai-chi....... We can't be letting them suck away our hard earned $$$$ like that. It is not right........
  16. Let's go down to the Toa Payoh CC and ask if they have Tai Chi classes for working adults. Ask for those similar to what our million dollars minister are taking. We need to learn this to survive in the office. So that when we make mistakes, we can Tai Chi to the person down the line and keep our low paying jobs . Alternatively, we could migrate and come back as "Foreign Talents". Our world class garmen will certainly welcome us back with open arms. Foreign Talents are first class, citizens are 3rd class
  17. Hi all new neighbours Congrats again on getting your new dream home at Central Horizon. There seems to be a growing number of contractors or IDs carrying out noisy hacking and drilling works beyond the "designated hours" stipulated in HDB's guideline on renovation and even on weekends. I hope that all new home owners can advise their ID against carrying out such noisy works e.g.hacking, drilling, hammering etc. beyond 6pm and on Saturdays and Sundays. If the IDs can't meet their dateline, they should not be doing it at the expense of other residents already living nearby. The estate is almost 80% occupied and many of the residents who have moved in deserve a good and undisturbed rest after working hours and on weekends. Every weekend for the past 2 months, I had to personally "hunt down" these units carrying out noisy works on Saturday morning and "screw" the contractors. Last Saturday at around 9am. 1) 1 unit on 11 floor, 79D hacking away on the floor despite the "no noisy renovation rule on saturdays" Today at 8.30pm 1) 1 unit on the 7th floor, 79D hacking away near the main door. So please newbies, I appeal that you advise your IDs against such inconsiderate acts. Thank You
  18. Please enlighten me....... The AIG chairman's surname not Wong right. No wonder he got sacked :dancingqueen Hit by losses, AIG sacks CEO Mon, Jun 16 02:26 AM American International Group (AIG), the world's largest insurer, has sacked chief executive Martin Sullivan after a bumpy three-year tenure which saw record losses and plummeting share prices. "On behalf of the board and the entire organization, I want to thank Martin Sullivan for his extraordinary dedication and service to AIG for over 35 years," said George Miles, a member of the company's board of directors. "We all wish him well in his future endeavors," Miles said. After the shakeup at the closed door meeting, the board announced on Monday that it had chosen company chairman Robert Willumstad, 62, to replace Sullivan as chief executive, as AIG struggles to weather its credit crisis. Company officials said in a statement that Willumstad was precisely the person to help right the company's course. "Bob's broad managerial and financial services experience makes him the right person to lead AIG through Monday's turbulent markets, drive further organizational change and rebuild shareholder value in the years ahead," Miles said. Willumstad, who has been chairman of the board at AIG since November 2006, promised more stringent oversight, as AIG struggles to correct its course. "In the coming months, we will conduct a thorough strategic and operational review of AIG's businesses and their performance," he said, adding that "results over the past two quarters have been unacceptable." "We are determined to get the organization back on track as quickly as possible and ensure it is well positioned for future success," AIG's new CEO said.
  19. Of course they can live with it....they are drawing such a big fat pay cheque from the Garmen. Talking is always so easy and free..... They don't live like we do.... how will they ever understand the difficulties we face everyday. They are really too much, now stretching both left and right hands for our hard earned money, their fat pay from the taxes singaporeans pay, and their so call "privatized" energy company make us pay more profits to them.
  20. A lot of my friends and myself have been getting calls from some PRC women claiming to be doing so survey for some electronics factory in Hougang (can’t remember the name). Obviously, there are no big electronics factory In hougang area…… Just tell them you’re not interested to reveal information or speak to them as they are not Singaporeans. They will just get pissed off and not call you again… As for companies claiming that you have won a prize, tell them to mail it or courier the prize to you. If not, tell them straight not to “smoke” you and hang up
  21. I know a friend who imports his own brand and is marketing it himself. I'm not very sure about the brand though. If you are interested, PM me. I can pass his contact to you.
  22. Hi Alister, Don't you worry. I'm all behind you on this issue. Not that I'm hard hearted but i would rather donate my hard-earned money to a true blue "Born-in Singapore" citizen who needs $$ for medicine or because he's too old to support himself. Look at the number of old people slogging away in our food courts..... I rather be helping our own Singaporeans as many are neglected by our own garmen who is so quick to offer aid (also hard earned $$ from Singaporeans) to China. Now, Mediacorp is way overboard.....launching a charity drive show here to raise funds. Will we see China or PRCs doing the same thing for the many less well-off singaporeans who are in need of food and medicine?? I really doubt so...........
  23. Yes, I totally agree with you. NTUC Fairprice is crap. The prices there are not cheap compared to some other supermarkets or provision shops. For one, I don't like shopping at Fairprice because I hate the idea of Garmen earning more $$$ from me. I rather spend my hard earned $$$ at some privately owned enterprise.
  24. Hi Yel, I really sympathize with what you are going thru. This is the typical neighbour from hel* that most of us dread meeting. Seems like there's bound to be at least one such neighbour on most floors. If you take a walk around the blocks, you will find scores of such neighbours parking their bicycles and stuffs indiscriminately along the common corridor. There's even one on my floor who parks his 2 baby pram, 2 bicycles and incense burner all the way to his direct neighbour's doorstep. Really pity the family living opposite him who have yet to move in. My old place didn't seem to have this problem despite the fact that it's a really old estate and the folks there are older. But this has more to do with the super "ON" town council people. There used to be alot of bicycles and stuffs being left along the corridors but the town council actually come down, took photos and paste them in strategic places. Think some got removed when no one claimed them. I guess it will be difficult talking nicely with your neighbour as they seem to be extremely unreasonable and uncivil. You may have to resort to calling the town council to feedback your grievances.
