  1. This is to give those who are looking for uncle to have his confirmed appearance somewhere. If not they will think he purposely fly aeroplane. Yes. the waterproofing looks like grey. (although i've not done the water proofing yet, i saw it before)
  2. the tilers started work today at my unit ... still plastering the wall ... hopefully they can finish and start tiling some wall tiles and lay the waterprooofing by today. Uncle was here at around 1.20pm and he left at around 2pm.
  3. wow ... your tiling very fast ! Mine has yet to start as the sand was only delivered at around 3pm and the tiles at around 4pm. When the tilers appeared at around 1.30pm and saw that the demolition team haven't clear the debris, they decided to call it a day. I thought that at least they can do some plastering ... hiaz .... half a day delay liaoz. ..... btw, uncle appeared at around 10.30am at my place and left at around 11am
  4. For hood/hob, why don't you consider EF? I can pass you a contact at Best Denki IMM. The sales executive can give you a discount. I bought the $888 package. Cheers.
  5. I'm staying in the unit that they are renovating so i can monitor their progress for these few days
  6. Uncle just came and left my place after taking measurements. Apparently, I now need to plaster my walls as the previous owner did not plaster them. Happy chasing Uncle
  7. i'm not using your group of tilers. Uncle is using another one which he said is also of the same quality as the group of tilers doing my place has been with him for around 10 years?????? Will update the pics soon
  8. Gaku: You also start the hacking today? Uncle told me he starts 2 units today. Think it's yours and mine ...
  9. ivy: Think Uncle went to my place first before he went to yours. My hacking starts today and he was here with 3 workers (2 indian + 1 malay) at 9am sharp. He left at around 10. As my area is very near yours, likely he popped there after he finished giving all the instructions. Will post the pictures of day 1, including Uncle @ work on my blog soon Now's half-time break and the workers went for lunch. Hopefully they can finish all the hacking by today !
  10. Nice tiling works. Very efficient I'm praying hard that the same group of tilers will do my place ..... will have to check with Uncle later ....
  11. No. My hacking starts on 5th May. Uncle told me they will be here between 9-10am. The tilers never drop anything. Maybe they are doing your unit. My unit will probably be another group ba ....
  12. aubrey: Your PM is full. I don't have a t-blog. Instead, i have my own blog. You can find my blog at: http://ourhome-rejuvenation.blogspot.com Btw, the tilers came to your place on sat? They didn't appear at my place at all. I'm starting my hacking tomorrow. Hope Uncle remembers. Will PM you my h/p so easier to contact / communicate. Not convenient for me to go to RT all the time. Cheers.
  13. I wonder if uncle is also using the same group of people for me ... mine starts tomorrow and tiles will come in on 7th. If it's the same group of tilers, unlikely that mine will complete tiling by this weekend ....
  14. When I did my reno 8 years ago, I also used solid surface. The counter top installation was very fast as I saw them do it myself. 1 day to install and join the pieces in place. The next day about 1-2 hrs to polish and grind the top. If nothing goes wrong and in schedule. Ah Soon should be able to make it
  15. looks like your reno is progressing well
  16. Smallboy: I totally agree. However, to be fair, I anticipated the issues that will/may eventually arise when we signed on the dotted line. The next nearest quote is at least $3k more than uncles. No doubt that we may have less headache monitoring the works, i also cannot be assured that there will not be any problems. I rather use that 3k to buy the necessary things to furnish my kitchen and toilet. In fact, it's more than sufficient. Regarding the quality issue. I will certainly not compromise. As we're staying in the house, either me / my wife will be able to monitor the progress quite actively. Hopefully this will reduce the amount of rework necessary. Since Ah Soon has committed to the quality, we'll hold him to his word. For me, I'm only doing kitchen and MBR toilet and the requirements are very simple. I really pray hard that slip ups can be minimsed ....
  17. The laminates and countertop samples are with me. Will be passing them to familyof4 tonight. You can pick up from her. Uncle die die have to complete each step by the time line he told me ... if not i'll be stuck as i'm staying in my unit for the entire duration of the renovation.
  18. For the price we're paying, there's something to give. We just have to put in more effort in project management. In my case, I call him literally everyday to chase him for things. I also do some of his things such as arranging for temporary termination of gas supply myself as Citygas need 3-4 working days in advance to arrange. If I wait for uncle, he may forget and i would not want to know the end result. Same thing with the tiles / laminates ... For those who're unsure whether hacking, etc is going to happen, you can PM me for Ah Hai's contact as he's the main man co-ordinating the application of HDB permit Doing my 2-cent worth to help whoever is in the limbo as a result of Ah Soon's overload
  19. Cut out is different. What i meant was that you should try to remove the burner head and check whether there are holes underneath. If there are, you can probably see your piping for gas/ gas cylinder. That's what i'm referring to. Tecno hobs cannot remove the burner head (duno why) ... so it's very difficult to clean. Turbo hobs have holes underneath the burner heads. So far, only EF and Indesit hobs don't have holes ... Your layout is probably a L-shape (like Native02). Mine's straight. Don't need to mount the rack too high up, just above the sink will do.
  20. For coffee tables, etc. Can try King's furnishing at bishan area. Their price reasonable for the quality they're giving. After sales support is also good because i got them to change my item after i found some defects a few days after. THey did that without any complaints
  21. Hi ivy, i'm worried because we're full tile sink/stove support and for the entire lower cabinet. So will be using tiles for the worktop. Need him to see whether the colour co-ordination and quality of tiles is ok. If not ok, no time to reselect the tiles.
  22. You can actually remove the "head" to check whether there are holes below. The hobs are built above the worktop/cabinet. So if you're looking and their are holes above, any spillage (e.g from soup, porridge, etc) will likely flow down to below your hob -> i.e. cabinet. EF is actually italian but not sure whether MIC ... but anyway, almost 90% of all stuffs are MIC anyway ... For franke sink, there's an option for storing sponge but we didn't choose that design as we need 2 big wash areas. We keep our sponge on a sponge rack mounted on the wall. Soft closing -> individual preference since the soft closing will wear off eventually. However, it helps to reduce the slamming sound .. which can sometimes be annoying.
  23. He also flew my aeroplane yesterday. He was supposed to be at my place before he goes to yours ... haha ... Will call him today to finalise tiles ... if not dunno when sia .... my unit starting next tues ... HENG ! 1 day after his holiday!
  24. we bought EF as the hobs do not have holes underneath the burner. This is good for us as it won't result in spillage to the cabinets below. The Tecno ones cannot be removed so they cannot be cleaned. Turbo ones have holes so they don't work for us either (although we initially wanted to buy them). Shop around and decide as it's still early. Franke sink - yes double bowl. Choice limited but saw what we need so ok. It's stainless steel. Don't think it's the matte type. Normal claytan WC? it's personal pref. I actually didn't choose the brand because that's the one on promotion .. haha ... plus it's one-piece with soft closing. Yes. $388 with wash basin and tap. The cheapest WC + sink combo is already $299 without tap. So we're quite happy when we saw the $388 3-in-1 promo. You can see the promotion every sat on straitstimes life section. Genova industries. Hope it helps.
