  2. HI caDAVEr! my home renovation was recently completed by Fuse Concept (although not Vincent) and I am very happy with the renovation in terms of workmanship, quality and pricing. It may not be the cheapest, but I feel that that I am paying for quality and ease of mind. I didn't have to come by everyday to check on the progress, as I could leave it to the ID to do QC. Although there were some minor hiccups along the way, everything was resolved and handover was as scheduled. We've been staying in the new home for 1 month already and we're very very happy with how the renovations turned out. It was better than we expected and will definitely recommend others to sign with Fuse if the design is up to their expectations. Do ask Vincent to show you his completed projects, so that you can take a look at the quality & workmanship. It is a common practice to do so!
  3. Hi Eric, I went to your blog and realised that Dan brought me to your house to see the workmanship before I decided to go with Fuse Concept. It was your wife who met with us. Yes I totally agree with you that Dan is accommodating and he will try his best to incorporate our needs with his design concept. My renovations are completed already and he delivered as promised within 1 month without compromising on workmanship and I am looking forward to moving in next week.
  4. I use a variety of 3M hooks in my home for different items. The maximum weight each hook can hold is indicated on the box. I agree that if you are afraid of the painting falling or getting pulled down by kids, you should drill and then secure it with the 3M velcro. It's more secure that way. Homefix has a wide range of 3M items. You can check out the heavy duty type. i saw a large 3M shelf in Homefix are Marina Square, which is their flagship store.
  5. I just started renovation last thursday and it's great to hear that you have also signed with Fuse!! After my materials selection, ID brought me to select my lights & ceiling fans from Premier Lighting along Geylang Road. The PL lights aren't the cheapest as I've read in some threads that some forummers got their lights for $18! But I knew beforehand that there are many types of such lights and you pay for better quality. They supposedly also use the better Osram bulbs. I got my dining lamp there as well and I feel it was quite a good deal as I saw a similar design at Molecule and it's more than $1k but i got it for $600. Remember to bargain! As for sinks etc, i'm sure Fuse has their regular supplier near their office. But if you have your own preference for anything, he is most willing to accommodate. Just get the measurements correct and you can order it on your own and arrange for delivery according to the renovation schedule that the ID provides. E.g. I got my balcony ceiling fan from somewhere else and my ID just told me which date and time to arrange for delivery and installation, according to the reno schedule. Hope your reno experience will be a great one!
  6. i saw some nice clocks on revivehome website ... but i dunno how to create the hyperlink. go to www dot revivehome dot com
  7. I met up with them and got a quote as well. Quite reasonable pricing and the designer, Sun, listens to your needs and will weave it into her proposal. I decided to go with another ID as my husband preferred the other design. Quality wise, i think it's quite good as it was my friend who recommended me to LS2 and her house is still in good condition after more than 1 year plus a baby boy at home. The workmanship is good, from what i can see when I visited her house. Hope this helps and good luck in finding an ID!
  8. All the colours are great! Lots of people use Lavender Mist huh... I especially like the green (no. 4) and deep purple (no. 2)... what colour is that? Are they all dulux?
  9. Hi Taz, Thanks! Yes it looks like an Elmark, saw it in their website. Am glad that you have good comments about it! They have more colours now, even matt and glossy black! I'll decide when i'm doing material selection with my ID, to see which colour goes best with the overall decor. I'm going to get 4 fans - living room, MBR, study and balcony - but probably in different colours and designs. Would it be better to get from Elmark directly, so that they can get their guys to install? if you buy it from retailers, who does installation? I understand from forummers that ceiling fans need to be balanced properly. Other brands like Fanco and Amasco also have similar designs but the prices vary quite a bit. Elmark is the cheapest so far.
  10. thanks mparade, i know what you mean. unfortunately, i'm not going to spend more than $1k on a ceiling fan, as much as i would love to! the budget is rising everyday and it's really scary how everything adds up. it's like holding the wedding all over again but this time, no ang pows! u live in marina parade? we're pretty near then!
  11. yes i found out this morning when i called Elmark. *gulp* i guess will settle for a normal stainless steel fan for my balcony...
  12. where is the elmark showroom? isit the one at ubi? they sell elmark & fanco there? any other brands? did u check out amasco fans when u were shopping? i think the black one that i like is an amasco twister. i saw a similar one on the fanco website but not sure if it comes in black.
  13. I have no idea either... but there was an earlier thread abt them that was also "censored". I was considering to use this ID as well but felt that they are quite expensive and workmanship is only ok... depending on who is your ID and which contractor he/she uses. After seeing 7 IDs, i signed up with Fuse Concept on Sunday because i liked his designs and i'm sure he can do a good job. Workmanship and quality wise also very good, although it may be a little more expensive than others, but not too much! before u select your ID, request to see a recently completed project of his to check workmanship. Design wise, you can improvise from all the proposals but workmanship & quality is something that shouldn't be compromised.
  14. I was there in Dec back in 2005 and the weather was quite wet. it rained everyday so it was quite inconvenient. however weather is quite unpredictable, so who knows? You can stay 2 nights in kuta and 2 nights in ubud for 2 different experiences. Kuta is where most tourists flock to for the beaches and nightlife - although the beaches are not that great in Bali. Ubud is the more artsy/cultural side of Bali. Check out Biyukukung.net. Their accommodations are overlooking the padi fields in Ubud. I didn't stay there but my friends did and it is quite value for money. I stayed at Alila Ubud which i felt was not great - definitely not worth paying for! Seafood restaurants in Jimbaran, though catered for tourists, are still reasonably priced and quite yummy.
  15. ooh... i guess i'll keep my eyes open when i start shopping for fans. do the shops sell just fans only? or along with lighting? Elmark has a really interesting designer model fan - - thinking of using it for my balcony...hope it's not too expensive. looks like wooden blade... hopefully it comes in other colours.
  16. isit... I-ndonesia M-alaysia A-merica G-ermany E-stonia ?
  17. hmm... i suppose if u compare metal vs wood, wood would def be more lasting. but somehow the wooden look doesn't really go with my decor cos i'm not going to have any wood grains in my new home. hehe... not a great fan of wood. i think i saw a similar design in the elmark website but instead of black, it's gunmetal. shall call to ask if they have black. the kdk ones didn't really catch my eye. they're rather bulky in terms of design.
  18. i didn't see that in the kdk website... only white one. but i shall keep my eyes open when i start shopping for electrical appliances. i saw this in this month's home and decor magazine and really like that it's so simple and so black! it will be able to "hide" dust, as opposed to white fans.
  19. hi hi, does anyone know where to buy a simple 3-blade type that is black in colour? i'm looking for something like this...
  20. LA is very indeed huge and there are areas you should avoid. Can't remember where now, but if you need, I can ask my friend who used to live there. I just came back from the USA a few weeks ago and I stayed in Travelodge at the Santa Monica beach area. You can check out the hotel/motel/inns chains like comfort inn, day's inn, travelodge, doubletree etc for affordable yet clean rooms. Check out tripadvisor for real travel tips and reviews from real travellers. I depended a lot of those reviews for my 12-night stay in the US and I must say I was really happy with the hotels & inns that we stayed in. Driving is must in the USA, along with renting the GPS so that you won't be stressed out from reading maps. You can rent the car & GPS from Alamo.com as they offer one of the lowest rates for the west coast of USA and you can collect & return the car at LAX airport. They provide free shuttle service from the airport terminal to the car collection station.
  21. My husband received a mailer from Citibank to attend the Marriot Vacation Club presentation and get either $200 takashimaya voucher or 1 night stay at Ritz Carlton. He wanted to trash the mailer but I said to go listen to the 90minute presentation and get a free gift! We attended the presentation on Sunday (18/11) and were glad to know that they were not so hard sell... but of course it'll depend on who serves you. They ushered us to the reception area once we got there and we could help ourselves to the snacks and drinks provided. Following which, we could walk around to view the introductory panels about Marriot Vacation Club. It doesn't quite work like a timeshare and I would say that it's definitely not a scam. You are basically paying for your hotel stay upfront for the next 49 years (that's when the lease expires). There are currently 6 Marriot Vacation Clubs where you can stay in, and on top of that you can also choose to stay in partner hotels and/or Marriot hotels around the world. It's not an investment ie there are no returns/yields. You are buying credits and everytime u book to stay somewhere, you use those credits! You can even use the credits to book rooms for your friends and family. We didn't buy in eventually, as we are not prepared to part with such a large amount of money since we're doing renovations now but we did see that it's not a scam and would have been open to it if we had more spare cash. Citibank is providing the financing channels through 5 or 10 year instalments. My advice? Really no harm going for the presentation if you had an afternoon/evening to spare during the weekends! Nothing to lose since they will still give you the voucher if you didn't sign up!
  22. Anyone in this forum moving into Belvedere? I called Keppel Land and was informed that tt's going to TOP soon and hopefully can get the keys soon after!
  23. hi firipy, my 2nd meeting went well... in fact he took in all my comments from the 1st meeting (incl the bed size) and updated the 3D drawings. The detailed fine-tuning such as materials/colour selection will have to wait till we pay the deposit once we decide on the ID or contractor. After seeing several ID, I've more or less decided what I want for the different areas of my house, so it will eventually boil down to an issue of workmanship and cost. If we save more on the renovation, maybe i can accord some of my budget to a Bose sound system! *i wish*
  24. Hi firipy, We want a king sized bed in the bedroom but he said it'll be really near the door if we did that. But looking at the floorplan, there's still quite a lot of space from the door to the edge of the bed, as the layout drawings are based on king-sized bed as well. Just need to sacrifice the width of the side table which shouldn't be an issue, since we're customising it as well. Anyway we'll see how it goes when we next meet up! Will sound him out abt the "shopping" aspect as well. Afraid that my reno period (Dec/Jan) will be super-peak, so he may not be able to spare the time to do so.
