  1. Latest Update... Prices for certain items have gone up at Ang Mo... I suppose it was a matter of time before they succumb to the current inflation... But as a consolation, they're still cheaper than NTUC... 6-pack Coke $4.20 from NTUC... $3.20 from Ang Mo Everything going up... new ERP gantries and rates just announced... no prizes for guessing which direction the rates are going. And once again everyone is pleased and happy with these increases! Uniquely Singapore indeed!
  2. haha yah, I will sue the pants off all draculas & vampires! better to protect ourselves loh... got black & white at least can show sincerity mah... not say we don't trust their words but nowadays talk is very cheap and inflation very high!! Boh pian also if come in this forum and see... just make sure don't repeat the same foolish act again loh... I also don't wish for major damages... $$ doesn't go into my pocket anyway... the less trouble the better for both parties!! Then can still be good neighbours after this mishap mah My posting here is just to forewarn fellow neighbours who have yet to start their reno... like they say in Hokkien, "kiang du hoe, mai kay kiang"
  3. Hi Carelinwen, I suppose you're very right... we are at their mercy! Lucky you had it rectified fast... any delay would have caused further damage
  4. Hi Droplets, I think you can report to the service centre downstairs, the response will be faster. Just give them a call during office hours at 6256-4365
  5. Hi Dracula, I've called up a Mr Ng from HDB and he assured me that my ceiling won't collapse on me due to this stupid act... just that I got to keep a lookout should my L-boxes or false ceiling turns mouldy... what will leak has already leaked the other day... as long as the same act is not repeated, even after the tiles are laid, I should be alright. The flooring in the flat are not meant to be flooded this way, unless suay suay aircon got big leakage! The owners were still very apologetic about the whole matter... just ignorant of the consequences... now they know better... I hope! They've mentioned that they'll compensate for whatever damages to my flat due to this flooding incident. Will get them to sign a black & white as well...
  6. Hi Droplets, Mine was after water seepage then the crack line appeared... before that no crack line... Maybe u want to check with the Service Center? Your above unit occupied? Cos I believe if your upstairs did the same thing, water would have already came thru'...
  7. Hi Toppie, One of the bedroom ceiling has a long paint crack line now and a wet mattress and pillow... damages so far still minor. Just that the L-box/false ceiling area will take some time before any damages will be revealed. Spoke with the HDB people, they said you can only flood the toilets... not the other areas and DON'T FLOOD THE KITCHEN too! The upstair neighbours were still alright, they're willing to compensate for whatever damages caused. Just hope the damages will be minimum... hate to redo the reno again! HDB also mentioned that everything should be alright once the water dries up... my ceiling won't crash down nor disintegrate! As long as they don't repeat the same idiotic act again!
  8. A very IMPORTANT reminder for all who have yet to start their reno works... (1) NEVER EVER pour multiple bucket/pail loads of water on to the untreated/exposed uneven raw flooring of your new flat (except for the water-proofed toilet tiles for 4RM) in your smart alec bid to do a flood test, or to prevent your yet-to-be-laid tiles from "popping" in future. (2) ALWAYS ask or check with your ID/Contractor before performing such an idiotic act as long as you are not a qualified ID/Contractor. (3) DON'T just listen blindly to the barrage of "age-old/traditional" reno advice/tips dished out by your "unofficial head of reno master" (aka your father, mother, uncle, aunty, grandma, grandpa, maid, pet, anyone who THINKS he's a qualified ID/Contractor). (4) If you MUST do so, kindly refer to point (2). (5) BE PREPARED to be screwed left, right and centre should you perform the imbecile act described in point (1) even after reading this post, and water seeps into the occupied unit below. Just sharing my unfortunate experience... By the way, the age-old tradition is to soak the tiles. I believe there's no need for such a practise for the modern tiles used nowadays.
  9. Congrats & best wishes to meowie and hubby on their ROM! The sesame pork chop very nice
  10. Congrats on your moving in! Nice meeting you too! By the way, the roast meat stall where we had dinner is much better than the one at the corner entrance... they used to be at the corner location many years ago but shifted out and came back at the current location. 11. Hi Pooh 75, We share the same thinking bro You might wanna check out this video... it's like taking the Red Pill, if you have not already taken it 45 minutes of National Education (Recommended for those who prefer the Blue Pill) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6...46551&hl=en
  12. I'm alright for fund raising event for the China quake victims from those humanitarian charities or Red Cross, etc. I suppose it is only right for them to do so. But for MediaCrap to pull off such a stunt when only after HK & the rest of Asia has done so? It stinks to the high heavens! Why? Scared to lose face?? Scared that our economic ties with China will be at risk?? By Order from the gahmen or the Emperor? Call in to donate and also help fatten SingTel's pockets? Cannot waive the admin fee + GST meh? I think if we really wanna donate, donate direct to the Red Cross instead. Not by calling and donating via this monkey donkey 'charity' show... smells like some expensive Golden Tap lesson and the gahmen dare says "welfare" is a dirty word! tsk tsk tsk
  13. Hi alister, This Ang Mo mini-mart has been doing brisk business over at my old place in AMK, but in a much smaller and cramped shop! So I was pleasantly surprised to find a branch near to my new place Will keep a lookout for other inflation-beating shops around the neighbourhood and report soon! Hi Pooh75, Tak boleh tahan the gahmen right?? can't wait for GE2011... hope some Opposition will come and contest TPY like what they did in AMK back in GE2006! I have been weaning myself to shop less at NTUC... well, at least maybe Giant or Carrefour cos not gahmen related mah! Certain things can't find at Ang Mo then no choice the sad thing is that NTUC has been "killing off" many mom and pops provision shops all these years... the gahmen just can't help dipping their hands into any business that makes money! What next? NTUC Fairprice Casino??
  14. Yeah, some items could be parallel imports. Same brand but made in countries like Indonesia or Vietnam instead of M'sia or Thailand. An example would be the Coke sold at the Value$Shop, it's from Vietnam. As for the Coke selling at Ang Mo, no worries, they're of the same make as those from NTUC. For the beauty products, I think it all depends on the individual. Some may feel that certain countries have superior make compared to others. But based on experience, most of the popular items are of similar make to those in Watsons & Guardian. Examples of same make includes Listerine, EverSoft, Gatsby, Loreal, Vidal Sassoon, most shampoo brands, Colgate. Maybe for the perfumes some people will be suspicious cos of the great price difference from those sold in places like Taka or Robinsons. But even Mustafa sells such perfumes at much lower prices compared. So I believe the difference could be the mark-up for places like Taka, Robinsons, Tangs, etc. and also the so-called "free gifts" included.
  15. It seems like the goods at Sheng Shiong are no longer as cheap as before... it's now almost similar to NTUC. Maybe becos of their expensive advertising and lucky draw shows on TV. Although their offer items are worth a 2nd look. NTUC is cheap when certain items are on sale or offer, but even then, it could still be a few cents more than Ang Mo. For example, Jack&Jill potato chips cost $2.25 for 2 packets, while it cost $1.10 per packet at Ang Mo and only $1.05 at the Value $ Shop opposite NTUC basement. But NTUC has that Link Point system where you can get rebates off future purchases. For toiletries and beauty products, try those shops on the 3rd floor of Peoples Park Complex, above the hawker centre. The more popular shops there are Ocean, Ming Ming & Swanston. They have products ranging from hair spray, hair dye, gel, facial wash, shampoo, toothpaste, mouth wash, etc. You'd be surprised with the savings for certain products if you have been buying only from Watsons or Guardian! So you can consider getting all your items at one go to maximise the savings. Even the 2 shops opposite TPY Central, next to the Famous Tree Temple, can't match the cost savings. They used to be cheap a few years ago but no longer is.
  16. Hehe Alister, you took the words right out of my mouth! Don't always believe what the gahmen tells you... which brings me to another topic... inflation & cost savings. The gahmen tells you that NT*C has the cheapest & most competitive pricing in SG? You believe?? There's this mini-mart behind 79B at block 85, A*g M*, which sells groceries and the daily household stuffs at much cheaper pricing... it's a small mini-mart, not the mega-mart type like Carref*ur, Gi*nt or NT*C. For example, a 6-pack Coke costs $2.95 here, while NT*C is selling the same item for $3.95 and it's not even the canned in Vietnam variety. A 1.5L Coke is at $1.50, while NT*C is selling at $1.90... not very massive savings, but in these days of super inflation... "everything counts in larger amounts" If you know the cost for the common household items, you may find that certain items are much cheaper here... but of cos, the variety is not as extensive as the big boys. The same goes for toiletries and beauty items... you'd be surprised at the great price difference & savings between the shops at Peoples Park Complex and W*tsons or Gu*rdian! I'm not related to this mini-mart whatsoever... just wanna share some cost saving tips with fellow neighbours
  17. Many thanks to Yeoman and Bonkitty for showing us their homes today Yeoman, we like your master+study+walk-in wardrobe concept, makes the entire master room very big yet cosy... everything looks almost complete, just need maybe a week to clean up the place and move your stuff in... shouldn't have any problem meeting your auspicious move-in date in June liao! Bonkitty, clean and cosy concept you have... the curtains are very elegant and reasonably priced for the materials chosen. Impressive home entertainment your hubby has assembled! Got chance must come experience it with some big blockbuster action DVD! Or maybe karaoke cum mahjong session??! but must remember cut off time at 11pm otherwise will kena jialat jialat! Gui99, hope to see your home soon... heard alot about it from babymaro... we saw the impressive black door with the massive handlebar today... very bold and daring!

  20. Hehe wanted to ask babymaro to use the nick "meekia", but she felt it was too bengish so no choice... there can only be one beng!
  21. Hi Dracula, Duro has the same lock with 2 front/back-facing keyholes also... cost slightly more than Castle... but for Duro you need to self-install... Castle Lock uncle will come fix up for you... I think that shoe repair shop (with a Harley parked infront) next to the 177 furniture shop is selling Duro Locks... but u may want to check out the price from HomeFix or Self-Fix first. Duro should cost about $20+ more than Castle. Think now got promo, buy 1 get 1 free at $140.
  22. I think Daiso also selling similar fake crow scarecrows at $2... dunno effective against birds though? But experience quite a few occasion of insects flying on to the windows or rooms for our lower level units... just the other day, someone was burning offerings at the bin behind, next to the playground area... lots of flying ashes coming up into the rooms... u got to take note to close the windows when it happens. Otherwise, headache to clean up... it could get worse come the annual 7th month festival
  23. I'm just making a snide comment on our million dollar No.3 Prime Minister in case you didn't get my sarcasm.
  24. You remind me of our million dollar dictator... way past his prime, experiencing 2nd childhood, goes around the world talking c**k, come back to own country & talk more c**k, can't accept anyone not agreeing to his outdated policies. The only bird that should be leaving this kampong is you... our you want me to meet you in the cul de sac with my knuckle duster???
