  1. I used to play the piano but hardly got time nowadays. My daughter is taking lessons now. Old liao, so must step down for the young generation to take over. So next time when you hear piano playing, it's probably from my place. Yeah, agree with u that a piano takes centrestage in the living room. I've always dreamed of having a grand piano in the middle of my living room, but must move to a landed property to fulfill this dream.
  2. Hehe...u so nice, want to volunteer your time ah? Thanks so much for your offer but we shd be able to finish by the end of the week. Want to quickly finish it, so we could shift the furniture into the respective rooms and move over our piano this weekend. It's still at my parent's place.
  3. We FINALLY moved on Saturday, 28 June. We engaged a mover to shift furniture and personal items from our home and our parent's home. Everything went well as planned. They started shifting at 10am and by 2.30pm, everything was done. All in all, we shifted over 10+ pieces of new furniture for our new home and 20+ cartons of personal belongings. It's just crazy, as we initially thought there are not much to shift, but the more we packed, the more things we realised we have! Now my place looks like a jungle, or rather a maze, with furniture and boxes of stuff strewn everywhere. Guess it'll take a while for us to tidy and unpack everything, esp since our carpentry has not been completed. Over the weekend, we finished painting the study room and living room. We intend to complete all painting by the end of this week. Been really busy and no time to post up new photos, will do so in a few days time when I'm more settled in my new home.
  4. Any comments on the Samsung front load 7.5kg washer WFJ1061GW? It's selling at $712 at Best Denki and comes with a free DVD player. Called Hong Liang who quoted $600. Good price for a front load but not sure abt it's quality and performance.
  5. I feel that sometimes it also depends on your luck. The extended warranty gives us a peace of mind definitely. Like my mum's Bosch washing machine and LG fridge, she's been using for over 8 years, but none has given her any technical problems.
  6. Yeah, make sure they rectify all defects before you pay in full. Cos once u do so, then siao liao! We all know how most of the IDs would shirk responsibility and come up with all sorts of pattern when u have paid up all outstanding balance. All the best. Looking forward to seeing your final masterpiece.
  7. Thanks again for the sharing! They really have some very cool stuff. Will check them out soon!
  8. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure your country home would look beautiful! Pls share more of your photos when reno is completed. Have you purchased your furniture yet? I've only bought the living room and some bedroom furniture, all teak wood from Picket and Rail. Saw some country-style bedroom furniture at IFC which I liked. Will prob make a trip there again soon.
  9. How much did Cottage Craft quote u for the fireplace? I know their charges are not cheap also. I've asked them to quote for my kitchen cabinet. $10k+, similar to Forest Woodworking.
  10. What is the name of the shop which u mentioned above?
  11. Wow, your fireplace is so cool! I actually wanted a fireplace too for the living room, but too bad we've already bought our TV console. Might wanna DIY a simple one for our MBR, but due to space constraints, would prove too much of a challenge. Who is your ID? I think it might be quite challenging if you are attempting it for the 1st time, cos the proportion of sand, cement and water needs to be right. If not, it will either be too difficult to plaster on the wall or not adhere to the wall well. Also, need to consider your time constraints. Might be more practical to ask a sub-contractor to get it done, just pay him for workmanship. Will PM u my tiling contractor's contact. You can check with him on his charges.
  12. I'm also eyeing the LG GR-M492YLY. Will also appreciate comments from those who own it. My mum's LG fridge is still going strong after 8 years, as such I'm considering getting an LG.
  13. Can anyone comment on LG or Samsung washer? Any models to recommend? Thought of getting a Bosch but slightly over my budget.
  14. Thanks for your compliments. Have you finished renovating your home? Any photos to share?
  15. Not me, my hubby did. If it's me, it'll prob take 1 year to get it done! He used to be an ID, so he's quite familiar abt how to get such stuff done. The materials we used are bricks, cement and sand. Probably cost us less than $100 for the material cost. One alternative is to purchase those nice nice bricks, stones or wall tiles from tiling companies but they are expensive. One box (depending on design and quality) costs at least $200. Heard from my hubby that the bricks he bought cost only $0.06/piece, so if u buy 100 pieces, it costs only $6. But it's really quite tedious to get it done, he took almost 1 mth to complete that small section of wall. We only had time on weekends to work on it. How much did you pay for your TV? Think u mentioned it's 37"? I'm also looking ard for an LCD TV, shd be going for 37" too. Is yours full HD or HD ready? Just wondering if there's a huge difference in picture quality for both. If u r interested, I can pass u my subcontractor and carpenter's contact. Pls PM me.
  16. Hi lauahkua Oh dear, very sorry to hear of your bad experience with Forest. Kind of unbelievable as they claim to be the best in terms of workmanship and designs! And thank God I'm not engaging their services, as I find their prices really too absurd! I'm engaging my relative who does carpentry...she did a country style solid-wood kitchen cabinet for my mum abt 7 years ago. To date, my mum's cabinet is still in a good condition, except for some scratches which can be touched up with some refurbishing. Back then, my mum paid only abt $3.5k. The kitchen cabinet which my relative quoted is abt $4.8k, which is still acceptable as price of wood and materials have increased now. Not forgetting that I have requested for a lot of additions to my cabinet. But I agree that all wooden carpentry needs lots of maintaining, cos moisture and water can easily damage them. Really gotta make sure we clean everyday after cooking and keep them dry.
  17. This is gonna be a very busy week for us as we are moving this weekend. I know it is a mad rush and our reno is far from being completed but we had no choice, as the new tenants for our current flat are moving in on Sunday. Kind of frustrating, as painting and carpentry are all not done. Just gotta put up with it for the next few weeks, and gradually finish up the painting and furnishings when we move in. Might not be too bad an idea too, as it was really stressful running in between two flats over the past few mths to get things done. The more pressing issue now is to start packing, and I've just got started! Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly this week. Looking forward to my home sweet home! Thanks oda! We are gonna work on the living room feature wall soon, hiya been talking abt it, but no time to purchase tiles at Soon Bee Huat. Will slowly get it done after we move in this weekend.
  18. The only complaint we have with the lightings is that most of them are too dim. Can't help it, cos they come with the standard 40w or 60w bulbs. This is the sacrifice we have to make for wanting such classic looking lamps. A preview of the feature wall in our MBR which we DIY.
  19. We had all our lightings installed over the weekend...finally! Very pleased with what we had bought! Dining room Living room Kitchen Toilets/Household shelter MBR Children's room Study room
  20. HDB hacked and fixed my ceilings as promised. Everything, including the repainting, was completed last Wednesday. Now it feels good to have a brand new ceiling. Keeping my fingers crossed that the problem will not happen again. Can't believe that this problem actually took up 3 weeks of our time! How the ceilings looked two weeks ago... And now...
  21. Hi Jessie I'm still in discussion with my carpenter on the carpentry works, have not started yet. Will probably only complete in 3 weeks time. Will post up pics in my blog once it's completed.
  22. When all else fails, time to go to the media liao. Besides writing to STOMP, try TNP, WB, SM or ST Forum. Last resort, can even go to the MP. If I rem correctly, there's a meet the people's session at Blk 46-2 on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Friday every mth from 7.30 pm. Suggest those having problems to take photos of the backflow, most impactful to take those with your big business inside. Then email as a joint petition to those media I mentioned above. When things get blown up in the media, there is no reason for HDB to sit on it. Time for them to start kicking man!
  23. Thanks. But my sense is, it's not gonna be cheap. Judging from the prices I see fr US websites
