Simpleguy, ^5 man. Think we submitted our defects around the same time. So have they started on other defects yet? Or also same as renopooh's, gotta wait until finished with the windows then start?
-
Sigh, just kenna by HDB's contractor, "told you 2 months already mah, now 2 weeks only & you're chasing me? told u cannot chase me liao lor". He said the rectification of defects can only commence after the windows are changed. Once windows are changed, the rest can complete very fast one. Well... let's see about that. Actually, renopooh had gotten quotes from a few IDs since last year Aug but not to renopooh's liking. So now renopooh will be own ID, just need a contractor to do hacking work & some rewiring. Shift in? Not for renopooh to decide now. Must wait until everything do up nice nice then can shift in mah, right? Not in a rush although renopooh can't wait to move in to 100 acre woods...

Renopooh unable to get HDB officer, always not available, call went to voicemail. Also no call back. Renopooh hasn't hunted any ID/contractors yet cos unable to commit start date since HDB still hasn't even started on rectification works. Any recommendations?
-
Actually, only got a few panels of the windows cannot be opened/closed smoothly, 3 to be exact. But when the contractor saw the first one, tested it & said he'll change all the windows for renopooh. He also said he'll change the whole balcony door eventhough there're no defects with it. Is it because the windows come together as a set? Cannot just change just 1 or 2? Renopooh also don't know. But since he offered at no additional costs, renopooh don't see why not, eventhough gotta wait for 2 months. Renopooh had waited half a year, what's another 2 more months, right? But the frustrating thing is they haven't even started on anything yet, not even the rest of the defects. Will they be able to complete everything in time? That's the question...
-
Yah, TO also told renopooh rectify defects is very fast, about 3 weeks can finish. But because he'll be changing all the windows for renopooh, that's why need to take 2 months as they need to order stock lah, blah blah blah. Don't think they'll even bother to really put down in B/W lor... 2 weeks already still not started, next week gotta push them already.
-
IMO, better to be safe than to be sorry lor... especially when there're gray areas as to who are responsible for the defects. But hor, up to now they haven't even started working on the defects. will give them a piece of mind if they're unable to complete within 2 months as per promised.
-
Ok, thanks for the clarifications. Renopooh will hold reno until all the defects are rectified. Hopefully that the defects list submitted is all-inclusive & won't find more defects during the wait. Haha...
-
Yes, renopooh has a HDB TO & had met up with the contractor too. was advised to start reno after defects are rectified. Renopooh also thinking the same as you (that if doing both rectification & renovation together, the defects will be nobody's child). But there're so many people who proceed with reno even before rectification of defects so renopooh is confused mah. Anyway, had decided to wait till rectification works are completed lah. In the meantime, will continue to update this blog.

Renopooh checked on the progress last night but was shocked to find nothing had been done at all Is this normal? Are they only going to start work on it towards the last few weeks? Found another neighbour who was also asked to wait 2 months for them to change the windows but at least this neighbour will proceed with reno first. whether renopooh should start renovating as well rather than wait it out...
-
That's good for you. Congratulations. When's ya big day? The contractor told renopooh that not advisable to start reno before the rectification works are done wait got a lot of problems. Dunno what he meant by that. So blueturtle, looking forward to your reno-blog soon eh?
-
blueturtle, are u going ahead with the reno before the defects had been rectified?
-
Latest updates: renopooh went through list of defects with HDB contractor & result is that gotta wait for 2 months for everything to be rectified. Reason for taking such a long time is because all the windows needed to be changed. Well, no choice but to wait until it finish then to start renovation lor. Anyway, renopooh made some purchases from Ikea over the weekend: 1) Dining table 2) Floor uplifter & bulbs 3) Clothes drying rack 4) Laundry bag Slowly building up on the inventory... blueturtle, renopooh understands what you mean. Like the household shelter door cannot even be closed, so obvious when entering the house, was not even rectified before handing the keys to owners. Same thing also happened to renopooh's neighbours.
-
Congratulations on finally getting your keys. Looking forward to your blog soon. Renopooh also going down to unit this weekend to meet contractor, maybe will bump into you. Hehe... Do take your time to check the house carefully & in detail.
-
OIC. How old is your unit? Renopooh's unit is 7yrs old already, although nobody stayed there before, that's why need to wait 6 months for collection of keys while they refurbish everything. Now that the wait's over, still gotta go through another round of waiting. More
-
That sounds real bad. Can't help wondering why they don't do a good job before handling the keys over to the owners. Furthmore, some defects are so obvious that no need to knock here knock there also can see one still can be missed.

Surprisingly, there were no hollow tiles (which everybody seem to mentioned/warned about) found in renopooh's unit. The biggest headache is the windows. Indeed too stiff & unable to close without without using huge force. Renopooh's not sure on whether it's the norm to meet up with the TO or contractor. Renopooh only know that he received a call from TO to meet up to show him where the defects are located, eventhough the defects are properly marked & labeled. Perhaps it's due to the unusually long list submitted? Metro sale ending this Sunday (24-Feb-08) though, bound to be crowded with so many fairs going on. The POPULAR Sale and Watsons Expo Mega Sale coming up too (28-Feb-08 to 02-Mar-08).

Yah lor, on 1st check 2 weeks ago, there didn't seem to be so many defects. On 2nd check last weekend, everything seem to just "pop up". Dunno how many more will surface in time to come. Sianz ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, so much for the disheartening information that HDB may take longer than promised to rectify the defects. Anyway, renopooh will be meeting the contractor (for rectification works) himself on this Sat, will check with him directly on estimated time frame for completion, guess that'll be more accurate bah. Some updates on purchases made over last weekend. Bought a set of 3 coffee tables from NTUC for S$59.90 (original price: S$79.90) which IMO was pretty cheap & a great buy. Still dunno where to place it though (cos already got a coffee table for living room) but still went ahead & bought it cos felt strongly that it'll come to good use in due time.

Eh, renopooh doesn't have much problem with the floor tiles leh. A few wall tiles in kitchen got problem though (chipped). Got more problems with the doors & windows. In total about 22 defects on the list lah, is this considered a lot? The HDB branch officer said it is considered quite many already. While checking for defects, renopooh ran into a neighbour & he was warning renopooh about cracks in walls as most residents there have complained about cracks surfacing (although the flat is barely 7 yrs old). Well, renopooh was unable to find any cracks during the check most probably cos they've already been covered up nicely. However, at least still got 1 yr warranty period to report the defects to HDB.
-
OMG. 5 months?! Renopooh going to faint already. The HDB officer at the branch office advised that it'll take 3 weeks to at most 4 weeks and Renopooh already felt it's too long a wait. 5 months is unbearable. What are the "major changes" you making? Thought it's just "rectification" process & not "major overhaul"? Eh... wait a minute, have you collected your keys yet?
-
4 months??!! OMG If gonna wait for that long, renopooh will go
-
thanks for the advice. any idea how long they'll drag? the officer called up & wanna meet up for renopooh to show him where the defects are located. think after that then the contractors can start working on the defects bah.
-
Today, renopooh submitted list of defects to HDB branch office. Wow, what a long list. Although there weren't any hollow tiles discovered, renopooh have trouble with the windows. So many of them were unable to be opened/closed properly. Well, the form doesn't have enough spaces for the long list of defects so renopooh gotta request for additional forms. Only at the branch office then renopooh found out that the form can actually be downloaded from HDB's website (Feedback Form For New Flats, http://www.hdb.gov.sg/isoa072p.nsf/13e5455...ct_FB_Form.pdf). And actually can report the defects online (via e-Maintenance Feedback, https://services2.hdb.gov.sg/webapp/BN21EMASS/BN21Main) instead of going down personally to the branch office, so convenient. Anyway, since renopooh was already there at the branch office, renopooh just submitted the form to the HDB officer. The officer went thru the list with renopooh & keyed into the system. Got back copy of the request acknowledgement form (all together 4 pages of it) to keep as reference. Renopooh was told that have to wait for 3 - 4 weeks for the defects to be rectified. Wow, such a long wait. Well, renopooh just gotta wait patiently for the defects to be rectified 1st before renovation works can proceed...
-
wow, u plan so early in advance for your project B? how much u got it for? renopooh bought it via online auction website for less than S$100. it's for the small pieces of laundry such as underwear.
-
Thanks, all the best to you! Hmmm... renopooh had not get down to checking in detail for defects. Renopooh'd only rolled in the pineapple & threw the rice/green beans around the house. Haven't swept the floor yet. Will get down to checking for defects after CNY. Anyway, they won't be working on it until after CNY. renopooh taking own sweet time although can't wait to move in to new house. haha... no particular ID in mind yet, most probably getting contractors.
-
So far Renopooh had already jot down a few defects, though nothing major. Just some common ones like windows cannot close properly, basin leaking, door cannot close, etc etc. Renopooh was instructed to submit list of defects within 7days to HDB but renopooh checked with HDB already and HDB advised that as long as the list of defects is submited prior to starting of reno can already. Renopooh will submit it next week after the CNY cos wanna enjoy enjoy first. Reno works will only commence after defects are rectified but renopooh hasn't engaged any ID nor contractor yet. Renopooh will try to make use of the period while rectification works are being done to source for ID/Contractors & obtain quotes.
