Yes, no false ceilings. Was afraid it'll make the ceiling lower plus will be a problem if upstairs have any leaks next time. We're very old school, after you see our furniture, you'll understand why.

Think we need to nego with our contractor about the granite top some more since ours seem quite expensive. Thanks for all your hard work to let me know your pricings. Bought our lights before CNY, some pics here: Living Room Lights Balcony Light Room Lights Kitchen/Service Balcony Lights Toilet Lights

Yang Guo. Thanks for the info. We'll be discussing about it. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyp.../Carpentary.jpg Any comments on the pricing for carpentary? Just met up with the contractor and he wrote down the quote for us. All cabinet are with lanminates. A few more Qs: For toilet door, is aluminum, solid plywood or nytoh wood door better? Am afraid over time wood door will expend due to the moisture. For black galaxy granite kitchen top from China. Our contractor quote us $150- 175 per feet. Wondering if it's reasonable. It's 119 square metres. I guess is normal for older flats.

They didn't maintain it well so when they handed the keys to us, we noticed the cabinet doors at the sink area was already displaced and the wood had expanded.

Bamboo Laundry Poles Vs Metal Laundry Poles

I'm just wondering if you put heavy things (comforter etc) will it warp? Heard that from my aunty it will but I find that it's unbelievable since it's made of metal should be quite strong right? -

Oh thanks for letting me know, have removed it. The previous owners have already hacked the storeroom. We intend to make a walk-in warddrobe. Have approval from HDB to extend the kitchen to the same line as the toilet wall. The hacking for all tiles, waterproofing and new tiles are all up. Windows and window grills are up. Lights have been installed except for dinning room light. Electrical and switches completed. Didn't have a camera then so didn't take any pictures then. Only started taking pictures a week ago.

Thanks for all your comments. I was just wondering if such is really true as most of us who stayed with our grandparents/parents, it was common to have a marble dinning table. I really love having an old fashioned marble table so I'll just go ahead and buy it. Anyway my motto is it's only true if you believe it. Was good to hear everyone's take on it

Here is the quote from Contractor B: http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/B1.gif http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/B2.gif This is the quote from the contractor we signed up with: http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/C1.gif http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/D2.gif

Not sure if I'm breaking any rules but the super expensive quote came from Hoe Chong Beng General Aluminium Contractor.

Hi Hi! Yes, not to worry we didn't sign up with him. Too bad, we already sign on the dotted line with another contractor but I checked my quote for painting it's 1.3K so still reasonable. I'll post the quote later this afternoon. Thanks in advance all your tips! PS: What are the pros & cons of bamboo vs metal poles. We having the same 'discussion' as you.

Yes, we felt so too. His price was too ex and you're right, most of his clients are owners of landed property.

Thanks. The procrastination was mainly because I was sick and we were almost so sure we were going to sign up with the 1st contractor until we saw his quote *faint* Yes, I'm actually scanning all the quotes so everyone can take a look for reference. In the end we signed up with Design 25 but the contractor (like all contractors) can be a bit problematic at times. Eh, sorry but who's apple? Contractor A's Quote: http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/HCB1.gif http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/HCB2.gif http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/HCB3.gif http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj9/cyprusblade/HCB4.gif Felt it was very expensive. Even after we told him we didn't need 60 lighting point (we stay in HDB, it's ridiculous), to change a few other things like reduce telephone points, SCV points etc. When the quote came back to us he only deducted 3K off and the things we told him to remove was still in the quote. We concluded at such an early stage he couldn't understand instructions, how can we trust him with our home.

Finally after much procrastination, we found a place in Toa Payoh and got our keys in August 2007. Being quite naive since this was our first home, we believed that contractors would be cheaper and didn't look at any IDs at all. We looked at 3 contractors in total. We finally settled on a contractor (again after much procrastination) in December 2007. When I started looking around at renotalk, I realised IDs might not be that expensive but too late...

Is it true that a marble table is bad feng shui? I quite like the old fashioned round marble table but I read here, under point 12: http://www.fengshuiqueen.com/abtfs/fs_unplug/thehome.html

Which is better to get? Think the metal poles last longer and are lighter.

You can go to kelantan lane in Jalan Besar, there are two mirror shops there.

Anyone knows where to buy Venetian Mirrors? Or can custom make? They look like this: http://www.venetianmirror-bali.com/ I saw one at Harvey Norman and Egg3 but the price $1100+
