All Tanglin Halt Road Neighbours! Report In Here!

Was anyone aware that a man jumped down from Blk 90 a few hours ago? My HB went opp to buy some things and when he walked back the same way 20 mins later, saw a man lying at the foot of the blk. Some medics were already attending to the body. Sigh...very sad to see such a thing happening in our new neighbourhood -
Thanks so much! Will check it out!

Hi jule/sakae Thanks for sharing. I had discussed this with my HB previously and he said that the issue only comes in if we decide to sell the flat in future, that's when we will need to hack it to its original condition before HDB comes for inspection. He used to be an ID and has done this for his clients, so he should know better. Anyway if we think about it, anything we do to the flat such as feature wall, window grills, partitions etc add on additional weight to the place. In fact, we've visited some neighbours' flats and realise that some of them also level the slopes the same way. But we'll think of ways of how to level them, so as to minimise the amt of weight added to the ledge. Am I right to say that the carpentry for your platform is fixed to the wall? That means there's an empty space between it and the slope?

You should be able to get from most DIY or hardware shops. I don't have pics now but will try to post up pics of the completed racks this weekend.

Yup, DIY.

I've recently seen an ad in ST on a lighting warehouse sale at Eunos Warehouse 3. The prices look really attractive eg hanging lamps and ceiling lamps from $9, wall lamps from $5 etc. Has anybody gone for the sale? Appreciate if you could share on the quality/variety of lightings available and very importantly, the service provided. For those who are interested, the locations are as follows : Kaki Bukit Road 2 #01-08A (opp Geely Showroom) 10am - 9pm 167 Geyland Road (main road, Lor 3) #01-01 11am - 8.30pm

Yesterday, we started work on the L-shape racks for the household shelter. It was tough work cutting up the metal brackets and by the end of the day, we were about 70% done. At the same time, we also started painting sealer for the household shelter and skirting for all the rooms. Will finish painting for the household shelter first, so that when the L-shape racks are completed, we can start to move over some of our barang barang. We hope to finish all painting in two weeks time, so the air-con can be up. We seriously wonder why is there a sloping window latch done by HDB. Now racking our brains to see how we could beautify the area and make it less obvious.

The air-con installer came for their 1st installation at 11am to put up the trunking on 14 Mar. Felt so paiseh, as hubby was stucked at work at the last minute and couldn't be there to open the door and give them instructions. One of the workers called me at 11.30am and I had no choice but to rush down from work at 12 noon. Thank God my office is just nearby! Felt so bad to make them wait for me for 1.5 hrs and hold up the installation. Nevertheless the workers were waiting patiently when I arrived and didn't scold me! This is a great attitude that we would love to see anywhere in the service industry. Think the installation of the trunking for the three rooms were completed by 4pm. They took less than 4 hours even though we didn't arrive on time. Great job done! Closeup of trunking at MBR Trunking at MBR Trunking at common bedroom Trunking at study room Up next, we'll be painting the house before the installers return for their 2nd installation to install the air-con. $3.20psf from Soon Bee Huat. Did you also buy from SBH? When we 1st bought the tiles, they looked quite dark. But after laying everything, I felt they looked just right! Thank God! Don't worry, I'm sure it will turn out fine! Having a country theme doesn't mean to make everything look traditional and classic, a lot to do with colour combination and decor too. Hope to see photos of your home reno when it's done. Can PM me pls? Thanks.

Thanks! The tiles are not really "wood" but designed to look like wood. We will be having lots of wooden furniture and fixtures at home for the added warmth and cosiness!

I went back to my flat last Sat and when I wanted to take the lift to go downstairs, some guys from Faith Methodist Church were already on standby there. Initially, I thought they were neighbours coming to say hello! They passed me the flyer for the plush toy balloon workshop too. See how, I might bring my kids to the workshop tomorrow, so me and hubby can get things done at home. They've been running around in the flat and getting bruises and cuts from all the falls. What worries me are tools like hammers, saw, cutters etc lying around. -
I just had my 1st air-con installation today for the trunking, takes probably about 3 hrs. Usually air-con installation is done after the floor tiles. They will install the trunking, then allow the owner to do painting. Thereafter, they will come for the 2nd installation to fix the air-con. In fact, my installer says it also depends on the colour of the painting. If the room is to be painted white or a white shade, you can do the base coat and 1st coat, then ask them to install air-con. In this case, only 1 installation is needed. For rooms in solid colours eg blue, yellow etc, they will do 2 installations.

Thanks. I believe the sale is for their decor items. I've actually asked them for a reno quote for my flat, nearly fainted when I saw the price!

I just realised that I've missed out an important thing...to share with all my floor plan...
-
Yup, really love the rustic look and feel of the tiles. We originally wanted lamintated flooring but decided against it, as it's difficult to maintain. So, when we saw these tiles at Soon Bee Huat, that was it! Actually wanted to get a shade lighter, but they were out of stock! Was told we had to wait for up to 2 mths for stocks to arrive.

Great to hear that! Are you also renovating your home now? We shd share tips and ideas

I don't think it's possible. So far, have not heard of any HDB lifts with CCTV. For condos, yes. Just imagine all HDB residents in S'pore requesting for that, the town councils will be so busy! -
My damage is $1850 for the Toshiba Sys 3 non-inverter. Price is nett, inclusive of GST. It's probably more expensive than Allbest but the installer is someone highly recommended by a trusted relative, so I needn't worry about his service, workmanship etc. My relative is also in the air-con business and has used his services for many years. He said he could recommend a cheaper installer but workmanship is terrible! So rather than run into disputes and unhappiness later on, just pay a bit more for a peace of mind. He told me that many companies will say that they employ their own workers for installation, but in fact, they sub-contract out to other installers. Hence, not much quality control there. The material used is Armaflex. As for other specs, not too sure, cos my hubby is the one who's liaising with the installer. I will update all again after my air-con installation. If interested, can PM me for his contact.

After considering the various options, we have decided to go for the Toshiba Sys 3 non-inverter. The aircon installer will be doing the trunking tomorrow. According to him, he recommended us to go for non-inverter cos of the various reasons : - Inverter models tend to have more technical issues than non-inverter models - Spare parts for inverter models are expensive, almost double of those for non-inverter (if really suay suay they break down after a few years and we need to replace) - no significant cost savings for consumption between inverter and non-inverter (he says it's a marketing gimmick to get people to buy inverter models!) As such, he felt that it's not necessary to pay $700 extra for the inverter models. Just sharing.

Agree that someone should make a report at NPP before something really happens. At least it will keep the police on their toes and patrol the area more often at night. I've been going back everyday for the past week due to my home reno. Notice that there's this group of 3 or 4 young Malay guys loitering at the void deck of Blk 91 on certain nites. Not too sure if they are residents there. Hopefully not drug addicts or anything like that. -
We met up with the air-con contractor, Mr. Lim yesterday and he explained how the trunking will be run. After considering the various options, we've decided to go for the Toshiba system-3 non-inverter, since we do not foresee turning on air-con for the three bedrooms at the same time. Mr Lim recommended us to go for the non-inverter model as there wouldn't be very significant difference in cost savings between the inverter and non-inverter, as what many others had claimed. He felt there is no need to pay $700 extra for the inverter model. Also, he highlighted that spare parts for the inverter model are very expensive to replace, almost double the price of those for the non-inverter model! Mr. Lim is an air-con installer and not a salesman, and we're glad that he didn't push us to purchase the more expensive inverter model, as compared to a lot of sales talk we've heard from other companies. He was strongly recommended by a trusted relative, thus I believe there shouldn't be any problems. The only issue is, there will be quite a bit of exposed trunking, due to layout of our rooms. Mr Lim said that he has considered that and tried his best to run the trunking in a such a way to minimise the unsightly trunking. Many people would consider constructing false ceilings or L-box to conceal the trunking. However, we've decided to leave the trunkings exposed as concealing them will create lots of problems when the air-con runs into problems in future such as leaking etc. We'll end up having to dismantle the beautifully constructed ceilings! Besides, having a false ceiling or L-box would interfere with the designs/theme we have in mind for our bedrooms. We have arranged for the trunking to be installed tomorrow at 10am. Thereafter, we'll proceed with painting, and he'll return for his 2nd installation to put up the air-con.

If I'm not wrong, the monthly washing should include the stairs. This is how it goes for the current place that I'm staying. Dats why we are paying the monthly S & C charges! Maybe one of us should call the branch office to complain. They prob not doing their due diligence as they felt that our neigbourbood is not fully occupied yet, hence no need to clean it so thoroughly! -
Nope, mine is 4-room 90 sq m. Yeah, living room is quite spacious but u shd see my bedrooms. Hiyo, so small I have problems with space planning.

Hi neighbour! Nice and cosy reno! Hoped that mine will go smoothly, so I can move in real soon! !!
