HAULAGE + COUNTER TOPS Today we met up with 3 groups of people in the house. 1st was the plumbers who noted down locations of our fixtures, 2nd was the haulage guys, and 3rd was the glass-works people. Our place turned from this... ... to this! Finally got to see our floor tiles in its entirety and we love how it looks Glass door for kitchen entrance is installed too! The master toilet's shower screen got "abandoned" (they left it in the bathroom, propped against the wall) as the installers realized that measurements were off and it wouldn't fit. We got an external supplier to handle our glass works so we've got to arrange for them to return another day. But because the glass left behind is obstructing some walls in the toilet, our chemical wash and installation of accessories will be pushed back another week instead. Kitchen's Kompacplus countertop in Boston Cherry. Featuring the large Monic sink which is a family favourite. My parents' and sister's homes both use it as well! Our contractor was shocked by the dimensions when we first told him about it. He said we can easily do home catering with a sink this size.. haha. And New York Teak for the bathroom vanity. Last minute decision to stick to Kompacplus instead of Quartz or solid surface.. Couldn't find a colour which perfectly matches the laminate so we chose this one to match the flooring instead. This sink is a monster too! Didn't realize this till it sat on the vanity and left only a small bit of the countertop visible

Hehe let us know when you do! Have you got the keys to your place already? Think mine is the lower end model, cheap cheap. Haha. Actually $300++ is worthwhile for a fan with light! Since bought already, just sit back and enjoy the breeze in your cozy home! Similar case for my oven, after buying then I realized I've received lower quotes from other suppliers. Busy till become blur alr

Hi you both! Have PMed you his contact details I got the fan from Everjoint Electrical Trading at Ang Mo Kio, it's the Fanco FFM7000. For this price, it's without light kit and has no remote control. Managed to source for a slightly lower price on Carousell but the seller didn't have ready stocks in the colour I want. You all can still hunt around for a better price I think!

Np! The Fanco was purchased in SG. Tried checking, but it seems this model is only available locally and not Msia. I got it for only $129! Can try narrowing down your options based on whether a light kit is needed, and you can also go down to shops to get a feel of how windy the fans are (but we didn't do this cause too busy). Living room is more impt to us so we got something better as opposed to the other rooms where we bought off taobao not knowing whether or not the fans were good. Haha. Hope this helps a little!

Hehe yes, finally~ Thank you! Quite happy with what we see so far. Didn't check properly but so far it seems there aren't any major issues/defects. Keeping the space bright and white so it serves as a plain canvas for whatever furniture we decide to put in. Hello there! We got the 42" fan. It is quite petite for our room! Have tested it, light is good and bright. Wind not super duper strong but maybe cause the size is rather small, plus we are comparing the wind effect with our living fan which is crazy windy. Most likely we'll have it on highest speed setting when using but the good thing is that it's quite silent (in my opinion) and the fan is not wobbly at all. Still a worthwhile buy considering that fans with light kits in sg don't come cheap. The 11/11 promo price still on now is $10++ cheaper than when I got it. Maybe you can compare the prices with those from Msia and decide where would be a better place/country to purchase your fan from But of course, the TB ones don't have warranty lah

Our First Reno Journey
kingandbin replied to osiris7777's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat - HDB BTO Interior Design and Renovation
Whoa, things are looking great so far. The wood laminate used in your kitchen is really nice and I how sparkly the granite top looks even in photos! You and your wife have got a good eye for colours! Feeling bummed that I didn't think about jazzing up the DB box/area like how you did. Super functional! Do you happen to have pics of what the inside looks like? -
Thanks @pankponk for the vote of confidence! Can't wait for the debris to be cleared out so that furnishings can start coming in! Yup, I think might be because we requested for led lights strips on the underside of our cabinets. So the carpentry has to be in before the electricians can install these lightings. For us, sanitary will be the final portion before they do up our PD door then handover already~ Hahah I'm sure your contractor/ID's sequence of works is based on their own well-versed experience. Don't worry too much! All will be well in the end

LET THERE BE LIGHT! The electricians came over today for lights and fan installations! Here's what our living room's area looks like now. Shoutout to @ricepapergirl, the Fanco fan you recommended is fabulous! Super windy. We love it! The track lights in front of the window will be illuminating our dining area. Decided not to have hanging/pendant lights for our dining area as we wanted the space to be flexible if we decided to rearrange furniture. The ceiling looks slightly busy w/ the three rows of track lights and fan, but this configuration best suits our need for flexibility Kitchen with TB wall fan and ceiling light. Love how the fan matches with the silver accents in the kitchen. We were soooo close to getting a Vento Fino for the kitchen (after our mum raised concerns that this fan we bought might not work, because #taobao). But the Vento Fino was OOS the day we wanted to go into JB to purchase it. Glad that this fan fits in well too! Whether or not it functions well... it's for us to find out another day. Haha. Walkway with warm track lights. Study room ceiling fan Spare/dressing room's ceiling fan - same as the study room's but in white. both from tb! MBR Entryway MBR Pendant Lights from IKEA. The length/positioning looks slightly awkward as we didn't expect the lanterns to hang so low (they are huge!) when dangling from the ceiling. Might have to play with the wires abit more. Master bathroom lamp with clear LED bulb Common toilet's 3-tone light. This is in warm white setting. Service yard's windows were up the last time we visited as well, just that we didn't manage to get a photo then! Overlooking the inner facade of the building thus there isn't much natural light or sun. That's all for today! Now back to Taobao for the super 11/11 sale. Heehee~

Hehehe thank you!! your toilets look wonderful already. your floor tiles are the textured kind right? looks nice too! Yessss her home was what inspired me to switch to a warmer-looking colour palette for the flooring! So cozy and love how her place is made to accommodate messiness. Haha. #dayrehomes is my guilty pleasure now. Can't stop stalking gathering inspiration

CARPENTRY I was overseas on a beach holiday when Contractor E sent some pics of our master bathroom carpentry. The hubs who was in sg, trooped over to our place after work that very day and sent me updates of the kitchen. Couldn't wait for the trip to end (strangely amazing feeling actually - having something to look forward to after a holiday ) so I could see everything in person! Went down today morning armed with a camera and much excitement~ Here's what our kitchen looks like now, pending sink/tap/hob/countertop: With condiment rack and pull out drawers on the left and right of the oven respectively. It turns out the condiment rack we bought was supposed to be attached to a cabinet drawer front to be pulled out as it only is reinforced at the back and not in front. But our contractor and carpenter managed to work something out for us so that it fits nicely in the cabinet Dry side of kitchen with IKEA top. The topmost drawer is customized to fit an IKEA cutlery tray. Our TB ventilation fans are installed on new casement windows for both toilets! MBR Bathroom mirror cabinet + floating vanity. The laminates for both are the same but the lighting makes them look dissimilar Bonus photo of the MBR's current bare state. Stuff on the ground are lights waiting to be fixed this Friday. Didn't have the time to scrutinize the carpentry for defects as we could only drop by for half an hour this morning. Will be spending more time in the daylight at the end of this week to check the work more carefully. Also looking forward to the installation of lights as the house is rather dim in some spots in natural light. This includes the kitchen, which has no direct sunlight despite our unit being on a mid-high level, since our service yard overlooks the inner part of our block. Hopefully having more lights means the space can look cheery even in the day! This also why we opted for an all-white kitchen

WHATahome!
kingandbin replied to pipsqueak's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat - HDB BTO Interior Design and Renovation
You're back! I actually squealed out loud upon seeing the pics of your furnished home. #soembarrasing Anyway, love how cozy the place looks! And I like how the cabbage cushion just nonchalantly sits on the couch amongst the other cushions haha. Where's the pretty pink/marble cushion cover from? Sorry to hear about your experience with the furniture company hope you'll be able to recover the sum, somehow! And thanks! My reno has been taking a long time to progress. It'll be done hopefully end of this month so the excitement is building up again- 118 replies

Our First Reno Journey
kingandbin replied to osiris7777's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat - HDB BTO Interior Design and Renovation
Hi-5, same here! Planning on travelling in to the same store to get fans. Hurray for substantial savings! -
Thanks! Now still super bare and we're just waiting for carpentry to come in before they can wash the place and do the subsequent layers of painting. According to my contractor's timeline, that's still another 3 weeks to go. Patience is key Your place was done up in a jiffy! Envious! Saw that your bathroom vanity is up already! I'm sure the new basin will look nice resting on it (: Search for themerrymaker on dayre! She has quite a few posts regarding her home and I really really love how cozy it is. Can start with these: https://dayre.me/themerrymaker/Y5mJ2UhE4p https://dayre.me/themerrymaker/JHM5jVy7aw Yes so gorgeous! But we didn't spot those when tile shopping too. The marble-look tiles that we did see were quite costly. Marble (inspired) stuff is not cheap!

Thanks! Hope that it turns out well! Can't wait for everything to do complete so we can start on the soft furnishings. The wait is nothing short of torturous The master bathroom vanity is a last minute add on! We wanted to keep the hdb sinks but my contractor asked if we wanted to adjust the mbr sink higher since it had to be removed for overlaying of floor. But it isn't possible to adjust the height for pedestal sinks and we didn't like how the sink looked without the pedestal piece. So we bit the bullet and decided to spruce up this spot! Don't worry, I'm sure your bathroom looks great too. The hdb sinks are pretty decent looking! No vanity means less upkeep needed haha. Can still prettify the toilet with good looking accessories!

PAINT COLOURS UPDATE Wanted to keep our place light and airy, so we picked white for most walls, ceilings and door frame. The living room wall which will have our tv console is painted a very light grey (Nippon's Ash Grey). The grey is so light that one probably won't realize that it's not white until you compare the wall with the ceiling. Haha. This is only one layer of paint so maybe the colour will look a tad more obvious when done. Ash Grey for our main MBR wall too. Grey Knight for the indent in our study room. Really like how the colour turned out! A nice grey-toned blue. And here's the 2D for our MBR toilet carpentry.

SINK + TOILET BOWL PURCHASE Happy Saturday guys! There's a bit of lull in my reno progress as we are waiting for the carpentry to be fabricated. My contractor says typical lead time is 3 weeks and we currently have about 1.5 weeks' more of waiting to go! Unlike others, our reno is inching bit by bit because the built in appliances for kitchen weren't on standby early. #banbandan #slowlywait. So folks, if you are impatient or in a hurry to move in, please please prepare everything in advance!! Or maybe start purchasing them once you start picking tiles for your home~ In the meantime (and cause I'm feeling bored today hehe) shall share abit about our purchase of the sink and toilet bowl/wc for our master bathroom! Here goes: As the husband is quite particular about the comfort of the wc, we decided to purchase the same model as the one currently being used in his parents' home. After matching the real deal with pictures found online, we concluded that it's the Treo One-Piece Toilet Bowl 280. Thankfully, this particular model is not expensive Another option considered was the popular baron w888. I really like how it looks (so round and cute!) + the rounded sides probably makes it easy to clean. But the price is about twice of the Treo's, and we were feeling abit lazy to hunt it down to give a butt-test so I gave it up. We found the lowest price for the Treo wc online at https://biglobang.com/. However, instead of ordering from the site right away, we decided to pay a visit to their showroom at Toa Payoh to look see + check out their range of sinks. In the end, we bought the Treo One-Piece 280 for $188 (excl GST). As the distance between the piping on the ground to the toilet wall is fixed, It's a good idea to check with your contractor and the supplier if the dimensions for your preferred wc is suitable for your bathroom. Contractor E had already informed us of the distance of the pipe from the wall so we bought an offset connector for it. As for our bathroom vanity/sink, here's some backstory about it: We were inspired by this bathroom found on Dayre - floating shelves with marble top. So pretty!! E initially said that it's not possible have a floating vanity because the shelves won't be able to hold the weight of the sink. If a countertop sink is used (as with most bathroom vanities), strong brackets will have to be installed under the shelf. And even so, he can't guarantee that it'd be sturdy. Plus for BTO toilets it might not be possible to construct the floating shelves using cement. We were prepared to give up on it already But a few days later, he came up with the idea to use a wall mount sink and just have the shelf attached underneath. YAY!!!!! We didn't pick a white glass top or marble-look top in the end, but the countertop will still be white so I'm looking forward to see how it turns out! So yeah, we bought a rectangular wall-mount sink (Treo CB065) @ $65 excl GST. * * * * This week, painting works are under way We had a chance to check the progress during the night when a buyer came to pick up our hdb toilet bowl (Managed to sell it off within 1 day of posting on Carousell! Mega thanks @karagiselle for sharing how you did it!!). Will drop by again later to see how the colours look in proper day light. Update again soon!

How's everything! Is the paint looking better after a few more coats? Your ID really starts work super early haha. Did you all seal up the master toilet wc with newspaper and masking tape? I've heard of workers who secretly open up the sealed wc to use, then denied it! There there, don't be upset liao~ At least the journey is ending! Can enjoy your home very very soon Same, considering to DIY curtains for certain rooms. Now still busy, will think about this at a later stage. Haven't really done proper research for the racks too! Actually those with bolts or boltless don't seem much different to me I Might go for ikea's wooden racks or something more aesthetically pleasing (than the regular racks) in the end. Haha
