was at loggerheads with my ID over the installation of the water heaters. whatever happened to 'customer is king'? think i've been toooo nice to him liao. anyways, rgding the installation of the water heaters, i noticed that the ones at my parents' house has a small box along the wiring leading to the heater. don't know the name or function, possibly to prevent short circuiting? is it necc. to install the thingymajiggy?

oh i see. then like that i think the only possible solution is to rent their banquet hall, and bring in your own caterer. possible? not sure. but you can always try.
-
really ah? you have to pay the equivalent of 11 pax if u only have 1 muslim guest? gosh. then like that, don't invite better right? i mean, if it's a close friend, surely they will understand the economies of scale, and if it's not someone close, don't invite won't rugi

yah. make up can melt. i guess thats y its ok for malay weddings, coz ppl just eat and go.

got some CCs with AC. tampines west, for instance. but it is on the second floor, serviced only by one lift and a narrow staircase. so not very good for catering and serving by course. attended a mother's day dinner there this yr, so poor thing the caterers.

i chose not to do the fridge base because my current kitchen layout will allow me to upgrade to a bigger fridge without space constraints. now i'm just using the little plastic brick feet.

i think all hotels can accomodate halal table. but they might impose a minimum of one table, and from what i've seen so far, they will either cater from outside or get from their 'halal' kitchen. and then CC hor, actually can be very nice leh. just find a nice decorator. but not all CCs are created equal, there are some that are better than others in terms of layout, AC, maintenance and size.

don't make her kan cheong leh. if all else fails, there is always (1) void deck (2) CC (3) Legends..

LL yes im muslim. heehee. raffles the plaza bridal suite also nice, with poster bed. but the hotel is only 30 storeys? actually i think the trend these days is not to hv a muslim table, but to let ur muslim guests sit at the other tables and serve ala carte dishes becoz some ppl prefer to sit with ppl they know. honestly its not v fun, hv to eat v slowly but end up staring at the non-halal servngs anyway. also, dont ppl book their wedding dinner a yr in advance?
-
oh yah when my uncle had his reception at raffles the plaza we had a halal table...and the food looks typically chinese wedding type, by courses and stuff like the cold dish platter, chicken, scallops etc. a friend did hers at conrad and they served by plate for the non-muslims. a bit sian, we only had 4 courses while the non-muslims had like 7?

we allowed the seller, or rather, the seller's tenants to stay a few more days after completion. it was a very messy, long drawn out affair but basically they asked for two weeks to look for a new place. because i needed to start my renovations ASAP, i told them that yeah they could stay, but my contractors are going to come in and start hacking the place. if you can put up with it, so be it. they lasted about three days before calling it quits. in their own words "the place is so dusty and dirty, humans cannot stay here!". plus there were no lights. it's amazing they lasted that long to begin with. when they left, they just left a lot of rubbish behind, which was very inconsiderate but i was too tired to argue anymore.

my parents have this beautiful marble floor. we don't maintain it very well, only been polished twice in the 20 years but it still looks good. best of all it's reallllllyyyyyyyyyy cooling on those hot days. no need AC, just sprawl out on the floor and go aaahhhh.
-
are you looking for halal certification? serving typical chinese wedding dinner food? i think you'll be hardpressed to find either...hard for a hotel to get a cert becoz of liquor, and what halal restaurants i know at hotels don't serve chinese cuisine.
-
if you are not in a rush to get ur place i think u can delay the 2nd appt but only for a few weeks? bcoz the process has an 'expiry date', after which u hv to repeat the whole process. and even before my 2nd appt there was already a deduction from my cpf acc for the place. i believe letting the seller stay after completion is a pvt arrangement b/w seller and buyer. buyer takes quite a risk here becoz u dont know what the seller might do to that flat (no longer theirs, so they heck care) and make sure not to terminate the utilities yet. also, as i mentioned above, you hv already started paying for the flat.

Homo Tiles - Front Kerb - Need To Drill This Hole?
gumbokins replied to mint's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
we didnt bother with drilling the holes too altho the prev owner did and it was quite badly done. there really isnt a need to secure both top and bottom latches. -
lakmy: yuurrp unimax using dulux..but he told me cannot choose light and space only. i'll pm u abt the painting thing!! kitty: i always thot re-painting the hse is up to you. my parents last painted their plc abt 7 yrs ago and it still looks alrite, just a bit dirty. perhaps i'm not the best person to ask when it comes to choosing paint colours..coz i look at the colour rather than type of paint and maintenance lol. no foresight. hee hee.

do you forsee needing wash and wear paint? like a child with artistic tendencies? or if there is a colour you really really want; cheaper to upgrade then to repaint again a couple of years down the road.

Supreme Laminated Flooring
gumbokins replied to gumbokins's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
i asked my ID about it...and i've had a busy day today so i really can't remember his response, but he says that the floor is still under lifetime warranty with supreme but have to go through his firm first. right. ok. now his firm only gives 8 yrs warranty. what happens 10-15 yrs from now? looks like i'm going to have to retain the invoices for a long time to come. -
i asked my ID twice..are you sure that you want the lights installed before painting? wait dirty how? but he is very confident about his painters' ability..oklor..if dirty u clean lor. thought i would make the job easier for you, but if you insist...

Supreme Laminated Flooring
gumbokins replied to gumbokins's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
so i got pirated laminates ah? at my ID's place he showed us the supreme catalogue..only 12 colours..but when i browsed through the supreme website, didn't see the colour we chose there. i can't remember if the quotation specified the brand of laminates. but i was charged $3000+ to overlay my living + dining area, which really isnt all that big (4 rm resale). if the pirated one is cheaper, then win already lor. -
my ID just finished my living room floor. i hv such a bad memory when it comes to colours; i don't even remember choosing the colour but hubby say it's the correct one. ok lor. doesn't look too bad. anyways, the ID said they are using supreme. offered me another brand (local), can't remember the name but i never hear before so didn't want to take. so today we went to the flat after they completed...saw the boxes of laminates. but no SUPREME stamped on it. in fact, the boxes had a picture of a teddy bear, and the word EXQUSITE on the side. anybody see before? is it really a SUPREME product or is my ID trying to pull a fast one on us?
