  1. In that case, I dun sell to that buyer As for the concealed wiring, maybe u can ask your contractor. I'm sure they know of real life cases of what hdb do to owner/contractor.
  2. Anything that was illegally changed, including concealed wiring, HDB has right to ask owner to make good. Whether they actually strictly enforce or not, I'm not sure. Maybe also depends on the HDB staff doing the check, whether he pretend not to see anything. If you run new wires using surface trunking, that's allowed and so no problem. I haven't seen much discussion on this in this forum. But it seems quite a few just do concealed wiring. In my BTO fb page, somebody even said that for walls that are hacked, u have to reinstate it before selling. But I dun think he's right. I'm gonna call HDB to verify as I intend to hack my wall.
  3. Oic, it's weekend holiday home haha. Me still waiting for keys Regarding your earlier reply to conceal new lighting/power points in the ceiling/walls, I believe HDB will/may check when u sell the flat later on. In which case, have to make good at own cost and maybe fined. Hmm... still thinking whether to risk it. But seems like quite a few people do it. I was talking to one ID firm (with many branches), and they want me to sign disclaimer so they have no responsibility for the electrician's by-right-cannot by-left-can actions. They were worried HDB slap them with demerit points
  4. So you only use mobile internet all this while? I wouldn't move in w/o broadband internet installed Btw, how's your vinyl flooring holding up so far. Any problems like warping etc. I'm still undecided whether to go for vinyl.
  5. Is that a workdesk or bar counter, behind the sofa, facing the TV. I love to be able to watch TV while I'm working at my computer, so I'll layout my furniture that way too. It's very practical
  6. 1) For the drop down to shower area after overlaying, wondering how did the contractor achieve that? Did they add a base layer to non-shower area before tile overlay? I actually prefer this way to doing a raised shower kerb but more expensive to overlay the floor just for this. 2) I actually thought that BTO toilet comes with the concealed aircon water discharge pipe ready for use but I guess I was wrong. After they redo the trunking, do they still have the bottom portion running horizontally to a floor trap? For me, I would prefer a vertical pipe that ends above floor level and just let the water drip out from that corner haha. 3) I'm still undecided to go with vinyl flooring or not. I prefer light/medium wood color flooring, and so far I've been to a few suppliers but didn't like most of them. I actually shortlisted Evorich Ice Maple (if i decide on vinyl) so can't wait to see how it looks with your apartment
  7. For my BTO project, it looks like internet points with RJ45 socket is installed instead of tel points. So no need to do conversion from tel to internet socket? Noob about such things
  8. Related question, for new or re-positioning of lighting and power points, do most people conceal it in the walls/ceilings even though HDB don't allow it? I would hate to do a false ceiling just to conceal the wirings.
  9. Was the sliding glass door for your kitchen done by J&E or different supplier? If latter, can pm me? Tks
  10. Do you mean that you didn't have to top up to $4.80 for the tiles? That would be generous of the contractor! Also, can you PM me ID "MH of L**** P****** S*******". TIA.
  11. Hi Have you figured out what's the problem? If not, I don't think you should exclude vinyl flooring as the cause, even if it's click system. Vinyl flooring comes with VOC emission. Check whether your vinyl brand comes with certification on this.
  12. Timing is only one aspect. If you are a novice, try to do as much "homework" as you can about renovation even before you meet up with them. Aim to equip yourself with the knowledge to evaluate their competency, proposals etc, and for the one you select, to be able to supervise them effectively. Such knowledge cover many things including choice of materials, product/brand knowledge, pricing/value comparison etc. The more you know, the less likely things will go wrong. Also, don't forget that there are many things you need to do that has nothing to do with your ID/contractor. My approach is to get all these sorted out beforehand so that when renovation starts, I'm focused on monitoring/supervising their work instead of being busy trying to figure which aircon model to get, which installer to engage and where to get the best deal
  13. If I swap the basin & shower areas, is it possible to convert the existing basin water discharge pipe into a floor trap for the new shower area, and convert the existing shower floor trap so that it is used as a water discharge pipe for the new basin location?
  14. 1) How do you find the quality of this pole rack? Looks useful thing to have. Is it sturdy and not wobbly? 2) How is the quality of carpentry work for the kitchen cabinet? Is stainless steel screws used for the hinges? 3) Does the contractor provide warranty for renovation works? For eg, for wet works, to cover things like tiles pop-up,
  15. Hi, I'm thinking of swapping my sink and shower areas which are diagonally opposite. One way is to convert the existing sink drain pipe into floor trap for the new shower area, and convert another floor trap to be the new sink drain pipe. Don't know whether plumbing wise its technically possible and whether HDB allow it. What did you have to do with the drain pipes and floor traps after you shifted your sink and shower areas previously.?
  16. Hi, Below is pic of my bathroom layout (this is not my actual unit but the HDB showflat unit with same layout. My BTO unit will be ready soon). The bathroom comes with dual entrances, from the bedroom and the kitchen, making it impossible to have wet/dry areas without doing some major reconfiguration. As you can see, the shower point is right opposite my WC and too narrow to install a shower cubicle. I'm thinking of shifting and rotating (90 degrees) my WC so that it sits back against the adjoining wall (where the door entrance is). This will give me enough space to have dry/wet areas after sealing the entrance doorway ( I will use the other entrance from the kitchen instead). Note that the gap between WC and that wall is quite wide, about 50cm, I don't think it's possible to just rotate my WC and use back the existing sewage hole. I'm guessing that I need to run extension pipes from the new WC position, and they need to be laid with a slope, and not just horizontally, so some height clearance is needed. I've thought of the following solutions: 1) Build a platform so that I can run extension pipes under it from the new WC position to the existing sewage hole. 2) Or buy wall mounted WC. I'm guessing that this type of WC has a higher sewage outlet so that I can run extension pipes along the L-shaped corner to the existing sewage hole. I will just box up the extension pipes w/o any need to build a platform. Of course, I would need to box up back of the wall-mounted WC. 3) Similar to (2) but buy those WC where the sewage outlet is situated behind the WC rather than at bottom of WC. I think they call it P type? Can anyone advice on this? Or is there a better way? Tks!
  17. Your blog is very interesting. Can feel the excitement Can pm me the contractor E's contact details. Tks.
  18. Hi, Below is list of shops mainly specialising in wardrobe and/or kitchen cabinetry solutions. This is not a list meant for IDs/contractors who do such cabinetry work. Pls add on to the list if you know of any other shops. 1) OPSH (opsh.com.sg) 2) Besglas (besglas.com) 3) ClosetDesign (closetdesign.com.sg) 4) Kitchen Culture (kitchenculture.com/sg/en) 5) Classic (classicfurniture.sg) 6) Blum (blum.com/sg/en) [yes, they do kitchen cabinets as well] 7) Ikea (wardrobe shelf/post system and kitchen cabinets)
  19. Hi, I've seen Cotto wood look-alike ceramic tiles in Thailand before. From what I can recall, they are nicer (ie. look more like natural wood) than those I see here at Hafary, Soon Bee Huat etc. Anyone know any shop that carries them? So far I only notice some shops carry Cotto basins etc but not the tiles.
