Installing Instant Water Heaters
gumbokins replied to gumbokins's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
his plumber was supposed to install the water heater, but the wiring was done by my electrician. so i thought that ok, my electrician has run the wires into the toilets, now all his plumber has to do is to install the heaters. when i SMS-ed him to do it, he told me that he can't because my electrician did not install whatever that small little box thingamajig is and started blaming them for doing a shoddy job bla bla bla. what made me really unhappy was he never mentioned anything about the thingamajig to me, and suka-suka just shift the blame on the electrician and basically used that as an excuse to delay the work. anyways, i wanted to know if that thingamajig is neccessary and what it was for. because of this i 'cold war' with my ID. -

for a floor that is supposed to be long-lasting, there are a lot of 'don't's. i hv laminated floors in my whole house actually, apart from the toilets and kitchen. no hope liao. hahaha. but i shall get one of them mats to put outside the door to catch all that excess dirt and grime and sand. -
i tot iron makes u constipated leh?

the plumber came yesterday, the cistern fills up pretty quickly, and it's already up at the max level so i can only say it's my diet *ahem ahem* and that i have a small W.C. it's supposed to be a water saving type, but in the end we use even more water to flush.

ok i'm just a little less noob then you, but here is my 2 sen worth 1) asking for quote should be no obligations. but they will 'pressure' you into putting a deposit. and at this stage, everything is very rosy and everything is "can! can do! Yes! No problem! We can do this...Very Cheap! Confirm!". the story will be very different afterwards. the deposit may or may not be refundable. when i met my ID at the expo, he agreed to make the $200 deposit i put down as refundable. In the end we still went with him because I was too pregnant to find another one. if you are not sure, don't. Can always come back another day. as for the 3D drawing, i don't know why everyone loves them so much, but from what i've gathered, no it's not free. 2) initially i thought by getting an ID, he can do all the coordinating and running around for me, as well as on-site inspections while giving me 'valuable' advice but this is not so. also, if your ID is like mine, everything (lights, electrician, A/C) also get from his lobang otherwise he will pull face long-long and claim that what you got is sub-standard etc 3) can't say on this because mine is 4 rm. but my ID charged about 7K to re-do both toilets with standard fixtures. 4) no blog, i see everybody's pix here so nice, see my lousy house, feel so inferior complex. but spent 25K on the renovations.

Installing Instant Water Heaters

hihi lakmy YES tell ur hubby to go hard on him!! my works is about 90% completed, just some touch ups and final things to do. but we still have 50% of the payment so if he want to 'absent' himself, then oklor. *shrugs* fingers crossed that everything else goes fine for you! -
no brand. in the quotation is listed as 'supply and install branded dual-flush WC' or something. but definitely some china type, because the toilet seat is known as the 'butt plate'.
-
well, maybe i should just change my diet and eat more fibre so my stools would be softer but i think my flush is really not powerful enough. not much goes down...is it due to the toilet design/type or water pressure?

i saw a cleaner for laminated floor at Giant..starts with an 'S'..bought it but havent gotten round to using it. you can mop with some water, but not soak the floor and leave puddles. and besides, the laminated floor should come with some form of water protective surface. -
O$p$!
gumbokins replied to gumbokins's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
u can just write RETURN TO SENDER and put inside the postbox or now at the hdb letterboxes there is one unit for returned mail, usually in the far corner and put it there. not throw, throwing mail is a crime i did that and the letters for the ex-owners have pretty much stopped coming. i mean, if the previous tenants know that there are still getting mail at the old address and don't do anything abt it, it's their business. don't have to worry abt other people's problems. premature aging you know? -
O$p$!
gumbokins replied to gumbokins's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
actually, truth be told, i really couldnt be bothered about the O$P$. some lame grafitti marker on the lift door is, like, whatever. i don't care what my neighbours think because they should mind their own biz and also the ones in my immediate vicinity should know that i've only just moved in. the loanshark called my husband again last night to ask for the forwarding address of the ex-owner...he then told my husband he was in 'deep ****', but husband said the way he spoke to him over the phone was as if they were best buds. anyways we decided to drop by the police post..change address on our ICs and at the same time just lodge a report, in case 'Badu' (the loanshark) decided to get funny with us or our neighbours. spent close to two hours there, because there was only one guy on duty and he was loding reports and answering the phone at the same time! got some woman who called in to complain about getting more patrol presence in her neighbourhood, but yet refused to give her name or address. wins liao. i get lots of mail from all sorts of companies and organizations, all labelled PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL or URGENT for the ex-owner. just dump them into the 'FOR RETURNED MAIL ONLY' box at the letterbox there. see how this plays out. hope the fwding address is legit, or Badu might come after us again. *sharpens claws* -

How To Tell If An Existing Hdb Flat Main Door Is A Fire-rated Door
gumbokins replied to aeioulim's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
i'm not sure abt this but my neighbour was changing his gates and he mntioned that the fire rated door has a sticker on the hinge side cerifying it as a fire-rated door. and that they're really heavy too and fixed with the 'thingy' that makes sure the door is closed unless u secure it to the wall with an industrial strength hook. also, i think hdb's policy when the first introduced the doors is they were installed in corner units only. -
well maybe ur boss is so used to being around the msian malays who don't really care..that's why he thinks all the other muslims are like that? my husband's collegues are like that, they were quite surprised to see that he prays and eat halal food becoz they say their supposedly muslim friends back home dont.
-
yah it was in the news tonight! NTUC made police report when a pack of airpork somehow ended up with a MUIS halal sticker on it.
-
DH = dear husband even pork gets labelled as halal at NTUC, tsk yah bengawan solo uses rum in their baked goodies..but not all i think. i've bought cakes from bengawan solo too. and i've eaten at rice table..tendency is to assume that indonesian restaurants are halal, even if they are not certified by MUIS.
-
i was just thinking...do we really need a Halal cert from MUIS to say the food is halal? then what about the malay stalls selling nasi lemak and mee rebus at the coffeeshop? they don't have halal certs..but we know the food is halal because of the makcik preparing and selling it. i met one ustadz whose stance on food from hotels etc was basically 'ignorance is bliss'.
-
well they say frog tastes just like chicken..lol LL, god bless. my dh is a convert too, but he was already a muslim before marriage. it's good that you're making such an effort to eat halal food, even though it has not been easy finding a place for your wedding
