  1. Hmm, seriously dun think the flood got much to do with how u roll the toilet paper leh. Unless of cos u use 1 whole roll of toilet paper at 1 go! If there's no problem with the toilet flush system, then I dun think it will flood cos of the toilet paper, unless u drop something more solid into the toilet bowl.
  2. Thanks. Having quilts at home definitely adds warmth and coziness to get a country feel. In fact, I want everything at home from table cloths and table runners to cushion covers and bed covers to be quilted. But unfortunately, I only have so much time everyday, can't devote all my time into my quilting projects. Currently working on a single bed quilt for my daughter. Most likely can only complete by the end of the year. If you are interested to purchase quilts, you can try Quilts n Sew Forth at Aliwal Street. That's where I took quilting lessons. The quilts there are so beautiful, sure to make u !
  3. Great to know that your reno is smooth and seamless! You are right, this is the type of ID which every forumer prayed to have! Sometimes it's not so much of how much we pay them, but how well they could deliver. Must post up your pics soon! I'm sure your country home must be beautiful!
  4. Yup, bought them all from ebay. Did you also purchase yours from ebay USA? There are also some people in S'pore selling country stuff in Yahoo auctions, maybe you can also check it out. Surfing and buying from ebay is so addictive! Nowadays, I really try to avoid going to ebay, cos once there, I'll be very tempted to buy this and that. I found an US website which sells quite nice country-style items. Recently bought some decorative plates and cushions and had them shipped over via vpost. The prices are very reasonable too, compared to what people are selling on ebay. They also have an ebay store, though they offer more in their website. http://www.collectionsetc.com/ Thanks, I've checked out the website, but I think it'll be quite troublesome to buy from M'sia right? What if there are problems with the items, then arranging for exchange/returns will be quite a hassle. Do you have any idea of the price range there? Btw, how did you know it's the same company as the one in IFC?
  5. We've managed to rearrange the furniture in our living room last two days. This will probably not be the final layout, as we are still waiting for the partition to be installed. But at least it makes my home looks more organised. Still cartons lying everywhere, but I've professionally kept them out of the photos. Our new 37" Sony LCD TV... Love this baby quilt, which I hand-sewn it myself. It measures abt 43" x 57". Took many months to complete it, but it's well worth the time and effort! I will eventually hang it up in a quilt hanger, just using it as a "temporary" table cloth, so as to add some colours to the living room. I'm looking for a quilt-hanger with shelf but can't seem to find it anywhere in Singapore. Will look around again and hopefully I can have better luck. A showcase of some of my country treasures... My living room still looks very bare and plain. Need to put in more effort to bring more "life" to it. Have not installed shelves, added cushions, done up the feature wall etc. But at least we could see that things are slowly taking shape.
  6. Nice floor plan! Looks spacious for a 4-room. Which area is your new flat and what is the floor area?
  7. wow oda, your drain buster looks powderful man!!! We've moved in for over a week, so far so good, no problems with the toilet bowl (I hope it stays this way!). Cos what u guys have experienced is definitely a big concern. HDB obviously has very bad QC, and their follow-ups are definitely not prompt at all. Many times, they will choose to sit on the issue until something major happens. Remember I posted here abt my ceiling problem? Took so long for them to rectify, we made noise big time, and thank God it's resolved now. I find their contractors very irresponsible and "bo chup". When they repainted my ceilings, they used my roller brushes and damaged them, when they shd be using their own! Not just that, they did a really lousy paint job and had my bedroom doors and floors all spattered with paint! We feedback to the officer in charge and he offered to send his contractor to clean up but we decided to do it ourselves anyway. God knows what other problems or inconveniences they would bring us!
  8. Thanks! Love it when I first saw it on ebay! I might wanna get another similar one for my MBR but looking for something like blue shabby roses. Cos my MBR is a blue blue theme.
  9. Hi Banzai Hello here from a fellow country-style fanatic! Looking forward to seeing the progress in your cosy country cottage!
  10. Yes, the $1200+ bedroom set I mentioned is from IFC. Thanks for the url, I will take a look. But not sure if the quality and design will be similar for M'sia & S'pore? If you are looking for L-shaped sofa, you can try furniture mall. I have seen some shops doing custom-made sofas.
  11. I bought the phone from ebay USA for about S$70. Saw similar ones selling in S'pore at about S$100+!
  12. Do you know what are their opening hours? I might want to drop by after work this week, since they are near to my home. Saw a bedroom set consisting of bedframe, dressing table and bedside table which I like at IFC, going for a promo price of $1200+. Might be going down again this weekend to get it. Still lots of furnishings to get...dining table, study table, book cabinet, storage cabinets...running out of budget already
  13. Wow, that's really costly. Way out of my budget. What did you buy from them?
  14. Thanks! My piano is actually in a mahogany finish, very close to black. Blends beautifully with the teak wood furniture in my living room. We had the living room furniture arranged last nite, as our new LCD TV is arriving today. Will try to post up some pics tonite.
  15. Yeah, heard they've got really nice country-style furniture but have not gone there yet to take a look. Do they sell bedframes? What's their price range? I'm looking for the white french-country kind.
  16. Spam...spam...spam!! Hello here from your neighbour from Blk 91. I just moved in abt a week ago, even though carpentry's still not done. Fyi, we DIY everything except for flooring, windows and carpentry. So in my opinion, 15k is possible but u need to do very careful budgeting and planning. Just to share, this is what we've spent so far : Flooring : $6k Painting : $400 Capentry (kitchen cabinet, MBR wardrobe, sliding door for HSH, partition, shoe cabinet) : $9k Feature wall (MBR) : $100 Windows & shower screens : $1k Total : $16.5k So, if u take away some carpentry items from what I mentioned above, then $15k is possible. But like what others have mentioned, it's very easy to go beyond our budget, cos during the reno process, we will always be tempted to add in extra items. In my case, we DIY, so we can choose to get things done gradually according to what we can afford. We didn't engage any contractors/ID, only sub-contractors to get the various works done. This has also saved us lots of money but u need to have the time to do lots of coordination and planning. If you are interested, u can PM me for contacts. Good luck on your home reno!
  17. Thanks! We were contemplating on whether we shd paint over it but decided to keep it's original colour, so as to retain the cottage look. Cottage Craft has really cool stuff but I find their items overly priced. If budget is a constraint, you could consider other alternatives. We are thinking of building a brick fireplace in the MBR to serve as a TV console, but not sure if the effect will turn out nice.
  18. We finally had the piano shifted over yesterday evening. It's only been a week, but somehow feel that the house is incomplete without our musical companion.
  19. What kind of metal fence are u thinking of doing? Wrought iron kind? Y didn't u ask Country Concept to get it all done? I think u can call a window supplier to check. I believe they are able to do it for u. After painting the rooms, I realise that the colours are too dark. I initially wanted to have pastel shades. Sigh, the paint catalogue really turns out to be quite different from the final look.
  20. We had our Singtel DEL activated yesterday, and this is the colonial-style shabby chic telephone we bought from USA. Besides the princess wall murals I posted above, we also bought some wall borders for the living, study and MBR. During my packing, I realised I had two big boxes of country-style home decor! Didn't realise I had bought so much, dunno how I'm gonna fit them all into my home. Will take pics and share as I slowly unpack my stuff.
  21. Actually we've moved in to stay since last Sat. Even though the uncompleted reno has caused us some inconveniences, my girls are still thrilled to stay in a new home anyhow. I've promised to let them have a princess-themed room and they are eagerly looking forward to it! For their room, we had it painted in ICI Dulux Fantasy. Check out the cottage-look window sill... Some princess themed accessories waiting to make their way into my princesses' room. Princess night light Princess wall murals
  22. Before the move... After the move... A closer look at some of our teak wood furniture... Some light-hearted moments of my girls having fun during the painting process... We've finished painting the living, study and children's bedroom. Targeting to finish painting the MBR by today.
  23. Yeah totally agree! A very fresh modern country look indeed with all those French white furniture. I hoped mine will turn out to be something similar. I initially wanted everything white in my home but on 2nd thoughts, it's not practical at all, esp when I have 2 young kids at home! End up, all turn out black by the end of the year. I especially would want my kitchen cabinet to be white but cleaning up will be an issue as we are gonna cook and bake quite often. The only place I've maintained the white theme is the MBR. The rest of the rooms and living room, I'm basically using teak wood furniture and other dark woods. Gege, care to share how much u spent on reno and who's your ID? I love your bathroom mirror. Where did u buy it?
  24. Thanks, but my home looks very rojak now. It looks like a jungle, more than a country cottage. Some of my furnishings are still not in yet. Guess will take another mth or so before it looks more decent. Will try to take pics of my progress and upload here to share. I'm losing sleep big time, not used to staying in my new home yet.
  25. Hi Banzai What u can do is, open up photobucket in 1 window and renotalk in another. Under each individual image in photobucket, there's a section on the image url. Copy that url. In renotalk, if u look in the menu bar above, there's an "insert image" icon that resembles a tree. Click on that and paste the url into the dialogue box that appears. This will allow yr image to be displayed directly. HTH!
