ermm... not sure if its helpful.. but u dun have to wait for all defects to be done before u proceed with reno, rite? i moved in n i was still reporting defects. anyhow, criticall stuff which u nid to wait for HDB to recitify b4 reno start would b like the power points etc... if u intend to proceed with reno even in havin that problem, just let Karin know (sort of like telling them that u have notified them), then u can go ahead so that if they deny, u have points to argue on. i realised a socket not working after reno (but of course its the original point where no relocation of change of socket done), reported and they rectify for me. understanding was the respective contractors will come do their rounds of rectification at certain fixed time, so, say, if toilet bowl, sink issues etc, report altogether so u dun have to miss n wait another round. btw, i think a lil pressure does help... my gate lock wasnt working and was waiting for rectification for almost 2-3 weeks. the other day i just dropped by to check on the status and the next day someone came by to rectify.. so, some friendly and harmless pressure is good for them, i think !!

Sorry for the late reply.. been too busy. Nope, its from Hafary. I think Hafary's aftrsales service is not bad, at least when they realise warping due to tiles, they admit n change new tiles.

Hi all, Its been a while as i've been busy shifting and settling in... my internet connection is still down due to some tel number transfer problem.. btw, in case anybody needs this: there's 2 uncles doing the welding of the gate bolt/nuts my was done by Sunny (TeL: 98899591). he advised me to use the round headed bolt (which is more difficult for burglar to handle...) n the round headed ones are using better quality 钢 So, hopefully the info helps, for some of u. u dun need to change all, 6 is sufficient. hey, btw, can bargain hor... i did the $25/bolt and bargain down to $20/bolt. SO, u just say uncle, cheaper lah, my friend oso done at this price blah blah... the other uncle is his brother... i think they r competitors ;P So, he sure want ur biz.

Hi all, Good morning. A word of advice from my plumber: do take some pictures of how the piping line runs (red and blue tape area) in ur kitchen before removing it when moving in. This is to avoid drilling into wrong areas (which means trouble!) in future. Perhaps some of u already thought of it, but it never occured to me until my plumber said so... so, just to share the info

It's been a really long and tiring process - renovation work. Finally i'm beginning to see it taking forms. Fold door is up, not 100% satisfied (little flaws here and there), but still, heng arh... it turns out presentable, normal.. like how a door suppose to look i think i'm a bit paranoid over the reno.. haha. The wardrobes are up. (MBR looks ok, but too bad, they made a mistake on the laminate for my room, doors are torn down for replacement.) MBR - with a 3rd door (mirror) My kitchen cabinet is up as well.. laminate looks nice.. like i say, small flaws here n there. ID was fast in getting the solid top installed, within 2-3 days of installing the cabinet. BUT he made a blunder in the design of the solid top, which turns out not to be what we want - something which my mum has been emphasizing.. so, now, pending to resolve it. Accept it as it is? NO WAY.. Change the solid top? then the ID surely will make a big time lost.. no conclusion yet.

toilets have 2 light outlet u know? 1 for the center, ceiling, 1 on top of the wire mesh thingy... so, the other 2 u know, its for the point outside MBR and center of MBR.

This is just a cheaper alternative... may not look good to some people. ermm... after putting in the screw, i tried with the rod on and secure the screw only when the rod fit in. So, the rod is still straight against the curve of the underbeam if u look from bottom up. not sure u got wat i mean? if u wanna c, let me know but probably can only do it on comin sat, unless its weekday nite (afterwork), which i only have Fri available. if u buy the ikea rod, buy the longest one with the extension part, all completed in 1 set..

Hey Cavie, way to go man! All the best to ur reno.. hopefully all will work out smoothly for u, can understand the headache u have to face, esp when u have to handle ur reno alone... anyway, think of ur new home, new lifestyle.. abit of hardship is endurable all the best!

5th Jan While waiting for the lighting delivery and gas pipe installation, i saw some men at work at Blk 27A. It is interesting to know thats how they got the Brick-look on the floor, thot its a design on the tiles. After the cement screeding, the uncle coat the cement with some brown clay powder and use the mold to imprint on the floor, stepping on it to get the design cut into the cement.. Never knew its such hard work.. nxt time when walk on the pavement, must appreciate more. The hall curtain has been a big headache.. happy to know that we really manage to get it done with Ikea rods! Hurray.. thats a big piece off my mum's mind. Modified Ikea hooks My living room with the rods and hooks mounted Close-up view of the hooks mounted under the beam

Hi, anybody has a scanned copy of the lightings plan? Someone was asking the other time and i checked and realised i dun have it as well... Just wondering if i missed it out somewhere... What's sticked on the'circuit box is only the gas and water booklet from SP service.. Anyway, my lightings are already done, so is it really necessary to get a back-up copy?

nah... i'm still at my old flat.. new flat not ready yet. dunno where to hang the frames yet, just wanted to have same series yet not the raw wood color, so, i thot this looks ok, haha... Yep.. just used the leftover Kiwi shoeshines which i found in my shoe cabinet while clearing the mess, lol i've tried it with paints as well, but feel that shoeshine looks the best. when buying the frames from Okea, just choose those with nice grains and it stands out after polishing! !! Ideas for those with shoestring budget !!
-
Cost saving DIYs which my mum wouldn't agree with me (she thinks i'm a scrooge!) Wanted some same color range photo frames but dun wanna spend a bunch on it.. ended up coloring my ikea raw wood frames with shoe shines.. i thot it doesnt look too bad, the grains are turning out well.

Yep, i saw hers. So, u gonna drill on the metal as well huh...but have u consider, if u drill into the metal, the space for the hook is very limited, so, eventually, the curtain may not be able to cover nicely? just my thots. hope u dun mind, exchange of ideas, i actually planned to drill the hook onto the under of the beam.. As u see above, i've cut off the original back part of the hook and plan to redrill holes such that these hooks will be mounted on the underpart of the beam...

hi happy, i bought these rods for living room too... in fact, all rooms i bought the similar hook n rod from ikea.. no matter how my mum n i try, can't work for Living room leh coz of the slight curve at the window.. we even cut off part of the hook (intend to redrill) - bcoz it is extending too far out, leaving a big gap btwn window n curtain... i even bend the rod in the hope it will be aligned to the curve shape in the living room window mind to tell how ur ID going to install this for u?

Been wanting to install some sliding trays/drawers for easier accessibility. Blum is out of my budget and i think Wei Mi (mujipai - the chicken brand) is very expensive too, considering a 90cm basket to be over $200. my ID say Ikea tray = blum tray too and it was indeed so as Blum was imprinted on it, probably OEM. in case anybody oso planning to buy the Ikea tray, its not that difficult to assemble. So, if i can do it, sure u can too. tada.. see? so easy, in a jiffy. just a word of caution, do remember to buy the front as well, not just the tray. the tray is sold without the front, as it is meant for installation onto the wooden door. If in doubt, just ask the sales personnel that u want to buy a complete set of the tray. I should think this is a cheaper alternative to blum?

Hi xlan, Ur sliding door is very nice. May i ask how much it cost u? when the sliding door is closed, will it leave a gap at the side (near circuit box - due to the space allowance needed to accomodate the box?) How wide is the door and ur entrance space? sorry, so many questions as i m trying hard to find a way to cover up the entrance..
-
i dont have.. will ask him if bum into him again.. siao liao.. i'm gettin abit paranoid oso... must pop by more often to check. for those finishing up with reno, i suggest u lock up ur main door rather than relying on that miserable lock... i'm gonna tell ID to let me know in advance when they wanna go, else i would lock up my main door as well.
-
orh... $15 per set, 6 sets is $90... he is going around asking, u will sure to see him around.
-
ermm.. there was an uncle going around asking if wan to change to aluminium hinges for metal gate. Cost: $15/bolt & nut, total 9 hinges he say must change at least 6 so that the gate could not be removed easily.. i dint do it cost i thot cant b that suay... looks like now have to think about it again.

1 question for those who has completed the lighting fixing. what tube to buy for the ligting in the toilet, u know, the beam where there's this box up for the pipings? there's a connection point there, i forgot to ask the lighting man what tube needed.

hi xlan, i checked with my carpenter master who came to my house to take measurement for kitchen cabinet. He confirm that the wall will not be straight one. Just that the cabinet will be build straight, so when u see the ap, it looks as if cabinet slanted. dunno if that will help in assuring u? He say cabinet still straight, so solid top will b straight.. i'll know if my cabinet is straight in abt 2 wk's time..

hey guys, thanks for the advice. I got it. i'll postpone my decision to make the door then. it's actually meant for the kitchen entrance door which i plan to do a tic tac door. ID quote me $2.8K for a full panel wood cover which includes a tic tac door entrance to kitchen.
