  1. actually the number of tiles needed & the cost of tiles can be easily calculated based on your floor surface area & the size of tiles. You'd be surprised that based on the the tiles are not expensive, but it's the manpower.. IMO, not asking for top-ups is no big deal. But out of curiousity, does anyone know what happen if you choose a much cheaper tile? Will the contractor/ID refund?
  2. yes..I was told they are top-hung casement too. But I was also told that not all hdb flats allowed to install this for the toilets. It seems that it will depend on how your external wall structure/surface outside the toilets was built. Heard this mumbo jumbo but I didn't quite understand I like your windows. The window fabricators I spoke too doesn't provide this felt strip thing. I find this very cool as it makes sure that there will be no window gaps . Can PM me your window contact? Thanks !
  3. I visited the company over the weekend, and got the same quotes. It's probably standard pricing. I liked what I saw, esp. the clear arcrylic which I thought was an economical alternative to expensive glass. Give ths same effect but needs less cleaning! Only concern is the latch. I didn't like the cheap plastic quality (think wear & tear ) . Friends have also feedback that the sliding panels get mis-aligned over time & will jam. The other alternative is the aluminium bifolds that most people install. Seems that the price of this has risen as I was quoted $260 for one recently versus an earlier quote of $180. Maybe fellow forummers can confirm this? If the price difference between alum. bifold & pd has narrowed, then I would think it makes sense to go for pd. Still whichever one you choose, wear & tear cannot be avoided. Guess must use with tender loving care so it will last longer
  4. The folding door is nice. I don't see any tracks. Did Ho Bee get this for you?
  5. Hi kel...wow..I'm blown away by your pics. Some pretty good ideas! Amazed that you actually installed so many fans...they're very nice. But, am I right that you installed the fans under a false ceiling? No concerns? I'm agonising between the fan & false ceiling for my hall. btw, is there any need to have a steel or glass backing for the k. cabinet? As the walls are tiled, what is the purpose then? To keep the tiles clean?
  6. thanks Mel, bunbun for clarifying..for a moment I thought got hidden cost . Good luck to your reno Mel. Hope you will put up updates to share with everyone...
  7. Hi Mel Doesn't Ho Bee apply for the reno permit? Isn't this supposed to be done by the contractor? appreciate if you can clarify...thks !
  8. Dear Mr Chong Thank you for replying and your kind advice. Realised that I got the "fan" & "chong" wrong. I'm born in the horse year, and my bedroom is in the SW sector. Can I still sleep in the area? Appreciate your reply. ....regards
  9. Dear Mr Chong I got a new place & was planning to start my reno & move house in the first half of this year. But this is not a good year for me as I "fan tai sui". I did pray to Tai Sui during the new year, but did not do a second prayer scheduled for later as my father passed away suddenly (was told cannot go to temples when in mourning). Now, I heard that I cannot do reno too. Is it because of tradition, custom or fengshui I have no idea. I'm clueless about such things, but would want to do what's right. Would appreciate if you could offer any advice on if I can carry out reno or what I should watch out for as I didn't want it to get any worse. My place has been empty for a few months. The front of my block face north. Mine is a corner unit with the main door facing out east (but there's a another corner unit at the end). Thank you.
  10. haha.... at least they are scientific.. probably inexperienced, & just follow the books.
  11. Hi evyone I'm toying with the idea of using sandstone or slate for bathrooms. Have checked the web but found conflicting info about their properties. Not sure if they are suitable for bathroom or not. Would appreciate any advice. xie xie
  12. Saw one at at an exhibition last Dec. It's stainless steel & has some kind of remote control to operate it. But when asked, I was told that it cost $1000. I told the salesman that for a $1000, I rather hang the clothes manually myself.... You may want to refer to www.ezziliving.com to check it out.
  13. Hi h4happy just to clarify..must the items be indicated as "Optional" in the contract before you can do cancellations? What's the practice here? Will IDs allow cancellations after the contract is signed if it's not indicated as optional. Appreciate advice so I'll do how to nagivate/...thanks
  14. missyling I like such pictures/posters too. Art is subjective, so go with your heart. If you really like it, then get it. But bargain off the price. happy shopping!
  15. my inner voice was telling me the same thing too. thanks for the reminder. appreciate it.
  16. not to take the HDB transacted price as 100%. In my 1 year of flat hunting, I've come across agents & their sellers requesting to under-report the transacted price so that the seller can keep more cash. Indecent & illegal.
  17. Hi ervyone my designer has proposed setting up a ceiling to floor wooden divider at the living entrance so as to define a foyer. Windows are on one wall on one side of the divider. However, I was concerned if it's alright as I wanted to set up a altar table at the wall on the other end & the divider would partially block the altar & also the windows. Not sure if buddha will be happy about it The divider's made up of a few timber planks & spaced out. Would appreciate if anyone can advise. many thanks... altar >>>>>> XXXX (divider) d o o r windows *********
  18. ahko noted your reply on how to read the measurement of the kitchen cabinet. Didn't know it was supposed to be top+bottom Now it adds up. my kitchen will have quite a similar design as yours - with a tall unit at the side as larder. So, I guess the length of this unit should be added & included in the total measurement of the cabinet in the quotation?
  19. You know - interior design is a highly regarded skill overseas. I only wish people who go by the title could treat their profession with pride. Thanks JuzChris & all who have responded. Appreciate it very much!
  20. Hi I'm just wondering....how do you really tell a person's an ID & not a contractor in disguise... sorry if my question sounds silly, but I've got a resale to renovate & have approached some IDs. Frankly, after speaking to a few, they either talk or act more like contractors. A couple has done so-called space-planning but I was surprised that it only involved drawing grids & shapes on my floorplan. I was expecting something more professional than this level. Is that how it's done here? Really at my wits end. And I just got quoted $36k for a 3-rm. Is that decent?
  21. (phew!) thanks MaCe...it's a load off
  22. I did not consult a professional master for the open door. Only check for a luck date & time, and did it the next day after collecting keys. I was concerned about getting fine for mosquito breeding & just cannot wait (seller vacated 2 wks before). Been goin to the flat every week to spray insectide too. Is damage done? What should I do now? Help pls
  23. Hi I got hold of the mysterious red book, and was quite amazed by all the contents. Really wonder how the ancients can come up with all these knowledge long time ago. It's hard making sense of everything. I was trying to see when will be good day to start renovation after CNY. Can anyone advise what's the difference between po du 破土 & dong tu 動土? Thanks in advance!
