  1. Hi, I would like to install a local LAN in my new place. I am looking for an electrician whom is familiar with such installation. Do anyone has someone to recommend?
  2. (Re-post under the correct thread this time) Hi everyone, I am sure there is a lot of info and sharing on good ID and companies here... I thought of starting this thread, not to "sell" my ID but to also share on good aftersales... and of coz, for everyone else to share how their ID helped them in aftersales... My ID company is Plush Living and ID is sky. He had done up 2 of my colleagues and that was the main reason I chose him. Though there were some hiccups here and there, esp on schedule, mainly due to his "useless" foreman, who is now sacked, everything else is ok. In fact, a lot of delivery men commented that the hse looks good. But the main thing which I am happy abt is the aftersales.(I had paid everything in full already) While cleaning the hse, my wife and I found a "cracked" tile. Our guess is one of the other contractors damaged it while moving things ard... We also wanted a latch in the bathrooms which were not install becos that useless foreman said no need. I also bought some cabinets from IKEA to be placed in the bathoom. So I asked Sky if he can arrange the same plumber to come in and fix the cabinets. As some of you might know, drilling walls and wood is one thing, but drilling tiles is another, and need some technique, which most of the plumbers are familiar with. We also realised some small stains here n there while we were moving things here and there. Sky arranged one sat, all the workers came in, viola excl.gif! all done, the cracked tile is changed... Latch done... Cabinets installed... and for the paint, he said he will arranged a "touched up" session after I moved in... I dunno abt the "market rate" for aftersales... But so far, I think just based on aftersales alone, I got my money worth... haha...

  4. HI everyone, Just giving my 2 cents worth. Mud3210, i got a 1.8m by 1.2m for abt 450 at the glass/mirror shop near sungei road. It is near the stretch of bathroom accessories shops next to Sungei road. I got another quote from an industrial mirror shop, quoted abt 480. I agreed with those guys who said you pay a higher price for the service of the ID. I just finished my renov. Along the way, there are some problems, some becos the foreman of the company has bad attitude, which i was unaware of, others are just wrong works done by works. Ended up, a lot of the contractors had to come bac and rectify the wrong things. However, only abt half is due to this foreman. the tiles guys came in abt 4 times, painters abt 4 times too, glass work guys 3 times, and the house is acid-washed 3 times. And mind you, all these counts besides the washing, are for RECTIFICATIONS only. And all these are all arranged by the ID. So engaging ID will save you some trouble.
  5. like u said, fixed panel door takes up space... For me, my MBR is fixed panel and common toilet is sliding. The main reason is the space needed for the fixed panel to swing out. For the common toilet, by fixing a fixed panel, it will knocked into the basin or the WC. So sliding doors are more practical. Furthermore, nowadays, the sliding door shower screen are pretty nice....
  6. hi chiang, i was like u earlier... very tempted by the promotions... some comes with aircon, some comes with hoob n hob, others offer "free" 20ft kitchen cabinet. As one of the bros said, these are all gimmicks. I try to make sense out of what they offer, and indeed, if you take a breakdown of the items and count them in total, the price stated is pretty expensive. On the other hand, another type of offer, such as, if your total amt is over a certain amt (eg. 30k), they will give aircon free, you can consider, but do take note if how they breakdown each item, and make sure you got the quality you pay for. My suggestion is, get some sample quotes, and note the average prices between carpentry (per ft/per sqft), plumbing, hacking (item by item vs lump sum) and tiling works (per sqft). Then approach recommended IDs, not companies, IDs. A lot of so-called bigger companies also have their share of black sheep, so my feel is, ID are more important than the company. the forum offers a long list of IDs from various companies. Just pm them, and I am sure they will help. cheerz
  7. so far, the two shops which i find cheapest are Poh Joo and Eng Huat Seng. Both along Jalan Besar. Poh Joo is at the start of the road (fr Lavender) on the right. The other one is on the left side, before Sungei Road. GOod luck...
  8. hi skywolf, I am also intending to get one for my foyer lights due to recommendation from my fengshui master. I found one near Sungei road, off Jalan Besar. There is a row of shops which sells lights and switches. Go to the one next to the lift lobby. If I dun recall wrongly, it is 20 plus dollars.
  9. hi I was wondering anyone can tell me where I can get cheap and good utensils for induction cooking? thanks in advance.
  10. I see... thanks applefreak... u noe where I can get the hinges / runners in SG?
  11. HI, I heard from a few IDs, that BLUM is no longer the only brand that provides damping effect to drawing closing and cabinet closing. I was wondering if anyone noe where to get them? Thanks.
  12. I finally settled for an electrician named Mr Teo. Easy going guy... his price is also reasonable...
  13. hi everyone, I was wondering whether can anyone tell me where i can get the BLUM system hinges n drawer rollers or something similar? I only know ikea has one, but it is comes when u buy their drawers, which is standard size for them... thanks in advance
  14. I dun think there is a problem. Overlaying for toilet tiles are more problematic, as the contractor needs to ensure that the water proofing is done ok in the previous layer.
  15. I think RADAC or not, is not that important. Becos, RADAC do not check all completed projects and a few only. The only good thing abt them is that firms which are registered with them have a certain number of yrs of existence in SG. Put it this way, if they can survive for so long, they will be SOME positives from them. But having said that, I think a lot of these so-called more established firms also hv black sheeps among them. To me, more importantly, is to at least get some positive referral from frens. Most importantly is to get an ID you are comfortable talking to, and working with.
  16. does that mean that combi washer and dryer is not a good idea, compared to individual washer and dryer? anyone used dryer brands like Brandt, Maytag, or whirlpool?
  17. hi everyone, I am a little lost on this one. At first, I decide on Electrolux. But someone told me european is hard to maintain. When it breaks down, problem will come, with or without warranty. Can anyone with these brands give me their comments and recommendations? Thanks in advance.
  18. besides the shops ucypmas suggested, I would suggest etronin in tampines. If you actually decide on electrolux for washing machine/dryer, you can try euromark in toa payoh.
  19. Hi nautilus, my place is going to undergo renov soon. How do I use a laptop to test for connectivity? just plug in?
  20. Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone is familiar with any professional personnel with expertise in Local Area Network. What happen was that I bought a resale flat, and I realised the previous owner set up a LAN in the house. There is 2 single point LAN switch and 1 double point LAN switch in each of the 3 rooms. I am interested in re-using them. But I dunno how. My electrician has no idea too. I hope someone here can refer me to someone who can help me. Can either email me at sanjing07@yahoo.com or PM me. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi, can I have your electrician's contact? Thanks in advance.
  22. Hi everyone.... Is 1.2k considered reasonable for exp? Stereo box, how big is ur proposed glass divider?
  23. hi everyone... I had a quote from Substance. I must admit most of the things they quoted are reasonable. However, I got this quote from Dave, their Senior Design consultant, and he quoted $1200 for ALL plumbing works. Is this reasonable? I got another quote from someone, and they charged by items, like the hot/cold inlet, basin and heaters. If the quote is as such, is it more worth it for me to get a storage heater than 2 instant heater, and request that the hot water also goes to the wash basin? Pls advise. Anyone else deals with Dave? My first impression is good. He is pretty good, though at first I dun really trust his skills as he looks young. But after some discussion, we realised he is pretty detailed person, down to the arrangement of the furniture in the living. After passing us the quote, he also said, if we find some of the items are more expensive than what others quote us, we can always negotiate again, as some prices difference are due to quality of material.
  24. really sad to hear all these issues being brought up. I think you guys shld report this to the New Paper and allow these idiotic contractor to have some karma.
