A very low class food but evolved to be such a high class and auspicious food for CNY, offering at ancestors alta and all sorts of gathering. Reminds me of 聚寶盆 and even a pail collecting all the dinner remnants. With SG weather, it is very easy for the food to become 'chow sng' because the food is immediately layered after cooking and there is not enough space to breathe. Just my two cents. https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%9B%86%E8%8F%9C https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poon_choi http://baike.baidu.com/view/182403.htm

Kitchen Back Splash - Stainless Steel, T-Glass Or Mosaic Tiles?
PrettyUgly replied to AhTeo's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
. Back splash tiles behind gas hob done more than 15 years ago. This is a typical kitchen used by grannies for all sorts of cooking plus weekend dinner for children and grandchildren. Cleaning was done by grandpapa; domestic helper took over five years ago. Indeed the grease trapped at the edges were difficult to get rid of. The grout lines seems acceptable after 1.5 decades. . -
I have lived in Hong Kong for few years. The gas heater is a standard pre-installattion by the developer. These days most people are saying gas is more expensive than electricity and now a migration to electric heaters. During the most humid months after CNY to September, many homes rely on air conditioners and dehumidifier. A dehumidifier can help in drying up the clothes as well though it is not created for this purpose. Any heating systems are time and space consuming, and will cause damage to fabrics such as socks and elastic part of any garments. .

Kitchen Back Splash - Stainless Steel, T-Glass Or Mosaic Tiles?
PrettyUgly replied to AhTeo's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
Glass backsplash is chic but unless you like to do cleaning, you need to wipe it squeaky clean even after steaming something let alone stir frying or deep frying. The steam will carry the oil and stain the glass (or even stainless steel). Just imagine how the oil will splash every after frying a plate of green vegetables, fish or a piece of steak. If you notice how dirty glass wall screens and windows or even big mirrors, you will know what I mean. Super for aesthetic reason, but cleaning is a pain. . -
. I did not visit all the areas known for buying lightings. Yuki and one of the oppas in Heritage are not pushy. I do not expect to be served like queen whenever I am in a shop of this nature. I do find them very helpful and friendly. Tried almost each and every light. They were not annoyed at all. Finally, bought all my lightings in this shop for my 5R HDB flat. Bargained like seow. Got what I wanted - 10 pcs altogether plus kitchen and bathroom stainless steel accessories. A big round enclosed ceiling light that looked so huge in the shop display actually fits very nicely in the living area. All LED lights with drivers; one with remote control; four of them are RGB lights - can change colors by pressing the switch again and again. The Philips ones (two shops away) cost more $$$ and are not as bright as those in this shop. I became very conscious with the lightings whenever I was on the upper deck of buses. Most of the flats (HDB and private) are buying those cheapy cheap $50 lights for their living / dining areas which are sooooo dim and a waste of electricity. I do recommend this place if you need one more shop to compare prices. They only started having lightings since September. It is just next door to the bathroom gallery. They could arrange electrician for the installation if you do not already have one. One of the cover for the ceiling lights installed was rejected by me but the electrician arranged the exchange and delivered to my place again. Normally, they would expect you to carry the cover all the way to the shop to have it exchanged. The electrician's timing is very elastic. Whatever time they fix with you give them another 2-3 hours before they appear with the goods, tools and their services.
