Jason is limiting Ah Wei's carpentry jobs because he said he wanted to ensure Ah Wei's quality is maintained and the stress level is managed. That's why Jason said that some of the jobs would be given to Ah liu or subcontractors like Ah Bee (Ah mei's boss, etc)
-
When you're planning for the shelvings and pull out racks, please ensure that you tell the carpenter what sort of design, etc you want. For my case, they used their own initiative. In the end, the shelves' legs part are inside, some flushed, like cha pa lang ...

Oh ... so Jason went over to your place after mine? He was there to inspect the carpentry. Ended up the subcontractors have to do more rectification. Can only revert by next friday. Toh Yi is me me me Jason said he's not working tomorrow as he need to wrap ba chang.
-
my carpentry went up within 1 day but there are alot of areas that I need them to rectify. Some obvious no brainers include: 1) Some gaps between the doors are too big to the extent that you can see the shelvings. 2) The fixed panels for my lower cabinet was installed in a wierd manner and you can see the edges. 3) damaged interior laminates which they intend to cover up using silicone. 4) Bad installation of my hood. Slanted to one side and they didn't estimate the height. Will provide more details in my blog ...

plastering of walls done by painters. My group of malay painter's plastering skill only so so but painting not bad. They can do it after/before laying of tiles or before painting.

Can only catch his side/back view. The link is here : http://ourhome-rejuvenation.blogspot.com/2...-completed.html

ah wei is diff from ah mei (probably ah max or amax). He wears specs and a very thick gold chain. I have a pic of amax in my blog. Is he the same person we are talking about ?

Yup, i think waterloo is aubrey. My painters have finished my unit. They may be coming to yours

I'm glad you're mentally and physically prepared I was also like you laying cardboard boxes and protection plastic sheets around. I was happy I did it because it really helped to protect my marble floor If you order from LSH / SL, the delivery will be as promised They probably need the toilet bowl so that they can reach the higher parts of the wall when they do the cementing works

Aiyah, Uncle's aeroplanes can be managed if we maintain a network of his clients. Just need to know aga aga when and who he will be meeting and we can just get each other to pass the message. Ah Tan also told me about the bottle neck with electrical works. In fact, his team (Ah Tan and Ah Seng) are the only ones doing the work now. The rest of the electrical guys have been sacked as they have been giving Uncle and Jason **** lots of problem. Plumbing is actually sub-con to a co that has 5 groups of plumbers running around the island. For a small job like mine, they already took half a day. So it's quite normal that if there are many jobs in a similar area, they cannot cope. As for painting, I think Uncle also sacked quite alot of groups. The current ones (3 Malay guys) are good Unfortunately, if they are the only ones around, they are also quite stretched. Jason is now making sure that each section of work (plumbing, electrical, painting) at each unit is completed before the team moves on to the next. It will take a while to normalise the now chaotic situation but i believe they can do it Oh well, my painting works have been delayed for more than a week but luckily they are still in time and completed the job within 1 day before the carpentry guys come tomorrow Just a final note on Uncle. We've chosen uncle because he's the cheapest and most sincere. He's also not the calculative type. In my previous experience with IDs/Contractors, for every single thing I ask to do e.g. installing toilet accessories, switches, etc, they count to the last item. With Uncle, he's not calculative. No doubt I've had my own fair share of frustrations when trying to get in touch with Uncle, at the end of the day, I would still have chosen him over my 2nd lowest quote guy because we felt that he was more honest and transparent to us. To be fair, my deadline to Uncle was tight as I'm staying in my unit for the entire duration of the reno. If I had the luxury of doing my reno over 3 mths, I don't think i'll be that frustrated

Seems like they've hauled away all the debris Tiling can start tomorrow !
-
Your progress looks good Glad that everything is back on track
-
Looks good The lines are clean. Will they be laying the skirting tomorrow ? Technically they have finished ?? That's fast !
-
Ivy: I agree with you. As in my blog, i only complained about Uncle's aeroplanes. So far his quality is acceptable to me and my wifey for the price that we're paying. Our so called contractor/ID we engaged 8yrs ago was around 30k and they gave us crap ... not really worth the money paid ... and we didn't even do the kitchen and toilet floor and wall tiles ! so uncle's pricing to me was the determining factor. Instead of complaining, I've actually came out with some simple pointers to uncle's prospective customers who need him to give them quotations. I will come out with pointers on various parts of the reno for reference too (after my reno is completed)

If Ah Tan's doing your electrical, the default is MK (which they used for mine). If you need the number to call Ah Tan, let me know.
-
lucky to have this group as tiler. Defects are minor. Not too bad for the price lar ... haha
-
Guy: I thought you told ah how how you want to lay the tiles?? They will usually choose the best layout based on their experience if you don't tell them. Alternatively, you can paste your mobile number on the most visible area and ask them to call you if they are not sure.
-
I never do parquet so can't help. Thanks for helping to pass the message Grilles done by Ah Hock. If you need contact, can sms me
-
I told the tilers to tile all the way, using the floor tiles. This is because if I leave the place untiled, it would be very difficult to maintain if I decide to remove all the cabinets one day. Anyway, this is already part of the cost
-
The basins and WCs should be removed to allow them to hack the wall tiles. If only 2 workers, they will need about 3 days if they are fast, including haulage. Your kitchen looks quite solid. They will take a while because they also need to hack your concrete support, etc. Basically, the hackers will start from floor and up. As yours is a full unit, they will probably be getting a haulage truck standing by on day 3 for the removal of debris. Also KPO abit, is your flat on the lift landing? If so, it will help to speed up the removal of debris and hauling up of the sand/tiles
-
Fondue: It's your own home. You have every right to be "Yim chim". I was there the entire time when the tilers did their work. If i'm not really happy, i'll just speak to them nicely and ask them if it's possible to rectify.
-
Glad that you got the quote done on the spot. The final price is negotiated on the spot as well right? That's great One hurdle cleared Next one will be the masonry works once your tiles and other stuffs are selected / bought.
-
I think once you tell ah how the layout, you can rest assured that he will do a decent job btw, can you pass a message to ah how? tell him that I need his help to do some minor touch-up after your unit complete because the citygas guy drilled a hole in the box up area and the concrete top was sort of damaged (below).
