  1. HDB gave me the same door as your common toilet one... I hacked it away How much is it by the way?
  2. Should have. But when I signed, it was either aircon or kitchen cabinet. Dont think can take both.
  3. My ID came down to my totally empty place just to get a feel of the area even before I signed with him. Also, a few other IDs from other company also indicated they were willing to go to the site to take a look. There are many things they may not anticiapte from the floor plan so it may be good if they took a look so they can quote u better.
  4. Interesting idea... I may try out a plastic piece wrapped in aluminium or something... See what I can salvage from home All these may seem wierd to some ppl but I just like to do some DIY here and there
  5. To take that picture, I was hanging from a rope attached to the rooftop like a civil defense DART member... Just joking!! If you look at my floor plan, my service balcony faces my aircon ledge so I can take the photo from there... Thats where I hang out my bamboo poles too... Yeah, Max did mention that he will wrap up my stuff the next time he goes down but I thought I better do it myself just to be sure... Maybe get him to wrap another round to be kiasu
  6. I think you may be right. After some further consideration, I think water getting trapped inside is a possible problem. Think I will go remove the plastic this weekend. Have to go back to the drawing board then... Thinking of using a cardboard to act as a shield/shade instead. Maybe with aluminium wrapping to reflect heat... That'll be the next DIY.
  7. The table is made of "Solid Birch & MDF core with Ash veneers and lacquer finish" according to BB website. I'm surprised that those coasters are not enough to contain the heat of your pot... So the patch cant be removed?? Anyway I expect everything to wrap up by end July. Thats one month off schedule I got it from a friend. He has some left in his factory... Think u can find in some hardware shop too... I think you may be right. After some further consideration, I think water getting trapped inside is a possible problem. 8. I had some plastic film used to wrap industrial machines and had a crazy idea. I noticed that the insulation on my aircon compressor is exposed. So are the 5 metal taps on the side of the compressor. Being on the highest floor, they are subjected to even more sunlight and rain since there is less shade. Prolonged exposure to the elements will result in cracking and wearing of the insulation and poorer aircon performace. I observed that almost all installers leave the insulations exposed when they can do something to protect it. So I climbed out onto the aircon ledge and wrapped the insulation with a few layers of the plastic film. I think it will at least be able to keep it dry and increase its lifespan. I also draped a piece of film over the taps to reduce the amount of rain water that may get in contact with it. I took care not to block any vents so the compressor should not be affected in any way. What do u guys think of my little DIY? Will it affect the aircon adversely?
  9. Today, I brought a few rolls of plastic films used to wrap industrial machines to wrap up my newly delivered dining table. Didnt want any of the workers to put their equipment on it and scratch the surface I have nowhere to hide the table as it's too big to be shifted into the rooms for lock up. So I guess I'll have to write a few warning posters and paste them on everything they are not supposed to touch. Hope that wont make them want to touch it even more! 10. Think the new guy's name is Terrence. He followed Max to see me on 2 occasions but not sure who he's pairing with. Maybe going out with a few of the old birds to learn? It's easy to start the blog. Just start a new topic in the T-Blog forum. You can put up anything u want!
  11. Your bathroom lights are the same as ours. Get the bigger one, its much brighter Some of your other lights are similiar to the ones we got also... How about a breakdown in the prices? I got mine from Chelsea Lighting.
  12. Wow thanks... Didnt know I can inspire and motivate others in their reno Do start a t-blog and post some pics once u get ur keys Thanks... Its still only 50% done. Hopefully we can achieve the look we want with all the carpentry up. So hows the new place? Any problems? Is the cuizino hob still problematic?
  13. Thats very near my place Think max has a few job in that area now. Do start a t-blog to show us your progress!
  14. Today we took delivery of our first piece of furniture! Its the Barang Barang dining set which we bought 2 months ago. I actually wanted to postpone the delivery cos my carpentry were not up yet and I dont want the workers to treat my table as a place to put their tools. However, BB could not reschedule the delivery so I had no choice but to take it. The delivery was prompt and fuss-free. As a recap, I got the dining table at the warehouse sale for 50% discount and the chairs during their store-wide 50% discount. I was expecting the table to have some defects as it is a warehouse clearing piece and I distinctly saw at least one scratch on the table top. But to my surprise, the piece that arrived today is in very good conditions! Either they gave me a new piece or somehow they managed to remove the scratches. This is definitely a bargain find for us, only $868 for an entire BB dining set. We will also be putting up a mirror on the dining table wall since it is quite bare now and also the FSM wanted us to do so. Thus, we trotted down to Ikea and bought the 160 x 70cm Stave mirror in the same colour as my dining set. Cost us only $99 which is a lot of savings compared to asking the ID to make. This is one of the few large large mirror we could find at a budget price. At the same time, we bought 4 of the Vacker closet organiser box for putting in our wardrobes as a replacement for drawers as well as to allow for easy access to clothes. We asked our ID to customise the shelves in the wardrobes to fit 2 of these on a single shelf nicely. We saw a lot of nice stuff like the laundry shelves that can be put in the service balcony but all these will have to wait till everything is up. Now we're waiting and waiting for the carpentry to be installed. The fabrication has started for 2 weeks and I am hoping that they can install during the 2nd week of July. Will have a lot more pics to post then
  15. How much did u pay for this unit? High COV? High floor? The condition is very good! Was hoping for an AMK resale initially but the COV priced us out of the mkt Luckily managed to get a flat from ballot...
  16. Finally confirmed the wardrobe internal design after much considerations. Went to Ikea for inspiration Initially wanted a lot of drawers but then we decided that too many drawers may limit the flexibility in the future. So we did more shelves so we can buy those Ikea fabric rectangle containers to act as removable drawers for clothes. Anyway here's the design:
  17. Barang Barang furniture are expensive but there are ways to get them cheap too Once in a while they will have store-wide member sales or warehouse sales. Can be up to 50% off even for new models. If you see my blog, I got a dining set for more than 50% discount from BB during the member's sale You dont need to be a member to go to the sale, just keep going to the website to print out the pamphlet and they will give u the discount too. Dunno when is the next one though.
  18. Yup it looks cool... But coolness comes with a price... It's $89 per bar and will cost $267 for 3 bars to light up the whole cabinet So maybe its good u dont have top cabinet?
  19. According to royal fanco, these are the differences (besides dimensions): 1) Compact - Smaller - Same shower head as Alpine, smaller head than Protek (there is a cheaper verion of compact with cheapo looking white shower head) - Only 1 LED indicator (On indicator) - Pink and grey rings ard indicator 2) Alpine - Mid size - Same shower head as Compact, smaller head than Protek - 2 LED indicators (On and overheat indicators) - Orange and grey rings ard indicator 3) Protek - Largest size - Large rain shower-like head - 4 LED indicators (On and overheat indicators + 2 others I forgot what) - Grey rings ard indicator I was told the pressure for the 3 are similiar and you're paying extra for the added safety features in each model + the different shower head. So I got one Alpine ($195) and one Compact ($185) instead of the Protek ($215).
  20. I chose serta over sealy and simmons. I think in SG, simmons spend more advertising dollars than serta. Thats besides the point though. I chose my bed based on comfort and serta has some of the most comfortable beds around. Sealy is close also but their pricing for an equivalent bed is slightly more exp. BTW, we got the serta missouri and package incl bedframe, bench and many other stuff. A very good deal
  21. We have been wondering if we should install lights underneath the top kitchen cabinet to illuminate the table top and achieve a cosy look. The thing holding us back is the cost - probably about $100 incl wiring and switch. So we were happy when we saw this Grundtal kitchen top light at Ikea. It comes in a set of 3 and all 3 will join to a small distribution box. A 2 pin plug extends from this box and can be connected to a normal socket. So we're going to ask the ID to get the carpenters to mount them, conceal the wiring behind the cabinet and hide the box inside one of the top cabinets. They should be able to pull out the 2 pin plug from the cabinet and connect to one of the sockets along the table top and I will then turn the lights on and off from there. No need to pay for switch and wiring Best thing is it cost only $49 and looks good. No additonal cost for electircian too. No ugly wires and very neat. I think one plug can connect up to six of these lights. I chose the white one. There is also silver colour. Hope it turns out nice and cosy Grundtal Spot Light There is another kind of Grundtal spot light which comes in a bar. It looks good as well but we didnt get this cos firstly it costs $89 per bar of 3 lights and secondly, the lights are too concentrated at one place and we cant have the flexibility to distribute the light along the kitchen top. But it looks very pro if you can afford a whole row of these! And the wire system is such that you can connect as many as u like but u only use one plug to thurn them on.
  22. I think windpac and airvac are similar... I'm not sure about the transparent blades for the white one but my colour comes in tranparent blades. Thats the main reason why I got it too Here's how the packaging looks like
  23. Finally, my windows are up. I have installed casement window in my balcony with fixed panel below. Since HDB doesnt want to give us full height window, we decided to come up with our own version HDB forced us to use tempered glass for the fixed panel... Extra cost again... But the overall result came out alright. Wonder if it will look as nice with the grilles up next week... I wish I could live without the grilles but my place is too high and the railing is too low for me. In fact, I dont really dare to peer too much over any of the windows Balcony windows Before After Service balcony windows - Casement + sliding
  24. I see that from your signature you got the AirVac? Mine is the WindPac. I think its the replacement for the airvac. The difference is in the blades. The Windpac one is transparent but I think the airvac one is not. Got mine incl regulator for $260. No chance to test the fan yet cos they will not fix up the regulator till after my carpentry are completed
