  1. We bought our 1.5m mirror from the same shop. Picked it up 1 month later as we had transport during that period. Lady boss was quite sincere, not pushy at all, but quite firm on the pricing. We ended up buying our chairs there as well. So far quite happy with the service and quality.
  2. All depending on what you want it for, different models for different needs.
  3. Hi CCS79, Sorry, was superbusy last few months and did not visit the forum. I believe u hv probably made up yr mind on the reno by now. Anyhow I've PM u Do let me know if I can be of any help in other ways. Did not realise that we are in the same block No related to A*STAR in any way, wasn't aware that there was another user with the this ID...
  4. Wah, long time didn't log in and a lot of postings since. Regarding the IDs from across the street, suggest that you shop around more. If you have already have an idea of what you want, I can pass you my contractor who did a pretty good job for me. I found him a steady guy with lots of experience in the industry. No major screwups and delivered more less on time. The illegal parking at Blk 177 is bad and has been going on for a while. I saw a motorbike from Pizza Hut delivery make a right turn at the pedestrian crossing in front of 79D, cut across the road into the exit of the blk 79 driveway, driving along the pavement to 79C. If only I had taken a video clip with the mobile phone...
  5. O dear, every dog should be trained not to bark at every little thing. I believe that if the owner invest in a dog, it should be properly trained and not just buy and leave it by itself.
  6. From what I know, the rental for the old Nissan cabs was $75 per day, and when the taxi companies started the Toyota Crown cabs, the rental increased to $90. Would you settle for the smaller Nissan rather than the roomier Crown? When not enough taxi drivers in the pool, the taxi companies give out 'free' rental days to the drivers as incentive to lower cost for the drivers, but when recession come around and there are lots of people want to drive taxis, these are taken away as the taxi companies have lots of drivers waiting for taxis. This is what I gather from talking to the taxi uncles during my trips. That is the irony of the taxi industry. Well, I'm really glad that I kept it really simple, no downlights! I think what Jacky777 suggests is the right thing to do.
  7. Waa, long time didn't loging and so many things have taken place Hi Redwyrm, I believe the 30c surcharge goes to the cab driver, not the taxi company. We are the ones to be pitied. Is this just 1 light only? If you are handy with tools, you can swap with another light to see if there is a problem with the ballast, then you will be able to isolate the problem - installation or ballast
  8. Oh no, we have been suckered! We paid $18 for each hinge. What a rip-off! I guess u win some, u lose some. This Mr Lim came around on a Sat afternoon asking if we want to change the hinge and after seeing his demo, we agreed. Didn't know that there was another fellow doing it as well. Ya, it is a hex screw, but I saw the weld and it looked ok to me. For the info of those who have not changed, the hinges are made of mild steel, which is a soft steel and easily removed. Replace with a steel hinge for better security. I would definitely recommend changing, especially with lots of stuff in our house...
  9. Did u try spraying Licose, or whatever it's called? I can't recall the spelling, but my wife uses it to kill bugs in the kitchen. So it may be helpful. I can try to look up the correct spelling when I'm back in town this coming weekend.
  10. Yup, save on SCV lah. I think sometimes, you can get some football match on the Malaysian channels too. You have a PM. Didn't want to say till reno finished. The reno completed in slightly over 1 month, and I am very satisfied with the workmanship.
  11. Can't say if allowed or not, but I think this is a bit risky. If later need to open the access panel, you will have to move or cut up the cabinet. In the first place, don't know why your ID agreed to this. Suggest to get your ID to change.
  12. Just want to let everybody know that we have finally moved in. Was so swamped with the packing that I did not have time to log in this forum after the last get together. Thanks to all who kindly showed their wonderful flats last month. Just for info, I found that I could get all the Malaysian TV channels - RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9 on the HDB MATV in addition to the MediaCorp channels. What a bonus compared to my old house! Now can watch Cantonese shows for free! Hi tension_z, Sounds like you have been through a lot with an unprofessional ID. For me, I will not take the excuses that your ID gave. It is important to countercheck what the ID says. A lot of times, they will tell all sorts of tales to try to get away with substandard workmanship. If it is not right, voice out and keep a clear mind of the sequence of things that are required. If there's any help required, let us know. Lots of volunteers here I must say that I'm glad we got a good contractor who was very practical and walked us through our ideas. Told a number of times that a lot of things are not necessary and no need to do, so saved a fair amount of money there.

  14. Why dont we have the gathering earlier to finish all the food first, otherwise, we will all have to find some way to carry around all the food while going round to various houses, or leave it at someone's place which will be the last house on the list. Also, like that hor got energy to jalan jalan, and work out all the food that we makan.
  15. 2days to dry on non-rainy days? Omg, I wonder how are we going to survive compared to our current house, where it drys overnight if the temperature is not too low. Looks like we have to get a dryer after all Would love to view your photos Both of you look so sweet in the photo.
  16. The base station that the mobile phone connects to are most likely to be on the ground floor, and I believe they are normally optimised to have strong coverage in the horizontal direction and not as much in the vertical direction, so on the high floors may have somewhat patchy reception. This is the downside to staying so high up Probably best to call up the telco and let them think of solution for us...
  17. Will also need to have a confirmed place to meet up if we are going house hopping.
  18. Hi ms_white, Yes, I am around this weekend. I will be at the house this Saturday afternoon around 2-3 pm. If you want to kpo at my house, you are most welcome. Not much to show, only the flooring is completed, carpentery works scheduled for next week. I should be able to make it for the gathering, but my other half is out of town this weekend Really would like to meet up with people in our block. Gentle reminder: Gathering this Sunday @ Sky Garden @ 5pm. 19. If u do not intend to start reno, no need to apply for SP Services yet. After collecting your keys, you should go up to your new flat to check up on water and power. You should have a few days grace to do this. You should only apply for SP services a week before you start renovation. They will schedule a tech to come down to turn on your power and water and take a meter reading at the same time. If you have not checked your water and power, you should do so now before your reno starts. You must submit your defects list to HDB before your reno starts, best to do it at least 1 week before the reno, then HDB got time to fix the defects, otherwise may clash with the reno contractor work. If you turn on power and water, but do not stay in your house, you do not pay anything, only the monthly fee for the 2 toilets + rubbish deposal fee, I think. It comes up to about $20 per month in all. Others can correct me there. I do not have my SP bill with me at the moment. Good luck! Yes, I have been MIA for a while. Been in and out of town for the last couple of months. Our unit now under reno. Flooring is done, now waiting for carpentry. Am out of town this week, but should be around during the weekend.
  20. Hey ms_white and shay_d, Congrats to you as well!

  22. Hi meepok, Still waiting for my keys lah...
  23. Err, don't know who told u that. From what I know, 4-rm kitchen is tiled and 5-rm kitchen is not tiled. Bathroom all done up for both types of flats, so u cant hack it, only overlay. Yes, this forum does give a sense of community to all. O dear, But I think in this case, the thieves are most likely to be the kind who walk around waiting for chance. Not likely to be so high-tech to monitor this forum for what has been purchased by who. Good idea! Still a lot of neighbours I hv not gotten any chance to meet up with... !!
  24. Hi meepok, Welcome and congrats on getting your keys! If u are tiling your entire flat, then the contractor will need a rough floor to work on - no screeding required. However, if u intend to install laminated flooring, then a smooth finish on the floor is required, hence screeding. There should not be any difference between the SERS and ballot flats. The SERS folks get to choose the flats first, cos we r first in line. After the SERS folks finish then open the rest for balloting.
  25. Err, better not be 24 hours, cos if everybody downstairs watching football and shouting, the poor folks at E blk just above the coffee shop will have a hard time sleeping. Must be good neighbour lar
