  1. Day 31 Progress Sorry for the dark photos update because today was a rainy day and my handphone camera not bright enough. Enough talk, here they are. The recess in the kitchen has been filled up and tiled up. Can see the difference? L-box all done up. Door to MBR constructed and walls are cemented nicely. This will where my cove lighting will be in the MBR. I didn't hack the wall behind the pull-out hanger. I merely filled the "hole" to make the whole wall straight (can see my floorplan to view the gap). Looks nicer to me this way as there's no gap anymore.
  2. Thanks for your advice, toppie. He told me that he's bringing me to his friend's shop. My last trip to buy bathroom accessories with him was also not bad too. A few discount here and there. I believe there's a lot of trust between my ID and me. You can sense that if you followed my blog.
  3. I'll be shopping for lights tomorrow with my ID. So exciting.
  4. Yup, it's the one behind Blk 85. It went through a total makeover a couple years back and now it's twice as big as the old building. Haha... Most of the teachers that taught me have left the school due to retirement liao. Those that are still teaching there surely remember me one because I very notorious (not pai kia but mischevious) in my primary school days. It's not a bad school considering it brought me to Victoria School after my PSLE. My classmates a lot went to the top secondary schools in Singapore too.
  5. Which part of Toa Payoh do you live? Here's a list of primary schools in Toa Payoh. And there's no such thing as a good or bad school in Singapore. Even the best school also have worse students one. So it all depends on your child. CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh) First Toa Payoh Primary School Kheng Cheng School Pei Chun Public School By the way, I was from Kheng Cheng School and I still go back to my mother school when there's any event even though I'm already 25. !!
  6. Those 2 weeks of waiting for approval and appointment for hacking also very sian for me. But no choice got to wait. My ID recommended to do the kitchen kerb because the kitchen's flooring was not flushed with the living/dining flooring. At least it looks nicer this way.
  7. Yes, there'll definitely be a wavy effect on most glossy type of laminating so it's normal. My ID had told me that beforehand and recommended me not to choose glossy laminate for things such as kitchen cabinet as over time there will be more scratches and the wavy effect will be more prominent. I did chose glossy laminate for my wall feature though since I will seldom touch that.
  8. Day 26 Progress Tiling works are completed. Today the electrician came to do the wiring and stuff. They should complete it within these 2 days. Next up would be the construction of the L-box and false ceiling. Of course, time for me to go and do some lights searching. Here's the details of my electrical works for your reference; 01x new double socket S$50 01x shifting of TV point S$150 09x new lighting points S$270 01x installation of fan S$45 24x installation of lights S$360 02x shifting of 1G switch S$90 Total damage of S$965. Here's how the renovation looks like at the moment. Bedroom 2 tiling completed! Bedroom 3 tiling completed too! MBR tiling completed at last! Kerb to the entrance of the kitchen. To be continued... Noticed that the L-shaped kitchen cabinet base has been hacked off? This was to make my dining top look nicer. FOC hacking from my ID. Beside my washing machine area, there's a recess which I requested my ID to fill it up to make it look nicer. The reconstrcution of the new wall and doorway. Doors anyone?
  9. I presume you're moving one of the bedroom doors. The answer is yes. That's what I did.
  10. Hard to say where the delay. Maybe HDB late in approval, maybe PE not free, maybe ID drag or maybe no communication in between. Worse case is all of the above happens. >>>glennyuen, if you read this, your inbox is full, I cannot PM you.
  11. Wah... Window view nice still got backdrop ah... How you put the backdrop? >> glennyuen, if you see this, your inbox is full, I cannot PM you.
  12. Once it's approved, you don't need the PE to go to your house to see can hack a not. I think you can check your approval status by logging into HDB website using Singpass. The PE is there just to supervise the hacking. Approval by HDB and fixing an appointment with the PE is the delaying part.
  13. Hello, fellow 79A resident. Mine's a 90m² flat. Yes, the PE needs to be around when the hacking starts. But my PE really efficient, only see the start of the hacking then go off liao. Only stand there a while to witness the hacking also requires HDB at least 2 weeks to approve. Really cannot make it. Your situation was the same as me too. No hack, cannot continue the rest of the renovations, therefore more delays. My ID was kind enough to help me to chase HDB but HDB always don't answer their phones one. You can try chasing yourself but I think it'll be the same outcome.
  14. This is actually a very subjective issue with both side in the wrong. I always believe that no matter how good the contract is, there is bound to be some other hidden costs. In the midst of renovation, the contractor may feel that it's better to do this than that, he'll surely consult you first. Extra charges will sure be incurred unless it really minor touchup. The other way round is, you may want to add or amend a few things, you consult your contractor and he says okay. Extra charges will bound be to incurred too. Most contractor would not include electrical cost in the original contract because they would need to assess the house first, know what is the length of extension needed, know what cables or wires can or cannot be pulled etc. It's all actually a give an take situation. You want your house to be renovated nicely and the contractor wants to earn some money. If you feel that the cost is really irrelevant, then tell your contractor not to do it. I'm sure things like varnish you can do it yourself. Dismantling of wardrobe the cost can be negotiated to be FOC. Pulling of SCV cables won't be that expensive too. Discuss and negotiate it with your contractor so that it become a win-win solution for both of you.
  15. Wah... You live in the high rise wat... I only low rise how to see the view... Sleeping in the clouds? I think for me is sleeping in the exhaust smoke of the vehicles at the road.
  16. I'm also currently looking for suitable sofa. Leather, half leather, PVC, vinyl, fabric sofas... So many types to choose from. Got their pros and cons too. I like leather but sit too long bottock will get heated up. Easier to sweat too. But I like the feel, smell of leather and maintenance is easier. Whereas fabric got lotsa colours, less heat created. But easier get dirty and wear and tear.
  17. Finally the wall to my MBR had been hacked! !! Took HDB long enough (2 weeks...) to get approval and hack 1 wall... Amazing how just 2 Indian workers can just take 1 hour plus to complete the hacking. When they came into the house, they pushed in several huge electrical equipments on their wheelburrow. Then I thought "wah... must be some big operations". But in the end, they just use a single sledge hammer to hack down the wall. Then what are the rest of the equipments for? During the hacking process, the carpenter and the electrician came down as well to settle all the outstanding issues with me. My ID said if all goes well, the renovation can be completed as fast as within 2 weeks. !! A well dressed auntie also popped into my house to take a look too (maybe it's one of your mother). I saw that her hand was still holding onto the HDB waiting slip. Looks like she was either making loan confirmation or collecting the keys. She did mentioned her flat is the 35th floor. I'll be posting more photos soon after now so stay tune!
  18. Yup, it's better to source for more IDs and compare them with their quotations (items by items) and see which is better. All IDs are out to earn money (of course for a living). It's either a matter of how much they want to earn out of you or how good their talking skills are to coax you into signing up with them. Ultimately, you must feel good when you're being served by the ID. Honesty aside, anything being agreed upon is better to be written down in black and white. A lot of IDs before being signed up can promise you "the sun and moon" but after signing up with them, they only give you their minimum effort. A good place to start is this forum. Initially when I started out, I had to read from page 1 of this thread until the end. Then I read other people's reno-blog and got a feel of what I waned before sourcing for IDs. If you're not sure of anything, feel free to ask here. A lot of kind people are here to help out.
  19. Hi, ryuki. Welcome to the neighbourhood! I've been to Living Arts too. In fact, I've been to all the ID at Blk 177. Ultimately, I chose Unimax as my ID. You can visit my blog to see the details there. If you need any referral to Unimax, I can PM you my ID contact.
  20. I only hacked a bit of the wall to shift the MBR door and the PE took 2 weeks to approve. I did not pester them though. Finally my renovation can resume this week.
  21. It all depends on how many family members you have in your family. The bigger your family size, the bigger recommended the storage heater. Installation of storage heater is easy, no hacking required. Just drill and screw onto the ceiling or wall. Yes, installtion in one bathroom will also provide hot water to the other bathroom as the hot water pipes are linked.
  22. I can tell you that this has nothing to do with the nationality or race of the deceased. Every week, there are bound to be a few death from such incidents (be it suicide or accidents) but newspaper don't always report on them. Why? Because nobody reports to the newspaper or the relevant agencies don't want to broadcast such incidents or their family members don't wish to broadcast them in the media. Respect the relevant agencies, deceased and most importantly their family members.
  23. It's about 12 ft long. But after completion of all works, my ID and I will measure all the carpentry again to finalise the pricing (some minus and plus).
  24. You can get storgae heater from most shops that sells toilet accessories. There's lots of brands for storage heater but all of them are more or less the same, Ariston, Joven, Alpha etc. Price depends on the size of storage, eg. 15l, 20l, 25l etc. My 35l Alpha storgae heater cost S$330 (before discount). You will only need 1 storage heater for 1 house. Usually people install them either in the kitchen or the main toilet.
  25. No problem, Wildreds2. As long as you are still holding onto the payment, they also have to listen to your needs one. It's a matter of how you phrase your needs until they feel that they are obliged to rectify the faults.
